Of 375 newborn infants in Korea General Hospital in the period of 6 months from March 1 to August 30, 1976. 304 newborn infants were available for the study of serum bilirubin level at the third day of the birth. The followings are results analyzed: 1) The mean value of serum bilirubin level estimated is 10.6mg%. The incidence of neonatal jaundice is estimated as 95.4 percent. 2) The premature infants reveal a marked elevation of serum bilirubin level. Conditions with increased level of serum bilirubin in variable degree include vacuum suction and/or forcep delivery, high or low hematocrit value, low Apgar scores, artificial resuscitation, cephalhematoma and spontaneous premature rupture of the membrance. 3) No relationship in serum bilirubin levels between differences in sex, body weight, number of pregnacies and ABO blood groups of mother and infant is present in this study.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1981;24(5):423-429
We observed 32 cases of viral hepatitis who were admitted to to pediatric ward of Korea General Hospital for 1 year from Oct. 1979 to Sept. 1980 and the following results are obtained. 1) Eight among 32 eases of viral hepatitis are positive for HBsAg in their serum samples tested by solid phase radioimmunoassay. 2) High ESR is found in 69.6% of cases with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis ESR within normal limit is 87.5% of cases. 3) Values for GPT are higher than those of GOT in 70.8% of patients with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis GOT higher than GPT are 87.5% of cases. 4) Elevated levels of TTT are observed in 83.4% of patients with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis TTT within normal limit is 75.0% of casses. We may conclude that ESR, SGOT, SGPT and TTT can be a very useful additional test as a diagnostic aid in the differentiation of the two types of viral hepatitis, when tested early in the disease.

Langerhans' Cell Histiocytosis(LCH) is a disease of unknown origin, characterized by abnormal proliferation of Langerhans' cells. Previously, it has been called histiocytosis X, which included eosinophilic granuloma, Hand-Sch ller-Christian's disease, and Letterer-Siwe disease. Any organs or tissues such as skin, lymph nodes, bone and bone marrow can be involved. However, LCH of chest wall is rarely reported in our country. We experienced a 18 month old male child, who had osteolytic lesion involving the rib with axillary lymph node metastasis. The tumor was confirmed as LCH after surgery.
