2.Child raising and education of marriage-based immigrants in Korea: On the focus of infants.
Korean Journal of Pediatrics 2009;52(4):403-409
Due to recent upsurge in international marriages, the socio-cultural adaptation, the reinforcement of family stability, and the social integration support of marriage-based immigrant family have been the major social issues. This paper tries to show the current status of marriage-based immigrants and their children nation-wide. Specifically, it analyzes the statistical trends in international marriages, traits of marriage-based immigrants and their children, their attitudes towards child raising and education, and presents policy measures to enhance their life quality.

Korean Journal of Dental Materials 2020;47(4):193-202
The purpose of the present study was to assess the temperature change and compressive property of bulk-fill composites (BFCs) by the light curing. Seven resin-based composites (RBCs), including five BFCs, were chosen to evaluate their maximum temperature rise and exothermic heat during and after light curing and compressive strength (CS) and modulus (CM) for 4-mm thick state. Light attenuation coefficients (ACs) showed reasonably high correlation with filler content (vol% and wt%).Except one resin product, AC values of BFCs were lower than those of RBCs tested. All the tested specimens showed temperature rise (9.8-23.6℃) and exothermic heat (4.2-18.3℃) for 4-mm thick case. CS and CM values of the tested specimens ranged approximately 69 to 116 MPa and 1.3 to 2.8 GPa, respectively. The difference of temperature changes and compressive properties (CS and CM) between BFCs and RBCs was not consistent and had no statistically consistent significance.

Korean Journal of Dental Materials 2018;45(3):179-186
The aim of this study was to determine if a 457 nm blue laser could effectively polymerize dental composite resins. After light curing 6 dental composite resins using a laser or a LED light-curing unit at 530 mW/cm2 and 900 mW/cm2, respectively, degree of conversion and microhardness were evaluated. Degree of conversion of specimens by the laser and LED was similar (on top surface 54.4–67.7% and 55.2–67.1%, respectively; on bottom surface 35.1–53.8% and 45.4–53.1%, respectively). Microhardness was also similar (on top surface 28.5–83.6 Hv and 19.1–82.4 Hv, respectively; on bottom surface 22.5–65.4 Hv and 16.8–74.4 Hv, respectively), although, in some cases, laser-treated specimens showed slightly lower microhardness than the LED-treated on bottom surface. The present study shows that the 457 nm laser can polymerize dental composite resins to the same level as LED achieved.

Journal of Rhinology 2012;19(2):131-134
Juvenile nasophayngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a histologically benign but highly vascular, agressively expansile lesion that occurs exclusively in prepubescent or pubescent males. Traditional treatmemt strategy of JNA has included open surgical approaches for majority of tumors. However, radiosurgery has been rarely applied for juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) and cumulative reports are lacking. The authors report a case of successful treatment of postoperative residual JNA with gamma knife radiosurgery.

International Journal of Arrhythmia 2018;19(1):33-35
Inappropriate shocks from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) can cause potentially dangerous ventricular arrhythmias and impaired quality of life. We describe a case in which a dislodged lead caused inappropriate ICD shocks through simultaneous sensing of atrial and ventricular signals. Interestingly, repeated short-long R-R sequences were recorded, but ICD interrogation parameters were usually unchanged.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1998;16(4):597-600
BACKGROUND: Spinal stroke is unusual, accounting for 1% of all cases of stroke in general hospital. The clinical features of anterior spinal artery syndromes due to Adamkiewicz artery obstruction are dissociative sensory disturbances, motor weakness, and autonomic dysfunctions. There have been several reports of using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in ischemic spinal cord infarctions. However, angiographic and MRI finding of the obstruction of Adamkiewicz artery has never been reported in Korea. CASE: A previously healthy 60-year-old woman presented an acute onset of paralysis of both lower limbs. On admission she showed paralysis and anesthesia of both lower limbs, and loss of bladder function. Routine hematological and CSF studies revealed no abnormalities. MRI disclosed T11-L2 level spinal cord infarction on T1- and T2-weighted images. Posterior tibial somatosensory evoked potential study revealed prolongation of cortical waves. Spinal angiographic findings were compatible with spinal cord infarction due to the obstruction of Adamkiewicz artery. COMMENT: To our knowledge, this is believed to be the first case of spinal stroke due to the obstruction of Adamkiewicz artery confirmed both by MRI and by angiography in Korean literature.

A right atrial and inferior vena caval thrombus in a structurally normal heart is a very rare condition. We report a case of such a thrombus in a 66-year-old woman. She was admitted to our hospital with recent onset dyspnea. Based on echocardiography, we suspected that she had myxoma. We performed an excision of a mass, which was found, by pathologic examination, to be an organized mural thrombus.
