The purpose of this study was to compare surface roughness and bone formation around two types of threaded commercially pure titanium implants manufactured by two different companies. The test implants were manufactured by Sumin synthesis dental materials Co. (Avana, Busan, Korea), while the controls were manufactured by Nobel Biocare (MK II, Goteborg, Sweden). To compare bone formation adjacent to newly product with Branemark MK II implant, surface roughness was measured by Accurate 1500M and histomorphometric analysis was done. The results were as follows : 1. Measurement of surface roughness showed that Avana implant had a slightly more irregular surface compared with Branemark implant. 2. In the light microscopic studies, no infiltration of inflammatory cells nor the giant cells wee observed on both groups. 3. In th light and fluorescent microscopic studies, the amount of osseointegration and the extent and the timing of bone formation were similar. 4. There were no statistically difference between two groups in the average bone to implant contacts. Branemark implant ; 67%(SC 23%), Avana implant ; 70%(SD 16%). Comparing with Branemark implant, Avana implant made of CP grade II titanium showed similar good bone healing, formation and osseointegration.

Korean Journal of Hematology 1999;34(3):436-444
BACKGROUND: The K562 erythroleukemia cell line was used to study the molecular mechanisms regulating lineage commitment of hematopoietic cells. There are numerous similarities between the erythroid or megakaryocytic lineages. In this study, we examined role of the region -269~-240 of gamma-globin gene promoter in fetal hemoglobin expression during either erythroid or megakaryocytic differentiation. METHODS: K562 cells were cultured and treated with differentiation inducers. Hemoglobin content was scored by benzidine staining, and hemoglobin F was stained by acid elution technique. To determine whether transcription factor binding to the gamma-globin gene promoter is critical to lineage determination, DNA-protein interaction of gamma-globin gene promoter was examined under both uninduced and induced conditions of K562 cells using gel mobility shift assay and southwestern blot analysis. RESULTS: Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) induced a megakaryocytic differentiation, but suppressed erythroid differentiation. On the other hand, hydroxyurea (HU), hemin, n-butanol, and sodium butyrate (NaB) induced the expression of erythroid phenotypes. Parallel to hemoglobinization, increase in gamma-globin mRNA was observed in HU- and hemin-treated K562 cells. Gel mobility shift assay and southwestern blot analysis revealed that binding of a erythroid-specific protein (p120) to the region -269~-240 of gamma-globin gene promoter occurred with treatment of erythroid differentiation inducers and did not occur with treatment of PMA. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that erythroid differentiation inducers may act via DNA- protein interaction at the gamma-globin gene promoter region to induce erythroid differentiation.

5.PERIOTESTa ASSESSMENT OF DENTAL IMPLANT MOBILITY: A CLINCAL STUDY.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1998;36(5):758-771
Assessment of implant mobility is an important and reliable method to clinically evaluate implant stability. PerioTest is a precise and reproducible device that cam dynamically measure the reaction of damping characteristics of peri-implant tissue. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of amount of implant surface area, diameter, type, implantation site, degrees of cortical engagement, and length of time in function on PTVs and to find out the most determining factor on PTVs. The results are as follows 1. 5.0mm diameter implants show significantly lower PTV than that of 3.75mm diameter implants. 2. PTV in the mandible is significantly lower than that of the maxilla 3. In the maxilla, there is no significant difference in PTV during the first year of implant function, but during the second year a significant decrease in PTV is noted. 4. In the mandible, there is a significant decrease in PTV during the first and second year of implant function. 5. Implantation site seems to be the most determining factor on PTV among the influencing factors in this study. In conclusion, the amount of implant surface area, type, degrees of cortical engagement had no significant effect on PTV, but installation site and diameter influenced significantly on PTV

Korean Journal of Urology 1996;37(7):730-738
Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at polymorphic loci on the short arm of chromosome 3 which has multiple recurrence genes was investigated in histopathologically proven 35 sporadic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) at Dong-A University. The allelic frequencies and the rate of LOH applying a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) at five loci, D3S2 (MSPI), THRB (EcoRI), THRB (BamHI), THRB (MSPI) and D3F15S2 (Hind III) were investigated. The allelic frequencies were quite different between normal subjects and patients with RCC in Koreans. The rate of LOH was shown lower at all loci than those of Caucasians. The clear distinction in the incidence of LOH was shown between clear cell and granular cell type. LOH was not observed at THRB locus in clear cell type whereas in granular cell type, LOH could not be observed at D3Fl5S2 locus. The following conclusion was derived. The author found that one allelic gene was changed in patients with RCC because the allelic frequencies were different between normal subjects and patients with RCC. Also, the genetic characteristics in Koreans were different from Caucasians, and the detection of genetic loci specific for Koreans is important in oncogenetic studies. Lastly, Allelic analysis was compared with the histopathological findings of genetic alterations so to correlate the relationship between oncogenesis and genetic alterations. Therefore, this study suggested that different genes are involved in oncogenesis according to histopathological types.

Korean Circulation Journal 1994;24(6):910-915
Myocardial bridging is defined as segmental engulfment of a major epicardial coronary artery by myocardial fibers, causing a systolic narrowing or milking effect of the coronary arterial segment. During systole, the intramuscular part of coronary artery is compressed by contraction of overbridging ventricular muscle, therefore blood flow distal to the lesion is impaired and angina pectoris or acute myocardial infarction may occur. We experienced a case of Non-Q myocardial infarction in a 42 years-old female patient with myocardial bridge at the proximal and middle part of left anterior descending coronary artery.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1975;8(1):91-96
Eleven supine adult patients undergoing general inhalation anesthesia with halothane-nitrous oxide-oxygen and dtubocurarine were studied. In order to determine the effectiveniss of the method to estimate the minute volume by ones height and, to find the merrits of changed tidal volume under the constant minute volume, we observed the changes in PaCO2, arterial pH, base excess, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate during general anesthesia with mechanical ventilation. In this study, there were no significant changes in PaCO2, arterial pH, base excess, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate during mechanical ventilation with the changed tidal volume. Furthermore, we considered that the large tidal volume prevented miliary atelectasis and increasing A-aDO2.
