1) The effectiveness of azathioprine (Imuran) in suppressing the immunogenic rejection of corneal grafts was studied by pathology. 2) The method of conjunctival implantation was used to produce neovascularization of the host cornea and the rejection of interlamellar allgraft and xenograft (rooster to rabbit) provided the experimental model against which the therapeutic efficacy of the drug was evaluated. There is almost same pathological finding between interlamellar homograft and heterograft. but the rejection phenomena of the heterograft group is slightly severer than homograft group. 3) On comparing the graft rejection between control and treated group in homograft and heterograft, the reaction in control group is severer than treated group. Microscopically, tbe cornea of treated group is almost transparent, but there are fibrosis of graft border, thickening of the host tissues and irregular arragement of corneal lamellae, by microscopically 4) On comparing between sensitized and non-sensitized group, no specific difference was observed by microspically.

1. Alkali burns of rabbit corneas were produced by 5.0 N NaOH swabbing the cornea and surrounding sclera. 2. Collagenolytic activity of alkali burned corneas, and the effectiveness of collagenase inhibitors (0.2 M cysteine sol. and 0.5% zinc sulfate sol.) in preventing the perforation of corneas were studied by pathology. 3. In control group, almost 85% of coreas were perforated, but in treated group, no corneal perforations were found. 4. In control group, epithelial and endothelial thickenings are evident and no neovascularization could be seen, in treated group neovascularization is evident and slight cellular reactions were visualized.

Here, we report 3 cases of mixed tumor of the lacrimal gland. The age of the patients were 43, 26 and 35 respectively. The two of these were male and one female. The most outstanding complaint was exopthalmos. A mass was palpated on the orbit and eye ball deviation in downward position was present in all cases. Pathologic findings were mixed tumor of the lacrimal gland with no evidence of malignancy. These tumors were well encapsulated and any evidence of involving bone and soft tissue was not found. Modified Kroenlein-Berke operation was performed and tumor mass was removed entirely with finger dissection in all cases. The vision was not improved but the cosmetic result was satisfactorr.

There were many instances in which glaucoma, esp. primary, combined with hearing disturbance. The etiology of these cases has not been known until now. We had 15 primary glaucoma patients for whom pure tone audiometry wa~ performed, and could find the hearing defect in high tone in 5 cases (1/3 among those patients). The audiometric curve was similar to that in the presbycusis, but severer in degree than that occured within the normal physiological aging process. The average age was 62.4 year in the group with the hearing defect, and 45.6 year in the group without the hearing defect. There were no relationship between the hearing defect and intraocular tension, visual field change, glaucomatous cupping, and duration of glaucoma. These results may support the opinion of the authors that the hearing disturbance in glaucomatous patients is related to the arterioscIerotic changes which aggrevate the presbycusis, and not related to glaucoma itself. On the otherhand, however, it is stilI impossible for us to rule out that the pleiotropic and multifactorial genetic factors may play as a common important role in the hearing disturbances and glaucoma. And further studies would be necessary for these problems.

In tiis study, an expenmental model of glaucoma filtering surgery in rabblts was used to evaluate the effect of single intraoperative application of Mitomycin Full-thickness filtering surgery, posterior lip sclerectomy, was performed after application of 0.5mg/ml Mitomycin-soaked Week-Cel(TM) sponge for 5 minutes in one eye of 15 pigmented rabbits and was irrigated copiously with balanced salt solution(BSS(TM)). The same procedure was done in the contralateral eye as a control, using BSS(TM). In Mitomycin-treated group, the filtering blebs were more prominent with sparse vascular tissues and were maintained through postoperative 8 weeks or more. Histologically, there loas was amount of inflammatory reactions in Mitomycin-treated group. The fibroblastic activity and proliferations of the collagen were also suppessed markedly in Mitomycin-treated group. These results suggest that a single intraoperative application of Mitomycin can be used adjunctively to improve the success rate of glaucoma filtering surgery.

In 44 normal, 15 controlled glaucomatous and 8 uncontrolled glaucomtous eyes, the influence of body positin on the intraocular pressure was studied using Perkins applanation tonometer. The pressure increment when changing from the seated to supine positin averaged 2.7 mm Hg in normal eyes. 2.1 mmHg in controlled glaucomatous eyes and 3.7 mmHg in the uncon trolled glaucomatous eyes. Pressure increment in each group was highly significant. The increased pressure was reversible when returning to the original seated position. It appears that the clinically important pressure to be considered in the diagnosis and management is the supine pressure in addition to the seated pressure.

In korean books, letters are arranged either in horizontal lines or in vertical rows. Comparison has been made by the authors regarding the speed of reading in these arrangements. Subjects were divided into the following five groups: primary school pupil, junior and senior high school boy, College student of liberal arts, college student of natural science and middle-aged people. With the chinese letters, the speed of reading was faster when letters are arranged vertically only in high school boy. In others, the speed of reading showed no significant difference regardless of the arrangement of letters. This fact probably be due to the small number of observations and insufficient number of letters.

In 54 cases with heterophoria, the effects of the tranquilizers were studied. The minimum doses of two kinds of tranquilizers i.e., phenothiazine derivative (chlorpromazine) and benzodiazepine derivative (oxazepam) were given for 3 days. The results were as follows: 1. In 18 cases (43%) of the 30 cases who complained asthenopia, the symptom was relieved to some extent. The improvement of the symptom occurred with decrease in the Jateral phoria in 13 cases, and with increase in fusional amplitude in 13 cases. 2, There were no changes in the lateral phoria in 31 cases (59%) at distance, but at near, in 27 cases (52%) there was decrease in the lateral phoria. The amount of the increment or decrement in prism diopters was somewhat larger at near than at distance, and also somewhat larger in cases, in which the initial lateral phoria before medication is high, than in the cases with low initial lateral phoria. 3, There were no changes in the fusional amplitude in 24 cases (46%) at distance, but at near, in 28 cases (55 %) there was the increase in fusional amplitude. The changes in the amount of the increment or decrement in the fusional al1}plitude were similar to that of the changes in the amount in lateral phoria. 4, There were no remarkable changes in vertical phorias. 5. In exophoria there were no remarkable differences between subjects given chlorpromazine and those gIven oxazepam.
