1.A Case of Cirsoid Aneurysm of the Scalp.

Cirsoid aneurysm of the calp is a congenital arteriovenous malformation which is the result of abnormal connections betwe:.n the external carotid artery and scalp veins with a subsequent dilatation of vascular channels nd formation of aneurysm. We report a case of cirsoid aneurysm of the scalp on the left parieto-occipital area of 14-year-old female who had had 8 x 5 x 0.8 cm sized pulsating soft mass for 2 years. 4 vessel angiog raphy revealed a arteriovenous malformation that emerge mainly from a superficial temporal artery and occipital artery of the left external carotid artery and partially from the right superficial temporal artery and drined into the left scalp vein. The mass was removed by excision with ligation of the feeding arter es and followed up for 2 years without recurrence.

2.Effects of Internet Diabetic Education on Glycosylated Hemoglobin and Self-Care in Type 2 Diabetic Patients over One Year.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of web-based diabetic education on glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) and self-care in people with type 2 diabetes. METHOD: Twenty-five patients were requested to input the blood glucose level weekly at http://www.biodang.com by cellular phone or wired Internet for one year. The researcher sent optimal recommendations weekly to each patient using the short message service for cellular phones and wired Internet. RESULTS: Patients had a significant mean decrease in HbA1c, from 8.0% at pre-test to 6.9%, after three months and rested at 6.8% until 12 months. Patients had a significant mean increase in physical exercise adherence, from 3.3 days at pre-test to 4.1 days per week, after three months. Patients had a significant mean increase in foot care adherence, from 4.8 days at pre-test to 6.9 days per week, after one year. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that Internet education could be used to improve HbA1c, physical exercise, and foot care adherence in type 2 diabetic patients.

3.A Telephone-Delivered Intervention to Improve Glycemic Control in Type 2 Diabetic Patients.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of a telephone-delivered intervention on glycemic control and body mass index in Korean type 2 diabetic patients. 38 patients were randomly selected, with 20 assigned to a telephone group and 18 to a control group. The goal of the intervention was to keep blood glucose concentrations close to the normal range. The intervention was applied to the telephone group for 12 weeks. It consisted of continuous education and reinforcement of diet, exercise and medication adjustment, as well as frequent self-monitoring of blood glucose levels. Telephone intervention was performed twice per week for the first month, and then weekly for the second and third months. Subjects were requested to write self-management logs, including blood glucose, diet and an exercise diary. The diet diaries were analyzed by a dietitian, and subjects instructed about the results by telephone counseling or mail. All medication adjustments were communicated to the subjects' diabetes specialist. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG) and 2-hour postprandial glucose were measured before, and after, the intervention. Patients in the telephone group had a mean decrease of 1.2%, with those in the control group having a mean increase of 0.6%, in HbA1c. There were no significant differences in the body mass index (BMI) between the two groups. These findings indicated that a telephone-delivered intervention would improve HbA1c, but would not affect BMI.
