4.Relationship of Gender Role Conflict and Job Satisfaction to Turnover Intention for Men in Nursing.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2017;23(1):32-41
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between gender role conflict for men in nursing, job satisfaction, and turnover intention. METHODS: The study data were collected between August 1 and September 1, 2015 from 225 men in nursing currently working in 36 Korean general hospitals, each with ≥100 beds. Frequency and percentages were analyzed, and Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's test were used. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in gender role conflict based on the general characteristics of the men. In contrast, significant differences in gender role conflict were found in association with the following job-related characteristics: work experience at the present hospital, work department, work unit, and type of work. A significant negative correlation was detected between male gender role conflict and job satisfaction, a positive correlation was found between male gender role conflict and turnover intention. CONCLUSION: In order to increase job satisfaction and decrease the turnover intention of men in nursing, measures to reduce gender role conflict are needed.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 2020;38(4):298-300
We report a case of anterior choroidal artery territory infarction due to internal carotid artery dissection presumably caused by scuba diving. A 44-year-old man presented with left facial palsy and hemiparesis. He had a history of scuba diving for 18 months. His last dive was 7 days ago, and he skipped decompression practice at that dive. We assumed that repetitive traumas and microbubbles during scuba diving, which made endothelium vulnerable to damage may have caused a carotid dissection.
6.A Case of Spontaneous Corneal Perforation Combined with Primary Pterygium.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2017;58(6):740-744
PURPOSE: We report a case of spontaneous corneal perforation combined with primary pterygium. CASE SUMMARY: A 66-year-old male presented with a foreign body sensation in his right eye. He had no systemic or ocular inflammatory diseases. He had undergone penetrating keratoplasty following amniotic membrane transplantation for corneal perforation at 1 day after pterygium excision in his left eye. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and intraocular pressure (IOP) in his right eye were 0.8 and 2 mmHg, respectively. Active leakage of an aqueous humor on the head of the pterygium was found on slit lamp examination. With the impression of spontaneous corneal perforation combined with primary pterygium, emergent amniotic membrane transplantation was performed. Diffuse corneal thinning around the 2 mm-sized perforation site was found 3mm away from the limbus in the 5 o'clock after removing the pterygium. The perforation site was covered with amniotic membrane after applying fibrin glue. UCVA and IOP in his right eye were 1.0 and 9 mmHg, respectively, at postoperative 6 months. No definite recurrence of pterygium or additional corneal perforation was found. CONCLUSIONS: Spontaneous corneal perforation may be related to primary pterygium.

The Korean Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2004;19(2):115-120
BACKGROUND: To analyze hemodynamic changes during single catheter technique of hepatic venous isolation and extracorporeal charcoal hemoperfusion for malignant liver tumor. METHODS: Drugs for chemotherapy were infused to the liver through hepatic artery. With 4-lumen- 2-balloon (4L-2B) catheter, hepatic venous blood was circulated to the extracorporeal charcoal system. During extracorporeal charcoal system circulation, drugs were eliminated and the blood was reinfused to supra-hepatic vein-IVC. At the same time, IVC was clamped. Systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI), cardiac index (CI), stroke volume index (SVI), mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR) and arterial blood gas were measured after 4L-2B catheter insertion (T1), during test circulation (T2), after 20min chemotherapy (T3) and after 10min reperfusion (T4). RESULTS: MAP was decreased at T3 compared to T1 and increased at T4 compared to T3. CI was decreased at T3 and increased at T4 compared to T1. SVRI was decreased at T4 compared to T1. HR was increased at T2 and T3 compared to T1. SVI was decreased at T2 and T3 compared to T1. CONCLUSIONS: During clamping of IVC, MAP is decreased by decreased SVI in spite of increased HR. After IVC is released and the stagnated blood of lower extremity is recirculated, the MAP is returned to the value of after catheter insertion by increased SVI in spite of decreased SVRI.

Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 2023;37(6):453-461
Purpose:
This study aimed to investigate changes in cytokine levels after intravitreal bevacizumab injection in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).
Methods:
In a prospective interventional trial, 12 eyes from 12 patients with chronic CSC and six eyes from six patients who underwent cataract surgery were included as controls. Patients diagnosed as with CSC received a single intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (1.25 mg/0.05 mL). Aqueous humor samples were collected from the patients and controls. Best-corrected visual acuity and foveal thickness were evaluated, and aqueous samples were obtained before and 4 weeks after injection. The aqueous concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, interferon-induced protein (IP)-10, monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-AA, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were measured using a multiplex bead assay.
Results:
After injection, the foveal thickness decreased significantly from 328.08 μm (range, 210–477 μm) to 283.91 μm (range, 168–356 μm; p = 0.048), but the best-corrected visual acuity was not significantly different (p = 0.066). The aqueous levels of IL-8 increased significantly from 3.3 pg/mL (range, 1.5–8.3 pg/mL) to 4.7 pg/mL (range, 2.2–11.6 pg/mL) at 4 weeks after the injection (p = 0.046). The aqueous levels of VEGF decreased significantly from 31.4 pg/mL (range, 17.0–53.3 pg/mL) to 15.2 pg/mL (range, 7.7–21.5 pg/mL; p < 0.01). No significant changes in levels of IL-6 (p = 0.455), IP-10 (p = 0.055), MCP-1 (p = 0.076), and PDGF-AA (p = 0.339) were noted 4 weeks after injection.
Conclusions
In this study we found intravitreal bevacizumab injection decreased VEGF and increased IL-8 in the eyes of patients with chronic CSC. This study suggests the possibility that the pathogenesis of CSC may be related to abnormal circulation of the choroidal blood vessels through VEGF and IL-8 cytokine level changes.

Although some reports have been published on the protective effect of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii surface membrane proteins, few address the inhibitory activity of antibodies to dense granular proteins (GRA proteins). Therefore, we performed a series of experiments to evaluate the inhibitory effects of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to GRA proteins (GRA2, 28 kDa; GRA6, 32 kDa) and surface membrane protein (SAG1, 30 kDa) on the invasion of T. gondii tachyzoites. Passive immunization of mice with one of three mAbs following challenge with a lethal dose of tachyzoites significantly increased survival compared with results for mice treated with control ascites. The survival times of mice challenged with tachyzoites pretreated with anti-GRA6 or anti-SAG1 mAb were significantly increased. Mice that received tachyzoites pretreated with both mAb and complement had longer survival times than those that received tachyzoites pretreated with mAb alone. Invasion of tachyzoites into fibroblasts and macrophages was significantly inhibited in the anti-GRA2, anti-GRA6 or anti-SAG1 mAb pretreated group. Pretreatment with mAb and complement inhibited invasion of tachyzoites in both fibroblasts and macrophages. These results suggest that specific antibodies to dense-granule molecules may be useful for controlling infection with T. gondii.
