ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of ATA1 in the synovial tissue from patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to localize expression of ATA1 in AS synovial membranes.In addition,tag SNPs were genotyped to determine the possible association of this gene with AS risk.MethodsWestern blotting analysis was applied to determine the expression of ATA1 in the synovial tissues by comparing the expression profiles of AS(n=8),rheumatoid arthritis(RA,n=9) and osteoarthritis(OA,n=9) samples.Immuno-histochemistry was used to localize the expression of ATA1 in the synovial membrane.The levels of ATA1 in the synovial fluid of patients with AS were determined using ELISA with OA and RA as controls.Taqman method was used to genotype tag SNPs (rs2753934,rs2749531 and rs6575424) in 56 AS cases,260RA cases and 160 healthy controls.ANOVA,LSD test andx2 test were used for statistical analysis.Results Increased expression of ATA1 in synovial membranes of AS was found when compared with samples from RA and OA.ELISA results showed significantly elevated level of ATA1 in the synovial fluid of patients with AS (1.6+0.6),but not in samples of RA(1.4±0.5) and OA (1.2±0.5)(P＜0.05).Haplotype analysis did not reveal a haplotype association in AS or RA(P＞0.05).ConclusionThe current findings suggest that upregulation of ATA1 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of AS.

Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significances of the chemokines of interferon-?-inducible protein-10(IP-10),monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) and growth-related oncogene-?(Gro-?) involved in pathagenesis of Kawasaki disease(KD) and HenochSchonlein purpura(HSP).Methods The chemokines production of IP-10,MCP-1 and Gro-? were assayed by ELISA in 15 patients with KD,12 patients with HSP and 10 healthy children.Results The plasma levels of IP-10 and MCP-1 were markedly elevated in KD group [(394.2?176.4)and(420.5?163.4)ng?L-1]compared with HSP group[(94.8?66.4)and(109.2?76.6)ng?L-1] and the control group [(76.4?46.5)and(87.7?47.8)ng?L-1](all P0.05),as well as Gro-? between the three groups.Conclusion Monocyte may enhance the immune damage in KD pathogenesis,and the levels of IP-10,MCP-1 may be important indexes for KD.Neutrophil may be not involved in pathogenesis of HSP and KD.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the case characteristics of poisoning by exhaust gas of the imperfect combustion of natural gas and provide references for forensic identification and prevention of such accidents. METHODS: Twenty-two cases of poisoning by exhaust gas of the imperfect combustion of natural gas in Minhang District during 2004 to 2013 were collected. Some aspects such as general conditions of deaths, incidence time, weather, field investigation, and autopsy were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: In the 22 cases, there were 15 males and 16 females. The age range was between 2 and 82 years old. The major occurring time was in January or February (8 cases in each) and the cases almost occurred in small area room (21 cases). There was wide crack next to the exhaust port when the gas water heater was been used in all cases. CONCLUSION There are more prone to occurrence of exhaust gas poisoning of imperfect combustion of natural gas in small area room with a ventilation window near the exhaust port of gas water heated. It shows that the scene of combustion exhaust gas poisoning should be more concerned in the cold season.

Objective To investigate the expressions of Livin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)in pancreatic carcinoma and their cilinical significances.Methods The expressions of Livin and VEGF proteins were tested by immunohistochemistry in 68 cases of pancreatic carcinomas and 44 cases of adja-cent paracancerous tissues.Results The positive rates of Livin in pancreatic carcinomas and adjacent paracan-cerous tissues were 73.5% and 4.5% respectively,and the difference was statistically significant (χ2 =48.137,P<0.001).The positive rates of VEGF in pancreatic carcinomas and adjacent paracancerous tissues were 69.1% and 13.6% respectively,and the difference was statistically significant (χ2 =29.147,P <0.001).The expressions of Livin and VEGF were related with tumor differentiation (χ2 =6.061,P=0.014;χ2 =6.592,P=0.010),TNMstage (χ2 =4.175,P=0.041;χ2 =9.992,P=0.002),lymph node metasta-sis (χ2 =11.731,P=0.001;χ2 =12.002,P=0.001)and neural invasion (χ2 =9.950,P=0.002;χ2 =7.433,P=0.006).Significantly positive correlation was found between the expressions of Livin and VEGF by using Spearman correlation analysis (r=0.320,P=0.008).Survival analysis showed that the expressions of Livin and VEGF were independent prognostic factors in pancreatic carcinoma.Conclusion Livin and VEGF involve in the development,migration and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma.Livin may upregulate the expres-sion of VEGF,which may lead to the angiogenesis and migration in pancreatic carcinoma.

Objective To observe the cognitive function and its related factors in patients with essential epilepsy.Methods The cognitive function of 70 essential epilepsy patients (epilepsy group) and 40 healthy controls(control group) were evaluated by means of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adult-Chinese (WAIS-RC).The relation between the cognitive dysfunction and its related factors were analyzed.Results The scores of performance intelligence quotient,verbal intelligence quotient,full intelligence quotient in epilepsy group were significantly lower than those in control group [(98.06 ± 15.24) scores vs.(113.80 ± 12.14) scores,(98.09 ± 16.06) scores vs.(120.65 ± 11.28) scores,(98.06 ± 15.80) scores vs.(119.42 ± 11.85) scores] (P ＜ 0.01).The scores of 11 numbers of rating scales were significantly lower than those in control group (P ＜ 0.01).The factors related to the cognitive function were education level,age numbers,duration of the disease,frequency of seizures attack before medication,the duration of seizures and the quantity of antiepileptics.Conclusions Many of the essential epilepsy patients have cognitive function deficit.The cognitive condition of essential epilepsy patients should be pay more attention and reduce the dangerous factors in order to improve the life quality.

Objective To observe the changes of soluble L-selectin(sL-selectin) concentrations in children with viral encephalitis(VE) and probe its significance in pathogenesy and clinic.Methods Selecting 30 children with VE,including 14 mild case and 16 severe case.Collecting their venous blood and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) in acute and recovery stage.Using double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) method to measure sL-selectin concentrations of serum and CSF and comparing with control group,respectively.Results SL-selectin concentrations from serum and CSF in the acute stage were significantly higher than those of control group(all P0.05).Conclusions L-selectin may participate in the pathologic course in VE.The concentrations of sL-selectin from serum and CSF are related with the patients′ condition and it has important reference value in judging patients′ condition,assessing their prognose and guiding clinical treatment.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the biomechanical stability and the clinical efficacy of the percutaneous pedicle screw fixation in the treatment of thoracolumbar fractures. Methods Twelve lumbar fracture models were made on fresh calf lumbar spine specimens to compare the stability of the 4 monoaxial screws and 4 muhiaxial screws transpedicular fixation by examining the range of motion(ROM) in flexion,extension, lateral bending, and torsion. Sixty cases of thoracolumbar fractures without neuro-deficiency were treated surgically, 11 of the minimally invasive group(monoaxial screw group) and 18 of the open surgery group(multiaxial screw group) were followed up more than 12 months. ResultsThe 4 monoaxial screws transpedicular fixation specimen exhibited a smaller ROM significantly in flexion, extension compared withthe 4 multiaxial screws transpedicular fixation specimen. The 4 monoaxial screws transpedicular fixationspecimen exhibited a significantly smaller ROM in flexion and extension than the intact specimens. TheROM in the 4 multiaxial screws transpedicular fixation specimen and the intact showed on significant differences. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the preoperative and postoperative anterior fractured vertebral height (AVH) and the Cobb's angle (CA), but there were significant differences in the AVH and the CA between preoperative and postoperative in the two groups. There were significant differences in the correction loss of the AVH between the two groups at final follow-up.ConclusionThe percutaneous pedicle screw fixation using Sextant system is a good minimally invasive surgical choice for patients with thoracolumbar fractures without neuro-deficiency, but which has a loss of the AVH and worse flexion-extension stiffness in follow-up compared with the open monoaxial screws fixation.

Objective To probe the effects of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-?B) on cell apoptosis and left ventricular segmental function in acute ischemia repeffusion in dogs.Method Twenty-four dogs were randomly divided into three groups:without left anterior artery (lAD) ligation group (C group),LAD was occluded 30 min following reperfusion 120 minutes in isehemical reperfusion group (IR group),and dogs were administered with PDTC before LAD ligation in ischemical reperfusion plus pyorrole dithitocarbamate group (PDTC group).The left ventricular segmental function was detected by echo cardiography using strain rate anlysis software.EF measured by Simpson's method.Cardiac myocyte apoptosis numbers were determined by terminal deoxynudeotidy transferease-mediated biotinylated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling (TUNEL).lmmunohistochemistry and western-blot anylysis of NF-?B protein expression.Results NF-?B was obviously expression on injury myocardium of IR group,and increased significantly in contrast to control group (P0.05)Conclusions NF-?B might play an important role in acute myocardial ischemia reperfusion.PDTC reduces myocardial iscbemia/repeffasion injury by preventing expression of factor NF-?B.
