The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health care conditions of patients who have Leprous disease, which is an infectious disease fixed for the third-class by law, to understand oral health care methods and effects of infectious disease patient, and to analyse those methods and effects in order to apply them to the national oral health occupation baseline data for utilizing continuous oral health occupation and to the treatment for handicapped person. he objects for this study were 7,491 patients(male:4,511, female:2,980) treated in the oral health center among Leprous disease patients, residents in the Sorokdo from 1995, May 1st to 1999, April 30th. We divided them into the first, second, third preventive care group according to the year by preventive classification of oral disease, analysed oral health statistics, classification according to the sex, age, practice, and each consultation hours. The subdivided results carrying out continuous oral health care system for four years were as follows: 1. The distribution for the age indicated that the number of 70-79 year-old patients group was the most, 2,169 and that of 60-69 year-old patients group was the second, 2,406. 2. All the number of consultation hours was 13,454. The consultation hours of first preventive care group were 1,359, 10.1% of them (male:812 female:547), the second group 3,942, 29.3%(male:2,103 female:1,839), the third 8,153, 60.6%(male:5,524 female:2,629) 3. The results of oral health care conditions indicated that DMF rate was 99.2% of them, DMFT rate 59.2%, DMF index 18.9, DT rate 2.6%, FT rate 7.4%, MT rate 49.1%, CPITN0 5%, CPITN10%, CPITN2 24%, CPITN3 71%. 4. It was analysed that the number of patients treated with continuous bridgework was 60 and that the number of patients wearing complete denture and partial denture was 290.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined xerostomia of Hansen's people wearing dentures, their perceived oral health as well as how their general characteristics and xerostomia affected their perceived oral health. METHODS: total of 100 subjects, who were 65 years or older and used in the sorokdo national hospital, were enrolled in this study. A survey and oral examination were carried out through a separate interview from July 1 through to July 30, 2015. A x2-test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data using the SPSS program. RESULTS: The number of natural teeth in the group of people under and over 74 was 9.92 and 7.01, respectively. The percentage of elderly people who were complete and partial dentures was 45,9% and 39.4% respectively. 48.2% and 31.1% of the elderly adults perceived their oral health to be moderate and poor, respectively. Regarding xerostomia, the subjects achieved a mean of 7.87 out of a maximum 12 points. Moreoverthose who were older and had fewer natural teeth felt that their xerostomia was more severe. The subjects xerostomia and perceived general health had a significant impact on their perceived oral health. CONCLUSIONS: These results highlight the need for oral health programs to help hansen's people retain more of their natural teeth.

Pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue is a rare disorder in Korea. It is characterized clinically by pigmentation confined to the fungiform papillae and histopathologically by the presence of melanophages in the upper dermis. We report a case of pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue in a 21-year-old woman who had brown to violaceous dots on the fungiform papillae and pigmented patches on the right lateral dorsum of the tongue. Histological findings showed increased melanophages in the upper dermis.

Chronic mucocutaneous randidiasis is a clinical syndrome characte ized by chronic and reccurent superficial candidal infection of the skin, mucous membranes, and nails. This syndrome is frequently associated with immune deficiency or endocrinopathy, especially hypopar; thyroidism. We report a case of chrcinic mucocutaneous candidiasis associated with hypoparathyroidism in a 8- year-old girl.

BACKGROUND: Herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSVtk) phosphorylates the prodrug ganciclovir to a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis, causing cell death. Neighbouring nontransfected cells may be affected through a 'bystander effect', thereby amplifying the antiproliferative actions. This study was carried out to determine whether retrovirus-mediated HSVtk gene therapy could reduce intimal hyperplasia and prevent stenosis following balloon injury of the rat carotid artery. METHODS: A replication-defective recombinant retroviral vector containing HSVtk cDNA (LtkSN) was constructed. Cultured primary rat smooth muscle cells (SMCs) infected with this vector (SMC/LtkSN) were transplanted to the balloon injured rat right carotid artery. One week after transplantation, HSVtk gene therapy group was administered a 2-week treatment of ganciclovir (30 mg/kg/d). Three weeks after balloon injury and SMC/LtkSN transplantation, carotid arteriography was performed and carotid arteries were perfusion-fixed for histologic examination. RESULTS: Carotid arteriographic evaluation comparing with the uninjured left carotid artery showed that the mean luminal diameter of HSVtk gene therapy group (n=5, 85+/-3%) was significantly larger than that of balloon injury only group (n=5, 65+/-5%). The neointimal mass of HSVtk gene therapy group was less than that of balloon injury only group. SMC/LtkSN transplantation without ganciclovir treatment group (n=3) showed asymmetric intimal proliferation probably because of gravitational pooling of seeding. There were inflammatory cell infiltrations at the gravity dependent portion of HSVtk gene therapy group. CONCLUSION: Retrovirus-mediated HSVtk gene therapy following balloon injury of the rat carotid artery reduced neointimal expansion and arteriographic stenosis.

The authors analysed 30 eyes that "Trabeculectomy ab externo" was performed in S.N.U.H. Trabeculectomy was preferable operation in simple glaucoma and even in chronic closed angle glaucoma, but in congenital glaucoma, goniotomy was more preferable than trabeculectomy. In its mode of action, trabeculectomy was regarded as a sort of filtering precedure.
