At the time in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, patients with unsuitable endometrium recovered by hormone. However, the overtreatment of hormone causes indispositionly the uterus internal secretion and finally induces endometriosis. Therefore, this study was done to inverstigate the effects of interleukin-2, which was known to differentiator and proliferator of T cells, on proliferation of the endometrial stromal cells in vitro. We have exammined the effects of interleukin-2, on the proliferation of bovine endometrial stromal cells in vitro, assessed by ['H]-thymidine incorporation and MTT assay methods. Results indicate that we isolated endometrial stromal cells from bovine uterus and established in vitro culture system. And interleukin-2 showed distint stimulatory effect on proliferation of the established stromal cells. These stimulative effects were not affected by estrogen and progesterone indirectly. In conclusion, these data imply that interleukin-2 may proliferate bovine endometrial stromal, cells, and it provides clue for understanding of direct actions of cytokines on the endometriat cells.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Clinically, maxillary first premolar has a high risk of fracture. This is thought to be caused by the susceptible figure which the maxillary first premolar has. In other words, sharp cusp angles of the premolar is thought to influence this situation. PURPOSE: This study was to know stress distribution of all-ceramic crown according to the cusp angle. MATERIAL AND METHOD: It was manufactured a three dimensional finite element model simplified maxillary first premolar, and then analyzed stress distribution when cusp angle was each 80 degrees, 90 degrees, 100 degrees, 110 degrees and 120 degrees. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: 1. The von Misses stress showed that stress decreases as cusp angle increases in the central groove of the occlusal surface. 2. It showed that maximum principal stress was centered at the region of the central groove of the occlusal surface and a region which the force was inflicted. And also it appeared high on the lingual and buccal side of finish line. 3. The X axis of normal stress was focused in the central groove of the occlusal surface. The Y axis normal stress appeared high in the central groove of the occlusal surface, buccal and lingual side. 4. The Stress near the finish line showed a low value compared with stress in the region of the central groove of the occlusal surface. 5. It shows that the most dangerous angle for tooth fracture was on 80 degrees of the cusp angle and low on 120 degrees of its.

It has been shown that wornen with endometriosis have several immunological defects. The effect of interleukin-2 (IL-2) for the treatment of induced endometriosis in rat was studied. The results obtained are as followings: proliferation of epithelium is increased, and the inner surface is undulated with 1.5 nM IL-2. In 7.5 nM IL-2, the epithelial cells are changed to columar ones, and secretory hobs are observed at the apex of individual cell. Secretory activity of epithelium is increased with 0.5 nM IL-2, and apoptosis of the epithelial cell is observed in 15 nM IL-2. The levels of progesterone and estradiol in sera of rat were increased after treatment with IL-2 and were highest in the concentration of 1.5 nM IL-2. The results of this study can be a guide in the development of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of endometriosis.

Korean Journal of Radiology 2008;9(5):396-400
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to report the outcome of the endovascular treatment of eight patients with eight saccular posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over the last seven years (1999-2006), eight consecutive patients with saccular PICA aneurysms were treated by endovascular methods. Five of the aneurysms were presented with subarachnoid hemorrhaging, whereas three were discovered incidentally. Four of the aneurysms (3 ruptured and 1 incidental) were treated by intrasaccular coiling, whereas the remaining four (1 ruptured and 3 incidental) were treated by vertebral artery (VA) occlusion. RESULTS: Of the four aneurysms treated by intrasaccular coiling, three were completely packed with coils and one was partially packed. In three of four patients who underwent vertebral artery occlusions, follow-up digital subtraction angiographies demonstrated thrombosed aneurysms and PICA. No procedure-related morbidity occurred and no re-bleed was encountered during a follow-up examination (mean; 31 months). CONCLUSION: As a result of this study, we found that the endovascular management of saccular PICA aneurysms should be considered as safe and effective.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1998;39(5):991-995
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between osteoporosis and skin thicknessas shown by CT scanning. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty- six women with osteoporosis (mean age, 52) and 51 normalcontrols (mean age, 50) participated in the study. For a quantitative CT examinations, a CT scanner(Somatom Plus,Siemens) was used. Osteoporosis was defined as present when spinal bone mineral density was more than 2.5 standarddeviations below young normal density, as determined by quantitative CT. Patients with endocrinologic, malignantor collagen disease and undergoing antimetabolite or steroid therapy were excluded. The thickness of back skin wasretrospectively measured at the third lumbar vertebra level, as seen on CT films, using a conventional magnifier. For statistical analysis, Students' t test and Spearman's rank correlation were used. RESULTS: On the basis of CTscans, the mean thickness of back skin in the osteoporotic group(0.50+/-0.20 mm) was significantly less than innormal control subjects(0.80+/-0.23 mm) (p<0.001). Significant correlation was observed between skin thickness andbone mineral density(r=0.523, p<0.0001). Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and positive and negative predictivevalues were measured as 76, 78, 76, 88, 62% with a cut-off value of 0.6 and 84, 61, 77, 81, 66% with a cut-offvalue of 0.7, respectively. CONCLUSION: The present study demonstrated that the thickness of back skin, asmeasured by CT scanning, is predictive of osteoporosis.

The Korean Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2003;23(4):234-241
BACKGROUND: In post-menopausal women, osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases which are partly due to estrogen deficiency, occur more common than in pre-menopause women. Estrogen action is supposed to be mediated by an estrogen receptor (ER) and two polymorphisms of the ER gene in particular, Pvu II and Xba I, have been described for several years for genetic association studies. Authors have investigated the frequencies and patterns of the ER gene polymorphisms and their association with bone markers and lipid levels. METHODS: For 121 women who visited the health promotion center of Kyungpook National University Hospital, the ER gene polymorphisms were determined by the Pvu II and Xba I restriction enzymes following polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: The distributions of ER Pvu II and Xba I restriction fragment length polymorphisms were as follows: PP 15.7%, Pp 47.9%, pp 36.4% and XX 5.8%, Xx 31.4%, xx 62.8%, respectively. And in a combination of two polymorphisms, ppxx was the most common, followed by PpXx, Ppxx, PPXx, PPXX and PPxx in that order. No significant genotypic differences were found in bone mineral density, bone markers and menopausal status. LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels were significantly different by genotypes in premenopausal women (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that ER polymorphisms might be associated with LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Further evaluation in a larger population would be helpful to determine the effects of ER polymorphisms on lipid metabolism and therapeutic trial for cardiovascular diseases in women.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 2006;24(6):601-604
Neurolymphomatosis, which is defined as a peripheral nerve infiltration of lymphoma, is an infrequent complication of systemic lymphoma and the isolated involvement of the peripheral nerve as a sign of recurrence is very rare. Here, we report a case with neurolymphomatosis presented as a mononeuropathy multiplex and is the first reported case in Korea. With potent chemotherapy, the blood-nerve barrier may have a critical role in the isolated recurrence of lymphoma in the peripheral nervous system.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1998;39(4):671-677
PURPOSE: The purpose of this animal and clinical study was to compare intra-arterial(IA) scintigraphy withangiography in the localization of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After sedation withintramuscularly administered ketamine, lower GI bleeding was induced in ten rabbits. Using inguinal cut-down, anarterial femoral 3F catheter was placed in the proximal mesenteric artery. Following abdominal incision to exposethe bowel, lower GI bleeding was caused by incising the antimesenteric border of the small bowel wall. Initialangiography was performed, and this was followed by Tc-99m pertechnetate IA scintigarphy. Tc-99m RBC IAscintigraphy involved two patients who had undergone selective mesenteric arterial catheterization for theevaluation of acute lower GI bleeding. RESULTS: Ten rabbits, bleeding at a mean rate of 0.7g/min, were studied.IA scintigraphy was superior to angiography in four cases and equal in six. The sensitivity of angiography was40%(4/10), and IA scintigraphy 80%(8/10). In one patient, Tc-99m RBC was administered directly into the superiormesenteric artery and ulcer bleeding in the transverse colon was identified. Prior to conventional angiography, the bleeding had been occult. In a second patient, in whom angiography had revealed a hypervascular mass, selective injection of Tc-99m RBC into the superior mesenteric artery revealed tumor(leiomyoma) bleeding in thejejunum. CONCLUSION: Selective IA scintigraphy was valuable for detecting intestinal bleeding, occult duringconventional studies and may be useful for detecting acute bleeding at the time of negative angiography.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2009;50(12):1840-1846
PURPOSE: To investigate peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness profiles associated with myopia. METHODS: One hundred and twenty-seven normal eyes of 67 Korean adults were divided into three groups by spherical equivalent. All subjects were tested with fast RNFL scans of Stratus optical coherence tomography. The angular locations of superior and inferior maximal thickness points in relationship to a reference line drawn horizontally though the center of the scan circle were calculated from the raw data of scanned images (angle alpha, angle beta). Differences of angle alpha and angle beta were compared among the three groups. RESULTS: Angle alpha and angle beta were significantly different in three groups (ANOVA, p<0.001, respectively). Angle alpha and angle beta were also significantly different among the three groups for excluded eyes with tilted discs. CONCLUSIONS: The points of superior and inferior maximal peripapillary RNFL thickness were significantly different in three groups divided by spherical equivalent. As myopia becomes more severe, superior and inferior maximal peripapillary RNFL thickness points are located closer to the fovea.
