Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2012;(11):1314-1316
Objective To investigate the effect of propofol on the expression of c-fos mRNA in hippocampus in rats with visceral pain (VP).Methods Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 180-240 g,were randomly divided into 3 groups (n =10 each):VP group, propofol 7.5 mg/kg group (group P1) and propofol 75.0 mg/kg group (group P2).0.9% normal saline was injected intravenously via the caudal vein in group VP.Propofol 7.5 and 75.0 mg/kg were injected intravenously via the caudal vein in groups P1 and P2,respectively.VP was produced by colorectal distension in anesthetized rats. The threshold of VP was assessed by the intra-balloon pressure which was limited to 100 mm Hg to avoid damage to intestine before and after administration. The rats were sacrificed after measurement of the pain threshold, their brains were removed and hippocampi were isolated for determination of the expression of c-fos mRNA by RT-PCR.Results Compared with group VP,the threshold of VP was significantly increased and the expression of c-fos mRNA in hippocampus was down-regulated in groups P1 and P2 (P < 0.05).The threshold of VP was significantly higher and the expression of c-fos mRNA in hippocampus was lower in group P2 than in group P1 (P < 0.05).Conclusion Propofol can reduce VP through down-regulating the expression of c-fos mRNA in hippocampus in rats.

As a rising automatic identification technology, radio frequency identification (RFID) is receiving considerable attention and eliciting widespread interest in medical institutions in China. Some medical institutions have begun exploring and developing RFID systems for kinds of applications. A majority of medical institutions pay insufficient attention to the issue of RFID interference with medical devices. Specialized standards for the application of RFID in healthcare environments are desired. And there are misalignments between existing technology standards. Further researches should be developed to study the influence on safety and efficiency of medical devices induced by RFID system.

Objective To explore the impact of partial or complete rupture of the tibiofibular syndesmosis on the biomechanical properties of the ankle joint. Methods Six fresh cadaveric specimens of adult ankle were used for creation of 3 models of tibiofibular syndesmosis. In model A,the medial and lateral ligaments of the ankle joint and the tibiofihular syndesmosis were intact. In model B,only the anterior lower tibiofibular ligament was broken. In model C,all inferior tibiofibular ligaments were broken. The 3 models were tested with an electronic pressure sensor in a BOSE material testing machine respectively at 5 positions:10° dorsal extension,20° inversion,20° eversion,20° plantar flexion, and neutral position. The peak values and locations of the compressive stresses of the 3 models at 5 positions were recorded. All the data were collected and analyzed using IBM SPSS 22.0 statistical software. Results Model A exhibited the smallest average stress at all the 5 positions, followed by model B and model C,with significant differences between groups (P < 0.05).The locations of main compressive stress at the neutral position,10° dorsal extension, and 20° plantar flexion in model B and model C tended to expand outwards compared with model A,especially in model C.Conclusions Rupture of the anterior lower tibiofibular ligament and inferior tibiofibular ligaments may increase the compressive stress on the ankle joint, especially rupture of the inferior tibiofibular ligaments. The location of main compressive stress tends to expand outwards when the anterior lower tibiofibular ligament and inferior tibiofihular ligaments are broken, especially the inferior tibiofibular ligaments.

BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene (hTERT) transfection can significantly extend the life cycle of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels so that the cels can continue to maintain pluripotency.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of hTERT gene-modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels on hepatocyte proliferation and apoptosis.
METHODS:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels from rats were isolated and cultured using direct adherent method. Then, hTERT eukaryotic expression plasmid, pCIneo-hTERT, was transferred into the cels using liposome transfection method. The hTERT-modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels were co-cultured with hepatocytes at 1:1 (observation group), and meanwhile, non-transfected bone marrow mesenchyam stem cels were co-cultured with hepatocytes at 1:1 (control group), and hepatocytes cultured alone served as single culture group. Effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels on hepatocyte proliferation and apoptosis were observed by MTT assay and immunofluorescence staining.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The proliferative rate of hepatocytes was significantly higher in the observation group than the control and single culture groups (P < 0.05), and the survival rate of hepatocytes was significantly higher in the observation group than the single culture group (P < 0.05). Experimental findings suggest hTERT-modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels can inhibit hepatocyte apoptosis but promote hepatocyte proliferation, so as to improve hepatocyte function.

It is one of key scientific problems to identify the effective compounds in the study on new TCM. Because of the integrity of the effects of TCM, the diversity of constituents, the complexity of the targets and the unpredictability of the interaction among the components, the efficiency of the traditional efficacy substance research method is generally not high. Based on the research thought of quantitative composition-activity relationship, there are inevitable quantitative correlation between chemical compositions and its biological activity. The quantitative composition-activity relationship research is an effective method to detect the effective compounds. This article reviewed the common methods and technologies used in the quantitative composition-activity relationship research, with a purpose to provide some references for the study on basic effective components in TCM.

Objective To observe and measure the facial nerve canal(FNC) in curved planar reformation by multislice spiral CT.Methods High resolution computed tomography (HRCT)of temporal bone was performed in 40 cases (80 ears) by multislice spiral CT. Curved planar reformation of FNC was performed separately in axial, coronal and sagittal plane of multiplanar reconstruction. The morphology and measurement of FNC were studied. Results The mean length of FNC was (29.73?1.07)mm. The mean length of the labyrinthine, tympanic and mastoid segment was (5.6?0.74)mm, (10.66?0.79)mm and (13.47?1.01)mm respectively. The mean diameter of the l-abyrinthine, geniculate fossa, tympanic and mastoid segment was (0.76?0.16)mm, (2.37?0.63)mm, (1.03?0.16)mm and (1.57?0.31)mm respectively. The mean angle of first and second genu was 67.04??9.41? and 114.25??8.44? respectively. The distance between the tympanic segment and ampulla of the lateral semicircular canal was (0.57?0.19)mm. The distance between the tympanic segment and arch of the lateral semicircular canal was (1.59?0.61)mm. The mean angle between the tympanic segment of the facial nerve canal and the lateral semicircular canal was 10.63??3.60?. The tympanic course of the facial nerve canal formed an angle of 34.65??5.39? with the sagittal plane. Dehiscences was found in 89% FNC, 73.7% of them only located in the tympanic portion and 26.3% both in the mastoid and tympanic portions. Conclusion Curved planar reformation of FNC by multislice spiral CT is the good method to study the anatomy of FNC,and in combination with HRCT axial scan and multiplanar reconstrution can obtain more valuable information.

Multidrug resistance proteins (MRP2, ABCC2) may play a role in drug resistance in epilepsy by
limiting gastrointestinal absorption and brain access of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). We sought to
investigate the effects of ABCC2 polymorphisms on plasma carbamazepine (CBZ) concentrations
and pharmacoresistance in Chinese patients with epilepsy. ABCC2 rs717620, rs2273697, rs3740066
polymorphisms were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction amplification followed by restriction
fragment length polymorphism analysis or direct automated DNA sequencing in 80 patients treated
with CBZ monotherapy. There were no differences in CBZ maintenance doses or adjusted plasma
CBZ concentrations among the ABCC2 rs717620, rs2273697 and rs3740066 genotypic groups.
No associations between all the studied genotypes and haplotypes involving the three SNPs of
ABCC2 and CBZ resistance were observed in this patient cohort. These results suggest that ABCC2
polymorphisms may not contribute to interindividual variabilities in CBZ daily maintenance doses,
plasma concentrations, and treatment efficacy.
