859 patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection had followed from February 1997 to September 1998. The natural history of chronic HBV infection was described: Seroconvertion from HBeAg to anti-HBe is 9.6% per year; in which patients with high level of ALT the rate seroconvertion is 15.8%. The highest rate of spontaneous seroconversion occurred in the 20 to 40 age groups. The rate of seroconversion per year of HBsAg was low, about 1.2%; Patients with HBeAg positive may suffer from chronic hepatitis B at the rate of 16.8%. Cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma commontly happened in the patients over 40 years old
