1.Nuclear factor kappa B and diabetic retinopathy
Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2004;0(01):-
Diabetic retinopathy is a highly specific vascular complication of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.NF-?B can be triggered by oxidative stress and controls several programs of gene expression, the majority of which participate in the host inflammation and immune response.Evidence has accumulated that NF-?B is involved in the development of diabetic retinopathy.NF-?B activation induced by diabetes is associated with the apoptosis found in the pericyte,leukocyte-endothelial interaction, capillary basement membrane thickening, neovascularization and formation of epiretinal membranes.Inhibition of(NF-?B) activation has been suggested as a treatment strategy in diabetic retinopathy.

In patients with a functional gut, enteral nutrition is the preferred route of nutrition support. The favorable effects of enteral nutrition include prevention of mucosal atrophy, maintaining of the integrity of gut flora, and improvement of immunocompetence. The guidlines recommend EN be withheld in patients requiring significant hemodynamic support, because of highdose catecholamine agents which could reduce EN tolerance.Splanchnic perfusion is reduced in sepsis shock, yet vasoactive agents have demonstrated both improved and diminished perfusion.Inadequate perfusion increases the risk of experiencing rare but serious adverse events. This study summarizes the tolerability and safety of enteral nutritionin in critically iH patients with hemodynamic instability and provides theoretical basis for the early administration of EN.

Journal of Environment and Health 2007;0(12):-
Objective To explore the intellectual effects of arsenic in drinking water on children. Methods Intellectual effects were evaluated by computer-based reaction time and Combined Raven's Test. Children aged 9 to 11 years living in three villages of Inner Mongolia were investigated in April, 2006. The arsenic concentrations in the drinking water of the three villages were 0.16 mg/L, 0.09 mg/L and less than 0.05 mg/L (control group). Results The mean, fastest and slowest visual reaction time of children exposed to the high levels of arsenic through drinking water were longer than those of children in control. The differences of mean, fastest and slowest visual reaction time between girls exposed to 0.16 mg/L arsenic and control were significant; the differences of the mean and slowest visual reaction time between 10-year old children exposed to 0.16 mg/L arsenic and control were significant. IQ of girls exposed to 0.16 mg/L arsenic was significantly lower than that in control. Conclusion Intellectual function of children can be affected by arsenic in drinking water, and the intellectual effects of arsenic on girls are more obvious.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2009;13(47):9309-9312
Chitosan, deacetylated derivative of chitin, is a kind of natural polysaccharide polymer. It has advantages of rich source, good biocompatibility and biodegradation. Chitosan can be processed into porous scaffolds used for cell transplantation and tissue regeneration in bone tissue engineering, control-released carrier of growth factors and delivery vector of exogenous genes. Meanwhile, it can also be processed into injectable scaffolds used in bone tissue engineering in the form of microspheres or hydrogel. Chitosan and its derivatives will have broad application prospects in the research field of bone tissue engineering. However, chitosan composite scaffold has poor mechanical function, difficult accuracy control of In vivo degradation, and low efficiency for genetic carrier, chitosan research stays in in vitro tests and in vivo animal experiments. With the development of materials science and life science, chitosan will be widely used for clinical application of bone tissue defect.

Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2003;0(04):-
Objective:To study the express levels of transcription factor nuclear factor-?B in diabetic rat retina. Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control groups of 1, 3 and 6 months, diabetic groupsof 1, 3 and 6 months, respectively. Diabetic model of rat was induced by injecting streptozotocin (STZ). The retinal morphology was observed in paraffin slide by microscope. The expression of NF-?B was detected by immunohistochemistry and electrophoretic mobility shift assay. Results: Histopathological changes were detected at 3 and 6 months. The changes were severer at 3 months than at 6 months. Activation of retinal NF-?B was detected by electrophoretic mobility shift assay and immunohistochemistry at 1 month, and the NF-?B remained activated at 3 and 6 months in diabetic rats. Conclusion: NF-?B is activated in retina in diabetes before histopathological changes can be seen, and remains activated for the duration when the retinopathy is developing.
9. The application and limitation of suspension culture in the study of neoplastic stem cells
Tumor 2012;32(7):559-563
Neoplastic stem cells are generally recognized as a key factor in carcinogenesis and progression and metastasis of cancer. Recently, many studies have been focused on neoplastic stem cells. However, in consideration of lack of specific biological marker and unclear information about the allocation and morphology of neoplastic stem cells, it is difficult to separate them from tumor cells directly. The difference in function between neoplastic stem cells and the tumor cells was commonly used to distinguish them. Suspension culture is one of the most widely used methods to identify, enrich and purify neoplastic stem cells. It can conveniently demonstrate the capabilities of self-renewal and proliferation at the single-cell level. However, the neoplastic stem cells harvested from suspension culture are different from the original neoplastic stem cells, and not all of the cells sharing the features of neoplastic stem cells can survive in the suspension culture. Thus, the limitation of application of suspension culture in the study of neoplastic stem cells should be emphasized, and which is reviewed in this paper. Copyright © 2012 by TUMOR.
