Objective To study the mechanism of the rat’s myocardium induced by macleaya cordata. Methods36 SD rats were randomly assigned to 2 experimental groups treated by macleaya cordata decoction with a dose of 1/6 LD50, 1/3 LD50 respectively and a control group treated with distilled water by oral administration. The rats were killed 6 hours after the administration for taking the cardiac muscle to examine the Ca2+.Mg2+-ATPase, SDH while observing the structures. ResoultsIn the group treated by macleaya cordata with dose of 1/6 LD50, the activity of Ca2+.Mg2+-ATPase and SDH were increased significantly. However, the groups treated by macleaya cordata with dose of 1/3 LD50 and distilled water, the activity of Ca2+.Mg2+-ATPase,SDH showed no significant change. The apoptosise in myocardium cells of rat’s can be observed in the experimental groups, while the changes were not seen in control group. ConclusionThe results indicate that the macleaye cordata can induce and improve the apoptosis of myocardium cells in low dose, and these effects may be induced by stimulating the activity of Ca2+.Mg2+-ATPase,SDH in myocardium cells.

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1957;0(04):-
The projection area of the volar surface of the human hand was estimated on 52 young Chinese adults(26 males and 26 females.)ranging in age from 18 to 31. The average projection area of the volar surface of the hand was 145.20 square centimetres. It occupied 0.93% of the calculated body surface. The area of the palm was 86.69 square centimetres, amounting to 59.70% of the volar surface of the whole hand. All dimensions of different parts of the hand of males were larger than those of females. There was no difference between the right and left hands of both sexes. The coefficient of correlation among the body length, body weight, length and width of the hand, surface area of the whole body with the projection area of the volar surface of the hand was calculated. All showed close correlation. The regression of the estimation of the projection area of the volar surface of the hand with hand length and hand width was established. It is therefore to be assumed that the area of the volar surface of the hand calculated as one per cent of the body area, as it is often used in surgical examina- tions, seems to be a little higher than its real area(0.93%.

Objective To investigate the relationship of gene polymorphisms of angiotensin eonvertion enzyme (ACE), aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2)and α-adducin with subclinical renal lesion. Methods I/D polymorphism of ACE gene, -344T/C polymorphism of CYP11B2 gene and 460G/T polymorphism of α-adduein gene were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restrictive fragment length polymorphism(RFLP) in 604 normotensive subjects and 1081 primary hypertensive patients whose creatinine (Cr) were less than 2mg/L. The primary hypertensive and normotensive subjects were divided respectively into normal group (Ccr≥60ml/min) and subclinical renal lesion (Ccr<60 ml/min) group, according to creatinine clearance rate (Ccr) calculated by Cockcroft-Gault equation. Results ANOVA, contingency X2 and partition of chi-square were selected. The frequencies of different genotypes of ACE, CYP11B2, and α-adducin were in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in our study. Normal renal function group (A group, n=512) and subclinical renal lesion group (B group, n=92) in normotensive subjects, and normal renal function group (C group, n=828) and subclinical renal lesion group (D group, n=252) in hypertensive patients were compared. The patients in B and D groups were older than those in A and C groups (P<0.01). But there were no significant differences in the age between B and D groups, and between A and C groups. The frequency of ACE-DD genotype in D group was the highest (22.6%) among four groups and the frequency of α-adducin-TT genotype in A group was the lowest (13.3%) among four groups (all P<0.01). The differences of genotype frequencies of ACE and α-adducin genes among other three groups were not significant. No significant difference was found in frequencies of genotypes of CYP11B2 among four groups. Conclusions Subclinical renal lesion is increased with the aging. ACE-DD genotype is related with hypertension and subclinical renal lesion, while α-adducin-TT genotype is related with hypertension and subclinical renal lesion. Association between the genotypes of CYP11B2 and subclinical renal lesion is not found.

Objective: To explore the clinical features and prognosis in patients with Takayasu arteritis (TA) combining neurological symptoms. Methods: We retrospectively studied 274 TA patients combining neurological symptoms who admitted to our hospital from 2002-01 to 2013-10 for their clinical and imaging features with prognosis. Results: The ratio of male to female was 1:4.3 and the mean age of disease onset was at (28.2±11.2) years. The most common neurological symptom was dizziness (214/274 cases, 78.1%), most frequent type was type III TA (112 cases, 40.9%), most common affected artery was left subclavian artery (147 cases, 53.6%), and there were 77 cases (28.1%) with (3-4) branches of the aortic arch involvement. For stroke conditions, ischemic stroke was more frequently observed in patients with steno-occlusive lesions in subclavian artery and common carotid artery, while hemorrhagic stroke was more frequently found in patients with steno-occlusive lesions in descending aorta, abdominal aorta and/or renal artery. Heart failure was the most common cause of death, it was also the most common cardiovascular event in surviving cohorts. Conclusion: TA patients could have many neurological symptoms, which were related to the number and site of artery involvement.

To investigate the effect of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) gene transfection on the proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and to provide basis for accelerating bone defect repairing using gene-enhanced tissue engineering technology, Rabbit periosteum-derived MSCs were transfected with the full-length rat bFGF cDNA in vitro. The transient and stable gene expression of bFGF were determined by immunohistochemistry. The proliferation and the synthesis alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and osteocalcin(OC) of the transfected MSCs were also examined. The results showed that bFGF cDNA could be transferred into osteoblasts and expressed stably at least 4 weeks. The proliferation and OC content of genetically modified MSCs were increased significantly, whereas the ALP activity remained no change. In conclusion, transfer of gene encoding bFGF to MSCs increases its proliferation and osteogenesis property. Based on the successful conjunction of the existing techniques of tissue engineering with the novel possibilities offered by modern gene transfer technology, an innovative concept, molecular tissue engineering, was put forward for the first time. As a new branch of tissue engineering, it represents both a new area and an important trend in tissue engineering research.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2006;23(2):279-281
Cell culture is one of the usual methods for studying living cell and tissue, the method presented in this paper is based on image processing and analyzing technology for activity estimation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The existing activity estimation methods are costly, complex and invasive. In this method, thresholding is used to preprocess image and to separate out the growth hallow. Then the area is calculated by counting the pixels of the growth hallow. The changes of the activity estimated by this method are similar to those by corresponding cellular experiments. Compared with the existing methods in biology, medicine or medical cellular science, this method is easier, faster, cost-effective and non-invasive. The proposed method has been proved to be efficient by primary experiments of MSCs.
