Objective To explore a practicable method of serial sections of whole CNS in the rat, in which both neurons and nerve fibers were showed at the same section. Methods After perfused fixation and quick freezing, the tissues of whole CNS were cut into serial sections with cryostat followed by hematoxylin stain. Results The nerve fibers were stained in blue color while the neurons were showed black-blue and the background was light-yellow.Conclusion Our method was feasible to show both neurons and nerve fibers at the same section with quick freezing, freezing serial sectioning and improved hematoxylin staining.

Objective To investigate the effect of hypertension on carotid atherosclerosis ,and the clinical significance of BFI technique in the diagnosis of carotid atherosclerosis .Methods Using BFI technique and CDFI technique to detect 198 cases of pa-tients with hypertension(hypertension groups) and 200 cases with normal blood pressure(control group) of carotid internal-media thickness(IMT) and the number of atherosclerotic plaque .To explore the relationship between hypertension and carotid atheroscle-rosis .Results IMT and the detection rate of plaque of hypertension groups was significantly higher than which of control group (P<0 .01) .In hypertension groups ,the higher of blood pressure levels ,the higher carotid IMT and the detection rate of plaque(P<0 .01 or P<0 .05) .The detection rate of plaque in BFI technique was higher than which in CDFI technique (P<0 .01) .Conclusion hypertension can aggravate carotid atherosclerosis ,and the higher blood pressure levels ,the more obvious of carotid atherosclerosis . BFI technique is useful for the detection of carotid atherosclerosis .

IgA vasculitis (IgAV) is a common systemic small-sized vessel vasculitis.It's characterized by non-thrombocytopenic palpable purpura,arthralgia/arthritis,bowel angina,and nephritis,but some details of etiology and pathogenesis is not very clear.The disease course is usually benign and self-limited,however,it is necessary to discuss the therapy of severe or chronic cases,especially there is not enough evidence-based basis for using key drugs to IgAV.Excellent clinical trails is expected to establish scientific system of prediction and evaluation of disease course,which will be helpful to individualize treatment of IgAV.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the quality of follow-up in Chinese Archives Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck surgery and offer evidence for the improvement of follow up. METHODS Chinese Archives Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck surgery (January 1994 to December 2005) were searched,and clinical materials of follow-up was identified and analyzed. RESULTS Seventy-six issues were referred to and one hundred ninety-nine papers were finally identified and analyzed. CONCLUSION Although there are major problems on follow-up in Chinese Archives Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck Surgery and Archives Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck Surgery,much improvement has been made on the quantity and quality of clinical material follow-up in Chinese Archives Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck Surgery.

Recent studies show that resveratrol is characterized with its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, and plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer through modulating intracellular carbohydrate and ceramide metabolism, activating tumor suppressors such as activator of transcription 3 and peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ, down-regulating the expression of kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene and inhibiting the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition process of cancer cells.In addition,resveratrol exhibits its broad application prospects in combination therapy.

Objective To explore the outpatients′experience of caring and provide references for improving their experience of medical care.Methods The phenomenology research method was adopted in this study,and twenty-one outpatients were subject to an in-depth interview to learn their outpatient experiences.Results Ten themes of experience with caring were extracted as follows:passionate and patient,careful and considerate,respect for others,offers to help,encouraging and comforting,apologies and courteously,humor,truthful considerations,conscientious and responsible,and a caring environment setup.Five themes of experience without caring were extracted as follows:impatient communication, careless seeing of outpatients,delayed service,passive reminders,and facilities without enough details. Conclusions The outpatients may have abundant experiences of caring at the outpatient clinic,also lack of caring sometimes as well.Outpatient managers should keep an eye on outpatients′needs and satisfaction of caring from time to time,to improve the quality of outpatient service.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of utilizing pedicled sternocleidomastoid clavicular periosteocutaneous flap to reconstruct the laryngotracheal defect after tumor resection. METHOD: To review 6 cases of laryngotracheal defect resulting from resction of thyroid papillary carcinoma(4/6) or subglottic laryngeal carcinoma (2/6) (T1~2N1~2M0 , UICC,2002), laryngotracheal stenting was also employed in all cases. Half a year after surgery, the stoma was sutured if no local recurrence took place and safety was proved after tracheal tube had been obstructed for days. The follow-up time lasted from half a year to 3 years. RESULT: Four cases (4/6) were extubated successfully without event, one case could intermittently plug the tracheal tube. One patient couldn't breath with tracheal tube plugging. CONCLUSION To reconstruct the laryngotracheal defect with pedicled sternocleidomastoid clavicular.periosteocutaneous flap after tumor resection is feasible in selected cases and could get satisfactory clinical results either in respiration or phonation.

Objective To investigate the coronary arterial lesions (CAL) in Kawasaki disease (KD) in Jilin Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 1999 through 2012 and evaluate the influence of glucocorticoids (GCs) on prognosis.Methods We performed a retrospective study among patients of KD in Jilin Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 1999 to 2012,in order to observe CAL in KD,the incidence of sequelae and the influence of CGs on disease outcome.Comparison between groups was carried out by Chi-square test.Results Eight hundred and ten KD cases were reported from 32 hospitals and 787 patients accepted an Echo examination,as the main objective of this study.Fivehundred and forty were boys and 247 were girls,with the male to female ratio of 2.19:1,of which 498 cases (63.3％) had CAL.Most CAL occurred in patients at 58 day to 14 year old (2.7±2.4).The most common abnormality was CAL including dilatation (49.5％) and stenosis (13.4％).Compared incomplete to complete KD,the result showed that the occurrence of CAL was similar between these two groups,no significant differences could be found between different gender.Nineteen (2.4％) of them had cardiac sequelae and the male/female ratio was 3.67:1.The younger the age,the higher the incidence of cardiac sequelae.The most frequent cardiac sequelae was coronary artery dilatation.GCs therapy could increase the occurrence of CAL [80.2％(97/121) vs 62.6％ (419/666),x2=8.71,P＜0.05].Conclusion CAL is not different between patients with complete or incomplete KD and the occurrence of CAL is not associated with gender,but with age.The younger the age,the higher the incidence of CAL and the higher the incidence of cardiac sequelae.It is possible that patients treated with GCs are prone to CAL.

Background The anti-proliferative effect of matrine has been demonstrated and its relevance to prevention and treatment of proliferative retinovitreopathy is concerned.Howeverthe intravitreous injection of free-matrine reiteratively may raise the risk of ocular infection.ObjectiveThe goal of the present study is to investigate the sustained releasing ability and safety of matrine polyactic acid microsphere(MAT-PLA-MSintravitreal injection.MethodsMAT-PLA-MS was prepared by Hebei Medical University and examined under the transmission electron microscope.The release of MAT-PLA-MS was monitored by ultraviolet spectrophotometry.Free-matrine with the dose of 1,2,4mg was intravitreally injected respectively in 12 eyes of New Zealand albino rabbits in free-matrine group and MAT-PLA-MS with matrine(2,4,6mg respectively was administered in 16 eyes separately in matrine microsphere group.The blank microsphere was injected in 6 right eyes as blank control group and normal saline solution was injected in 6 fellow eyes as control group.The retinal function change was evaluated by electroretinogram(ERG),and the morphological and histological change of retina following drug injection were assessed under the slit lamp biomicroscope,indirect ophthalmoscope,light microscope and transmission electron microscope.The decomposed process of MAT-PLA-MS in vitreous was recorded with ocular anterior segment and fundus color camera.Results MAT-PLA-MS containing matrine showed the spherical shape with the mean diameter of 2.28±47μm under the transmission electron microscope and the drug-loading rate 6.17% and drug-release rate 87.93% in vitro for 672 hours,presenting the controllable release characteristics.After implantation into the vitreous,the MAT-PLA-MS containing matrine decomposed gradually with the prolong of time.The b amplitudes of ERG maximum response were significantly declined in 4mg free-matrine injection group in comparison with before injection in various time points(P<0.01).However,no considerably differences were found in MAT-PLA-MS with matrine groups and control groups in various time points following the intravitreal injection(P>0.05).No obvious abnormal was seen under the slim lamp and ophthalmoscope through the study period.The changes of retinal ultrastructure were found from 1 through 28 days after injection of 4mg free-matrine,and slight retinal structural damage was seen from 7 through 28 days after injection of 6mg MAT-PLA-MS containing matrine.ConclusionThese results suggest that MAT-PLA-MS possesses good sustained release feature.MAT-PLA-MS containing matrine has less toxicity to retina than free-matrine after intravitreal injection.MAT-PLA-MS is an excellent drug delivery system.
