Objective To assess the outcome of vesicoureteral reflux after augmentation cystoplasty in patients with neurogenic bladder. Methods Between January 2008 and January 2014,a total of 25 patients, with a hypocompliant bladder associated with vesicoureteral reflux confirmed by video-urodynamics preoperatively, were recruited in this study. They all had undergone bladder augmentation with a generous detubularized segment of bowel at our institution. No effort had been made to correct existing reflux.Preoperatively assessment included urinalysis, kidney function tests,ultrasonography,video-urodynamic evaluation. All patients had various degrees of vesicoureteral reflux. The status of vesicoureteral reflux and bladder function were studied by video-urodynamic.Results Mean follow-up was 2.2 years (range 0.5 to 5.5 years). The video-urodynamics manifested a significant improvement of bladder capacity, diminution of intravesical pressure and resolution of reflux after bladder augmentation.Of the 25 patients,20 (80%) no longer had reflux,3 (12%) had improvement,2 (8%) had no change.Sixteen of 18 with grades Ⅰ to Ⅲ (89%),all refluxing units with grade Ⅳ to grade Ⅴ (100%) showed complete cessation of reflux.Symptomatic urinary infection was not found after surgery. Conclusions Augmentation enterocystoplasty without ureteral reimplantation is effective and adequate for patients with high pressure and hypocompliant neurogenic bladder. Therefore, ureteral reimplantation is not necessary underwent when augmentation enterocystoplasty is recommended to patients with neurogenic bladder and vesicoureteral reflux.

Objective The cyst excision is considered as priority management of the female paraurethral cyst. The purpose of this present study was to explore the feasibility and safety of the two-step excision with treatment for the female paraurethral cyst. Methods Twenty eight consecutive women with paraurethral cyst underwent paraurethral cyst removal were enrolled retrospectively in this study from October 1,2005 to August 12,2008 in Urology Department of West China Hospital. Results All cases were followedup from 6 months to 2 years,no recurrence occurred. No complications such as urethral stricture and urethralvaginal fistula were found. Conclusions The 2-step excision is the reference technique for cure of female paraurethral cyst.Urethra injury was avoided efficiently, because anatomical relationship between cyst and urethra could be clearer when the technique of 2-step excision was applied.

Objective To investigate the relationship between telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene expression and astrocyte activation. Methods Twenty neonatal 3-day-old male SD rats were used for culture of the astrocytes. The astrocytes were divided into Group A (activated,non-transfected astrocytes),Group B (activated, transfected astrocytes),Group C (unactivated astrocytes) and Group D (activated, empty plasmid transfected astrocytes) according to the random number table, with 5 rats per group. The cell proliferation rate in each group was detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) ;TERT expression by immunocytochemical method; expressions of TERT and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) genes by RT-PCR assay. Results Astrocytic proliferation ability in Group B lowered significantly as compared with that in Groups A,D and C (F =43.418,P < 0.01).Expressions of TERT and GFAP mRNAs in Groups A and D were significantly higher than those in Group B and C,and no significant difference was found between Groups A and D.Besides, there was a linear correlation between mRNAs expressions of both genes in Groups A and D (r =0.701,0.704,P < 0.01),while no significant linear correlation was observed in Groups B and C (r =0.260,P > 0.05).Expressions of TERT and GFAP proteins in Groups A and D were markedly higher than those in Groups B and C and no significant difference was found between Groups A and D.Conclusion TERT genes are involved in the activation of astrocytes and exert effect on promoting the activation of astrocytes.

In the present study, the effects of adriamycin on antioxidant enzymes, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase(SOD), and cardiac lesions were studied, furthermore, the protective influence of supplementation of copper and/or zinc on cardiac toxicity induced by adriamycin were investigated. Fourty four wistar rats weighing 130-160g were randomly divided into I-IV groups. All animals were fed on basic ration. The group I was given zinc sulphate 0.60mg/kg weight intraperitoneally once every third day for 49 days. The group I was given zinc 0.60mg + copper carbonate 0.14mg/kg weight intraperitoneally once every third day for 49 days. Groups I and I were given adriamycin 12mg/kg weight intraperitoneally. Group I was given adriamycin 12mg/kg weight intraperitoneally. Group IV was given physiological saline. The results suggested that the activities of GSH-Px and SOD were significantly decreased and cardiac lesions were characterized by numerous intracellular vesicles formed by dilation of the sarco-plasmic reticulum and lysis of myofiber accompanied by focal necrosis in group III. The activities of GSH-Px and SOD were apparently higher and cardiac lesions were much milder in the groups I and II, compared with those in the group VI.It may be concluded that trace elements (zinc and copper) can exert protective effects on cardiac lesions induced by adriamycin. Comparatively, much better results were observed in group I than that in group I.

AIM: In order to explore the mechanism of the GC - like effect of Tsiao Shaihutang (TSS), the down - regulation of glucocorticoid receptor and mRNA by TSS were studied. METHODS: GR sites were determined by receptor radio ligand binding assay method. At the same time, GR mRNA level was determined by quantitative reverse- transcriptive polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR) method. RESULTS: (1) GR sites and GR mRNA level were down - regulated significantly after GC, TSS (P < 0.01 ) treatment . (2) GR sites and GR mRNA level in GC plus TSS group were obviously higher than those in GC group (P < 0.01 ). CONCLUSIONS: These data suggested that TSS can significantly down- regulate GR and GR mRNA level.

Objective To study the radiographic findings of the chest in patients after open heart surgery and its evaluating methods. Methods 236 cases after open heart surgery were divided into 3 groups according to the date of the first postoperative chest films:0~3 d,4~7 d and 8 d or more. The findings on pre and postoperative chest films were compared in 7 aspects respectively. Results 8 typses of complications were detected including severe ones such as acute pulmonary edema, the low cardiac output syndrome and ARDS.The incidences of widening of the mediastinum, pleural effusion and pulmonary interstitial edema were lower in over 8 d group than those in the other two groups(?
