Objective HCC is one of many malignant tumors. The HCC markers are most urgently necdad. But the currently available markers lack sensitivity and specificity. A number of novel candidate markers have recently been introduced. Methods We performed a review of the literature of traditional and novel serum markers for hepatocellular cancer. Results Several promising new HCC markers have rencently been identified. They include single protein, complex proteomics features, and tumor-specific autoantibodies.The excitement about the new markers is tempered by the realization that none of them have yet met the most stringent criteria defined by the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN). Conclusion A new generation of HCC serum markers awaits validation in properly controlled clinical studies.

Objective To investigate the effects and mechanisms of extraction centipede extraction (CE) on grafting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in nude mice.Methods We set up model of Bel-7404 cells heterotopic grafting HCC in nude mice,and observed the tumor growth and metastasis after intragastric administration of CE (treatment group).Immunohistochemical methods were used to detect X-chromosome linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein(XIAP),bax gene,vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and angiopoietin-2(Ang-2) in tumor tissue.Results There was distinctive inhibitive effect of CE on in Bel-7404 cells heterotopic grafting HCC in nude mice.The staining cells population,staining intensity and the optical density(OD)of XIAP,VEGF and Ang-2 in the control group were higher than those in treatment group,but those of BAX were lower than that in treatment group,and there was significant difference between the 2 groups(P

Objective To detect the inhibitory effect of HSP27-siRNA on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells.Methods HCC cell QGY lines were cultured with HSP27-siRNA in a differtent range of concentration for various time periods.Cell activity was studied by MTT.The changes of cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed by FCM.RT-PCR was used to detect the effect of HSP27-siRNA on QGY cell expression of HSP27 mRNA.Western blot was used to detect the inhibition efficiency of HSP27-siRNA on HSP27protein.Results The proliferation of QGY cell was inhibited by HSP27-siRNA,and HSP27-siRNA decreased the expression of HSP27 protein.HSP27-siRNA inhibited the proliferation of QGY cell line and induced apoptosis in vitro,and its effect was both dose-and time-dependent.Conclusions HSP27-siRNA can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis of HCC cancer cell lines.Thus,it may become a method for effective treatment of HCC cancer.

Objective To study the expression of hMLH1, hMSH2 and their association with clinico-pathological characteristics in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Methods The expression of hMLH1 and hMSH2 in 37 HCC tissues was detected by SABC immunohistochemistry. Objective To explore the feasibility and indications of non-operative management for blunt liver injury.Methods The clinical data of 109 patients with blunt liver injury treated in recent 5 years were reviewed retrospectively.Results Among 109 cases, 35 were treated with nonoperation and 33(94.3 %) were cured; there were 3 cases(9.1 %) with complications among the 33 cases who were cured. The mean amount of blood transfusion, hospitalization days and expenses were (2.5?0.8)U,(13.2?1.3)d and (5 250?335) yuan, respectively. Seventy-four cases were treated with operation and 68(91.2 %)were cured, there were 14 cases (20.6 %) with complications among the 68 cases who were cured. Objective To investigate the cell cycle and mechanisms of HCC Bel-7404 cell line by treatment of extract of centipede ( ECP). Method Bel-7404 cell line was cultured in vitro. ECP was applied to the interference of the growth of Bel-7404 with different drug concentration. Cell cycles and apoptosis ratios of ECP group were detected by flow cytometry (FCM). To investigate the expression of apop-tosis related genes XIAP and Bax, we also detect HCC Bel-7404 cell line after 48 hours treated with ECP by immunohistochemical method. Result The results of FCM displayed that ECP in treatment group mainly retard cell cycle phase in G0/G1 after 48 hours. The ratios of G0/ G1 .proliferation index (PI) and apoptosis ratios were significantly different between treatment group and control group when the concentrations were different. It was also significantly different between treatment group and control group when the same concentration of ECP was used. It showed that XIAP gene expression decreased gradually while Bax gene expression increased with the increase of ECP concentration, and these were statistical significance in contrast to control group ( P <0.05). Conclusion ECP mainly retarded cell cycle phase of Bel-7404 in G0/G1, suppressed the proliferation, and could induce it to apoptosis. The inhibitory effect was time - concentration dependent. The mechanisms were due to promote Bax gene and inhibit XIAP gene expression in HCC Bel-7404 cell line.

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of regional pancreatic portal hypertension.(Methods) The clinical data of 11 cases of regional pancreatic portal hypertension were analysed(retrospectively).Results The 11 cases presented with gastric varices,splenomegaly,and pancreatic disease,but liver was normal.All cases underwent surgery,including splenectomy in 9 cases,splenectomy and distal pancreatectomy in 1 case,and other operation in 1 case.No serious complication was found postoperatively.Ten cases were followed up,no re-bleeding occurred postoperatively.Conclusions Regional pancreatic portal hypertension can be diagnosed correctly preoperatively and treated effectively.

Objective To assess the effect of intravenous infusion of octreotide in prevention of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods The clinical data of 74 cases of pancreaticoduodenectomy performed from January 1996 to July 2003 were retrospectively reviewed. These included 36 cases in control group in which octreotide was not adminstered,and 38 cases in octreotide group in which octreotide was administered by intravenous infusion of 0.5?g/( kg?h) for 12 hours per day from the operative day to postoperative day 7. The study parameters included clinical manifestation,drainage from peritioned cavity and the amount of drainage of pancreatic fluid. Results The drainage of pancreatic fluid at postoperative day 1,3,5 the in octreotide group was significantly less than those in the control group,the average hospital stay and the incidence of pancreatic fistula were significantly lower than those in the control group,and the drainage of pancreatic fluid was significantly increased after the withdrawal of octreotide in the octreotide group. Conclusions Intravenous infusion of octreotide can significantly lower the incidence of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy.
