1.Analysis of papers published in the journal of korean academy of conservative dentistry during the last ten years.

To understand the recent characteristics of the papers published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry(JKACD), All the papers in the JKACD of 1992 to 2001 were analyzed. A total of 513 papers were classified according to its type, field and subject of the study, school and the number of authors, references, and written language. The results were as follows; 1. According to the type of the paper, 506(98.6%) were original articles, 3(0.6%) were review articles, and 4(0.8%) were case reports. 2. Anual proportion of papers in the field of operative dentistry was similar to that of endodontics. 3. In the field of operative dentistry, esthetic restorative materials and bonding to tooth constituted major subjects of the studies. In the field of endodotics, pulp biology was prominent and canal shaping, endodontic microbiology and canal obturation were steadily reported. 4. According to author's school, similar number of papers were published in the field of operative dentistry and endodontics in general. However, some schools showed preponderances. 5. Most studies were done by two or more authors. Studies published by two authors were most. 6. Fifty(9.7%) papers were done in collaboration with workers of the other field. 7. Average number of references cited in the papers was 41.2, including domestic references of 1.8. 40.7% of the papers was shown to cite no domestic papers at all. 8. Twenty-eight(5.5%) papers were written in English, with increasing ratio.

6.Emergency response team activation in the outpatient clinic of a single dental teaching hospital in Korea: a retrospective study of 10 years' records.

BACKGROUND: To prepare for possible emergency situations during dental treatment, it is helpful to know how often and what kinds of emergencies may arise. This study set out to evaluate the incidences, causes, treatments, and outcomes of emergency situations in the outpatient clinic of a dental teaching hospital in Korea. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who had experienced an emergency situation and emergency response team activated in a selected outpatient clinic between November 2004 and November 2013. Specific information about the emergency cases was collected, including the patient characteristics and the frequency, types, treatments, and outcomes of the emergency situations. RESULTS: We identified 35 instances of emergency situations in 2,890,424 patients (incidence = 0.012 per 10,000 outpatients). The number of cases was as follows: 10 (28.6%) in the Department of Periodontics, 10 (28.6%) in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 6 (17.1%) in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, 4 (11.4%) in the Department of Prosthodontics, 2 (5.7%) in the Department of Conservative Dentistry, 2 (5.7%) in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, and 1 (2.9%) in the Department of Orthodontics. Three (8.6%) of the emergency situations arose before treatment, 22 (62.9%) during treatment, 7 (20.0%) after treatment, and 2 (5.7%) in a patient's guardian. CONCLUSIONS: In accordance with the growing elderly population and more aggressive dental procedures, the number of emergency situations may increase in the future. We recommend that clinicians keep in mind airway management and the active control of emergency situations.

The dental operative microscope has been widely employed in the field of dentistry, particularly in endodontics and operative dentistry, resulting in significant advancements in the effectiveness of root canal therapy, endodontic surgery, and dental restoration. However, the improper use of this microscope continues to be common in clinical settings, primarily due to operators' insufficient understanding and proficiency in both the features and established operating procedures of this equipment. In October 2019, Professor Jingping Liang, Vice Chairman of the Society of Cariology and Endodontology, Chinese Stomatological Association, organized a consensus meeting with Chinese experts in endodontics and operative dentistry. The objective of this meeting was to establish a standard operation procedure for the dental operative microscope. Subsequently, a consensus was reached and officially issued. Over the span of about four years, the content of this consensus has been further developed and improved through practical experience.

8.Evaluation of the Beam Quality of Intraoral X-ray Equipments using Intraoral Standard Films.

PURPOSE: This study was to evaluate the beam quality of intraoral X-ray equipments used at Yonsei University Dental Hospital(YUDH) using the half value layer(HVL) and the characteristic curve of intraoral standard X-ray film. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was done using the intraoral X-ray equipments used at each clinical department at YUDH. Aluminum filter was used to determine the HVL. Intraoral standard film was used to get the characteristic curve of each intraoral X-ray equipment. RESULTS: Most of the HVLs of intraoral X-ray equipments were higher than the least recommended thickness, but the REX 601 model used at the operative dentistry department and the X-707 model used at the pediatric dentistry department had HVLs lower than the recommended thickness. The slopes of the characteristic curves of films taken using the PANPAS 601 model and REX 601 model at operative dentistry department, the X-70S model of prosthodontic dentistry department, and the REX 601 model at the student clinic were relatively low. CONCLUSION: HVL and the characteristic curve of X-ray film can be used to evaluate the beam quality of intraoral X-ray equipment. In order to get the best X-ray films with the least radiation exposure to patients and best diagnostic information in clinical dentistry, X-ray equipment should be managed in the planned and organized fashion.

9.Consensus recommendations from Chinese experts on the standard operation procedure of dental operative microscope in endodontics and operative dentistry.

Dental operative microscope has been wildly used in endodontics and operative dentistry for many years. Many progresses have been made by using operative microscope in improving the outcomes of root canal therapy, endodontic surgery and operative dentistry. However, in clinical practice, improper use of the dental operative microscope is not uncommon, the reason related to which is the operator's lack of understanding and mastering not only the properties but also the standard operative procedure of the dental operative microscope. To this end, in October 2019, the vice chairman of the Society of Cariology and Endodontology, Chinese Stomatological Association, professor Liang Jingping, organized a group of professional experts in this field, convened a meeting about the standard operative procedure of dental operative microscope. Experts at the meeting had a very heated discussion and the consensuses were reached.

10.Study on the urgent matter of school-based dental preventive program in Vietnam

The school-based dental preventive program has been developed strongly in many areas of the whole country. Especially, the program has been covered at level of province such as Ninh B×nh and Nam §Þnh. Its preventive results were very high. Dental caries were reduced and periodontal status is improved. Through the study of fluoride concentration in the natural water, we determine that the use of fluoride mouthwash for children at school is necessary to reduce dental caries.
