Complex odontoma is a relatively rare dental dysplasia. In particular, a complex odontoma with dentigerous cyst is seldom observed. A case of complex odontoma with dentigerous cyst is reported in this paper.

dentigerous cyst. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a comparative immunohistochemical expression of Ki-67 as a proliferative marker in the OKC associated with or without impacted tooth. In addition, we have also been investigated with regard to the proliferative activity comparing the unilocular and multilocular varieties of the OKC. The material for this study consisted of thirty-two cases of OKCs (OKC with impacted tooth, n=16; OKC without impacted tooth, n=16) and ten cases of dentigerous cysts as a comparison. The results revealed that the proliferative activity of OKCs with impacted tooth was higher than those of dentigerous cysts. However, there was no correlation between Ki-67 immunoreactivity and association with or without impacted tooth in 32 cases of OKCs. In addition, this present study showed that there was no correlation between the unilocular and multilocular varieties of the OKCs in proliferative activity.]]>

5.Huge dentigerous cyst of maxilla: one case report.
Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(9):660-661
Dentigerous cyst of maxilla is a rare disease in department of otorhinolaryngology. More than 2 week persistent infection of the cortex that is surrounded by dense bone and then begins absorption causing the formation of dentigerous cyst. One tooth germ or multiple tooth germs can be seen in the cysts, mostly in the third molar area and canine area. However, it is extremely rare that so huge dentigerous cyst of maxilla, in which include three additional teeth, that is why we report it.

Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2011;37(3):161-168
PURPOSE: The odontogenic keratocysts demonstrated a high recurrence rate and a biologically aggressive nature. This might be due to unknown factors inherent in the epithelium or enzymatic activity in the fibrous wall. Bcl-2 protein is characterized by its ability to inhibit apoptosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression and distribution of bcl-2 in the OKCs, its possible relationship with the tumorous characteristics, such as the aggressive nature and high recurrence rate, and its usefulness to differentiate OKCs from dentigerous cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Formalin fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections of 53 OKCs, and 44 dentigerous cyst were immunohistochemically analyzed quantitatively for the immunoreactivity of the bcl-2 protein with i-solution. RESULTS: More Bcl-2 expression was observed in the OKCs (mean34.387%) than dentigerous cyst (mean11.144%) with statistical significance (P<0.001). Seventeen and 15 of the 32 OKCs in this study showed positivity in the basal layer and basal/suprabasal layers, respectively. In dentigerous cyst, 2 of 3 showed positivity in the basal cell layer. CONCLUSION: Considering that bcl-2 over expression may lead to the increased survival of epithelial cells, this study demonstrated a possible relationship between the aggressive nature of OKC and the intrinsic growth potential of its lining epithelium. Furthermore, the basal/suprabasal distribution of bcl-2 positive cells was observed in some OKCs, which might have a significant impact on the behavior of cysts. The bcl-2 expression of OKCs can be useful for differentiating OKCs from dentigerous cysts.

7.Pericoronal radiolucency associated with incomplete crown.
Imaging Science in Dentistry 2013;43(4):295-301
The author experienced 8 cases of pericoronal radiolucency involving an incomplete tooth crown that had not developed to form the cemento-enamel junction, and the underdeveloped crown sometimes appeared to be floating within the radiolucency radiographically. The first impression was that these cystic lesions had odontogenic keratocysts, but half of them turned out to be dentigerous cysts histopathologically. There has been no report concerning odontogenic cysts involving an incompletely developed crown. The purpose of this paper is to report that dentigerous cysts may develop before the completion of the cemento-enamel junction of a developing crown.

Ameloblastoma is a common odontogenic tumor originating from the dental lamina, reduced dental epithelium and rests of Malassez, and represents 10% of all odontogenic tumors of the jaw. Unicystic ameloblastoma is normally encountered in young patients, and often occurs in the mandible, and is particularly associated with an impacted tooth. We encountered an unicystic ameloblastoma arising from a dentigerous cyst after the treatment of a radiolucent lesion on the mandible.

Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2009;35(6):462-466
PURPOSE: Dentigerous cyst is the most common intra-osseous lesion of the jaw. Dentigerous cysts can cause delays in eruption of the affected permanent tooth in mixed dentition. It has been suggested that the affected permanent tooth could be erupted spontaneously after the dentigerous cyst was enucleated. But in some cases, orthodontic treatment or autotransplantation technique is known to be required. This study reviews previously performed prognoses of affected permanent teeth, which will lead to a more efficient treatment plan. PATIENTS AND METHODS: With 28 patients who have undergone cyst enucleation and 10 patients who have undergone autotransplantation, the prognosis of permanent teeth was observed. RESULTS: After cyst enucleation, spontaneous eruption of a permanent tooth was observed in 56.3% patients, orthodontic treatment was performed in 25% patients. The success rate of autotransplantation was 60.0 %. DISCUSSION: The first choice for treatment of dentigerous cyst in mixed dentition is to guide spontaneous eruption of permanent teeth. For cases without enough eruption space, the orthodontic treatment should be considered. Autotransplantation should be considered when the spontaneous eruption is not expected. It should be considered that the rate of successful autotransplantation is decreased on maxilla anterior area.
