The purpose of this study is to develope new dental color-space system. Twelve kinds of dental composites and one kind of dental porcelain were used in this study. Disk samples (15 mm in diameter, 4 mm in thickness) of used materials were made and sample's CIE L*a*b* value was measured by Spectrocolorimeter (MiniScan XE plus, Model 4000S, diffuse/8degrees viewing mode, 14.3 mm Port diameters, Hunter Lab. USA). The range of measured color distribution was analyzed. All the data were applied in the form of T### which is expression unit in CNU Cons Dental Color Chart. The value of L* lies between 80.40 and 52.70. The value of a* are between 10.60 and 3.60 and b* are between 28.40 and 2.21. The average value of L* is 67.40, and median value is 67.30. The value of a* are 2.89 and 2.91 respectively. And for the b*, 14.30 and 13.90 were obtained. The data were converted to T### that is the unit count system in CNU-Cons Dental Color Chart. The value of L* is converted in the first digit of the numbering system. Each unit is 2.0 measured values. The second digit is the value of a* and is converted new number by 1.0 measured value. For the third digit b* is replaced and it is 2.0 measured unit apart. T555 was set to the value of L* ranging from 66.0 to 68.0, value of a* ranging from 3 to 4 and b* value ranging from 14 to 16.

ABSTRACT Duration of orthodontic treatment becomes major concern. The present study compared shear bond strength (SBS) and adhesive remnant index (ARI) values of different adhesive systems with different application methods on rebonding process of retrieved orthodontic brackets. Eighty premolar teeth were equally divided into five groups. Transbond XT (TXT) which belongs to total-etch system was used in Group 1 as the control group. Nova Compo-SF (NC) and Vertise Flow (VF) (Kerr Dental, Italy) which are self-adhering flowable composites were used in Group 2 (NC+etch) and Group 3 (VF+etch) respectively with additional etching before application. Group 4 (NC) and Group 5 (VF) were used by following instructions of each brand. The brackets were debonded with a bracket removing plier and rebonded with the same procedures after sandblasting of the bracket and surface cleaning of the enamel. SBS and ARI were measured for each sample. Comparison between all groups was performed by Kruskal-Wallis test and chisquare test. The highest SBS was observed in NC+etch (median = 11.44, mean = 13.49±9.42), followed by NC (median = 10.17, mean = 11.35±6.55), TXT (median = 6.36, mean = 8.06±6.33), VF+etch (median = 5.68, mean = 6.75±4.58), and VF (median = 2.62, mean = 2.92±2.57), respectively. ARI 1 was observed in 81.3% of TXT whereas 62.5% of NC+etch. ARI 1, 2, and 3 were equally distributed in VF+etch group (31.3%). ARI 5 was observed in 37.5% of NC and 62.5% of VF. Analyses referred to statistically significant differences between five groups regarding both SBS and ARI (p < 0.001). As NC showed the highest SBS on rebonding process, it can be a promising alternative to TXT which is the gold standard.

OBJECTIVETo survey and compare the thickness-change of different thickness thermoplastic materials under different test condition and make sure the relationship between the thickness-change and the material initial thickness in order to provide a guide in selecting the suitable thickness thermoplastic in practice.

METHODSTo choose Biolon, the thickness include 1.0 mm, 0.75 mm, 0.5 mm. Used Electron Vernier caliper to measure the thickness-change of different thickness thermoplastic materials under different processing mode. The data was analyzed by SPSS 10.0.

RESULTSAfter thermoforming the thickness of thermoplastic became thinner, the thickness of Biolon 0.75 mm decreased by 0.14 mm, Biolon 1.0 mm decreased by 0.22 mm and Biolon 0.5 mm decreased by 0.14 mm. After saliva immersion the thickness became thicker. The thickness of Biolon 0.75 mm increased by 0.02 mm, Biolon 1.0 mm increased by 0.03 mm and Biolon 0.5 mm increased by 0.02 mm.

CONCLUSION1)The influence of different processing mode to the thickness-change had relation to the material initial thickness. 2)The Biolon 0.75 mm had certain superiority in thickness stability compared to the homogeneous brand through the above research.

Dental impressions are widely used in the field of oral restoration. The materials are used for making impression in oral cavity. In order to measure the thickness of impression for reference in clinic, the real impressions are taken as the object for studying. Through optical method, charge-coupled device (CCD) is used for collecting the grey image of cutting section of the impressions which are located in the same plane with steel dividing ruler. According to convert relationship between dividing ruler and pixels collecting grey image, the thickness of impression specimens can be obtained. The results show that the optical method used for measuring thickness is feasible to the task and the precision can reach micro dimension. The experiment method and technique can also be provided for measuring thickness of similar tissue engineering materials.

OBJECTIVEThis study aimed at investigating bio-tribological property of titanium opposite to teeth as a base of clinical application.

METHODSUnder a modified fretting machine, wear tests on human natural teeth were carried out in artificial saliva conditions against to pure titanium. The dynamic frictional process and wear mechanisms were investigated by means of Nene-2, MVK-H12, TALYSURF6, OM, LSM, SEM, EDX.

RESULTSThe coefficient of friction exhibited a variation pattern of longs. The wear mechanism of natural tooth was detected as micro-cut and denaturation of dental texture and the wear depth of Ti/teeth was 20.33 + 2.86 microm, the wear depth of Ti/Ti being 38.00 + 5.88 microm (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe natural tooth has a good tribological behavior, matching the friction behavior of pure titanium. Over occlusal force during masticate process and para-function should be avoided. When we chose dental materials, wear resistance should be taken into account.

This in-vitro study aimed to evaluate and compare the marginal leakage and penetration ability of a moisture-tolerant (Embrace WetBondTM) and a conventional (ClinproTM) resin-based sealants under three different enamel surface preparations (acid etched, acid etched and saliva contaminated and bur preparation and acid etched). One hundred and twenty extracted caries free human premolars teeth were cleaned and randomly divided into six groups of equal numbers, according to the type of sealants used and surface preparations. All the sealed teeth were subjected to thermocycling and immersed in a methylene blue dye. Each tooth was then embedded into acrylic resin before it was sectioned into four sections per tooth. Marginal leakage and unfilled surface area (indicating penetration depth of resin) were then measured using an optical 3D measurement device (Alicona Infinite Focus®). Both sealants exhibited comparable proportion of marginal leakage on acid etched only surfaces. Moisture-tolerant sealant showed the least proportion of marginal leakage on bur prepared and etched surfaces. Presence of saliva has detrimental effect on adhesion of both sealants. Nevertheless, depth of penetration of sealant into the fissures is comparable with both sealant types irrespective of the surface preparations.
