1.Correlation between sagittal condylar guidance angles obtained using radiographic and protrusive occlusal record methods.

PURPOSE: This study compared the SCGAs measured in three types of radiographic images (panoramic, CBCT panoramic-section, and CBCT cross-section images) with values measured using the protrusive occlusal record. MATERIALS AND METHODS: SCGAs were measured in 20 patients on a semi-adjustable articulator using the protrusive interocclusal record. Panoramic and CBCT images were obtained. SCGAs were measured on CBCT images in panoramic and cross sections. In all of the radiographic images, SCGAs were measured using the Frankfort horizontal reference line and the mean curvature line. The most-superior and most-inferior points of the curvatures were identified to determine the mean curvature line. Each measurement was performed twice by two operators independently. The data were analyzed by the t-test, Pearson's correlation test, and Cronbach's α using SPSS (α=.05). RESULTS: The mean right and left SCGAs were as follows: protrusive occlusal record (30.1 and 30.2 degrees, respectively), panoramic (38.9 and 38.7 degrees), CBCT panoramic sections (35.4 and 36.8 degrees), and CBCT cross sections (35.3 and 36.1 degrees). The SCGAs differed significantly among the groups. The Pearson coefficients for the correlations with the protrusive occlusal record measurements on the left and right sides were as follows: panoramic (0.834 and 0.791, respectively), CBCT panoramic-section (0.918 and 0.837), and CBCT cross-section (0.918 and 0.845) images. CONCLUSION: Strong correlations were found between SCGAs obtained using radiographic images and the protrusive occlusal record.

4.Implant impression using closed mouth impression technique: a case report.

Closed mouth impression technique by using bite tray is preferred for single tooth impression taking. However, for implant impression taking, open mouth impression technique by using single arch tray is generally used whether it is for single implant or multiple implant. Closed mouth impression technique by using bite tray can save time and materials. It also decreases the chance of error occurrence when a model is mounted on an articulator. In this case report, we tried to show a satisfying result of fabricating single implant fixed prosthodontics after bite tray impression taking by using two different copings for closed mouth impression.

5.The angulation and inclination of individual tooth to FH plane in normal occlusion.

The purpose of this study was to obtain the angulation and inclination of FACC of all teeth to FH plane. Study models of 31 persons with normal occlusion were selected and mounted on the semiadjustable articulator for this study. Using TARG. with a little modified method, the angulation and inclination of FACC of all teeth to FH plane were measured and then the measurements were analyzed statistically. The obtained results were as follows. Mean, standard deviation, maximum value, and minimum value of the angulation and inclination of FACC of upper and lower teeth were obtained. The FACC in both upper and lower arch was progressively lingually-inclined from anterior teeth to posterior teeth. In the angulations of FACC of upper teeth, central and lateral incisor showed similar value. Yet, the FACC of the rest was progressively distally-angulated -from the canine to posterior teeth. The FACC in lower arch was progressively mesially-angulated from anterior teeth to posterior teeth. The angulation and inclination of FACC of any tooth in both upper and lower teeth correlated strongly and positively with the angulation and inclination of FACC of adjacent tooth.

6.A study on the interrelationship of the condylar path, anterior occlusion and craniofacial morphology.

The stable occlusion in function is thought as important as the esthetics in form, in order to preserve the healthy oral condition. The stable occlusion requires the harmony between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quantitative relationship between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors, estimating statistically the measurement of the condylar paths by Pantronic and those of the anterior guidance factors, craniofacial morphology by roentgenocephalometry in 46 relatively good functional occlusion. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The measurements of the protrusive condylar path inclinations were 36.41degrees in the right, 35.63degrees in the left, 36.28degrees in the mean. The measurements of Fisher's angles were 8.17degrees in the right, 6.43degrees in the left, 6.87degrees in the mean. 2. The anterior facial height and the lower anterior facial height made a negative correlation with the protrusive condylar path inclination. 3. The articular eminence angle relative to the artificial articulator plane showed a positive correlation with the maximum protrusive condylar path. 4. SNA and SNB made a negative correlation with the articular eminence angle, and AAP-GoMe, AAP-DcGn, the facial height ratio had a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 5. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope, overbite and the ratio of overbite to overjet showed a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 6. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope, overbite, and the ratio of overbite to overjet made a positive correlation with the inclination of occlusal plane, functional occlusal plane. 7. Overbite and the ratio of overbite to overjet had a positive correlation with the angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope. 8. The anterior guidance factors were more influenced by the mean protrusive condylar path inclination and the maximum Fisher's angle, and the regression equations of those were made.

7.2 Phase Treatment Without Preoperative Orthodontics In Skeletal Class III Malocclusion.

This article describes a new approach in the treatment of skeletal class III malocclusion. This new approach, which means 2 phase treatment without preoperative orthodontics, includes orthognathic surgery first, followed by postoperative orthodontic treatment. A this article together with introduction of a newly modified articulator. Based on this new concept, we have treated more than 30 patients of skeletal class III malocclusion since 1994 and confirmed its advantages over the old method.

8.A study on the difference of the sagittal condylar guidance by semi-adjustable articulator and axiograph.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: In the Protar articulator, the models are almost parallel with the Camper's plane. The ultrasonic-based ARCUSdigma system is basis for the determination of dynamic function parameters with so-called "articulator related registration". PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the sagittal condylar guidance angles found by use of the wax protrusive records in a semi-adjustable articulator(KaVo Protar 7) with those found by use of the Axiograph(ARCUSdigma). 83 volunteers with intact dentition participated in this study after obtainment of informed consent. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The sagittal condylar guidance angles were measured and estimated statistically by semi-articulator and Axiograph. All the readings were in degrees. No control was used in this project. To test whether there was a significant difference between the 2 independent samples, paired t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test were carried out(p=.05). RESULTS: 1. The mean results for the wax protrusive records were as follow: right side (32.65 degrees, SD 16.48); left side (33.27 degrees, SD 17.49). 2. The mean results for the Axiograph were as follow: right side (32.26 degrees, SD 7.00); left side (33.07 degrees, SD 7.58). 3. There was no statistical difference on the wax protrusive records and Axiograph(p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Both methods of wax protrusive records and Axiograph are clinically acceptable for measuring the sagittal condylar guidance angles in semi-adjustable articulators.

9.A comparative study to measure the condylar guidance by the radiographic and clinical methods.

PURPOSE: The study was conducted to compare the radiographic and clinical methods of measuring the horizontal condylar guidance (HCG) values. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The condylar guidance was measured using the radiographic (CT scan) and three clinical methods i.e. the wax protrusive records, Lucia jig record and intraoral central bearing device in 12 patients aged between 20-40 years irrespective of sex. The records were taken and transferred on the semi-adjustable articulator to record the HCG values. The CT scan was taken for 3D reconstruction of the mid facial region. Frankfort horizontal plane (FHP) and a line extending from the superior anterior most point on the glenoid fossa to the most convex point on the apex of articular eminence (AE) was marked on the CT scan. An angle between these two lines was measured on both right and left sides to obtain condylar inclination angle. Three interocclusal protrusive wax and jig records were taken and transferred to the semi adjustable articulator. Three readings were recorded on each side. Similarly the records were taken and transferred to the same articulator using the intra oral central bearing device to record the readings. RESULTS: The statistical analysis showed insignificant differences in the HCG values between the right and left sides [(P=.589 (CT), P=.928 (wax), P=.625 (jig), P=.886 (tracer)]. The clinical methods provided low Pearsons correlation values [(R = 0.423 (wax), R = 0.354 (jig), R = 0.265 (tracer)] for the right as well as the left sides when compared with the CT values. Among the clinical methods, jig and wax method showed strong level of association which is statistically significant while the intra-oral tracer showed weak association with the other two methods. CONCLUSION: The right and left HCG values were almost similar. The CT scan showed higher HCG values than the clinical methods and among the clinical methods, values obtained from all the methods were comparable.

10.Application of ARCUS digma I, II systems for full mouth reconstruction: a case report.

Transferring condylar and anterior guidance on an articulator is essential to the diagnosis of a patient for full mouth reconstruction. In this clinical report, ARCUS digma I system was used to measure inherent condylar guidance of a patient requiring full mouth reconstruction in preoperate treatment, and the patients was given provisional restoration based on a functional anterior guidance. Then, ARCUS digma II system was used to mount the final casting model on an articulator, and the definitive prosthesis was placed in the patient. An esthetic and functionally proper clinical result regarding inherent condylar path of the patient was observed, and results from comparison of the two systems are given in this case.
