A method has been developed for the determination of stimulants in products of nutritional supplement. The stimulants in the samples were extracted with a solution of sodium hydroxide and then cleaned up by liquid -liquid partitioning.The extracted stimulants were analyzed by gas chromatography with HP-5capilary column and detected by the Nitrogen-Phosphorus detector (NPD). The results showed that the method had good purifying effect with high sensitivity. The operation was also simple and quick. The detection limit ranged from 5 to 40 ?g/L and the average recovery rate was 75.4%～143.1% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 0.27% to 5.5%.

Objective: The effects of purple-fleshed sweet potato anthocyanin (PSA) on anti-oxidation and anti-aging were investigated. Methods: The effects of different doses of PSA(100、 500、1000 mg/kg bw)on the serum T-AOC were investigated in aged mice after administration for 3 d, 10 d and 18 d. The content of MDA, the activity of serum SOD and blood GSH-Px were measured, and compared with those in Vit E and control group after 30 d. Result: PSA significantly increased the serum T-AOC in aged mice, and this increment was higher when given longer. PSA significantly decreased MDA and enhanced SOD and GSH-Px activities. The efficiency on antioxidative capacity of aged mice at PSA 100 mg/kg bw was equivalent to that of vitamin E at the same amount (100 mg/kg bw). The antioxidation state of 13 mo mice given PSA at 1000 mg/kg bw was near to that of 4 mo mice. Conclusion: PSA has marked effect of antioxidation and can delay aging.

OBJECTIVE To introduce a new type of tracheal cannula which has the top hole and can seal the outlet for patient with severe brain injury after tracheotomy. METHODS Patients with severe brain injury after tracheotomy were divided into test group using the new type of tracheal cannula(25 cases) and control group using the cuffed Portex tube(25 cases).The incidence,the onset time and the time for control of pulmonary infection were compared between the two groups. RESULTS In the test group,the incidence of pulmonary infection was 52%(13 cases),the onset time was(3?1.3) days and the time for control was(5?1.7) days;in the control group,the above indices were 84%(21 cases),(3?1.5) days and(12?2.2) days separately. CONCLUSIONS The new type of tracheal cannula which has the top hole and can seal the outlrt is better than the cuffed Portex tube in the prevention and treatment of pulmonary infection after tracheotomy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the chemical groups changing in rat kidney with regard to fatal hyperthermia by Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIR-MSP) and to provide a new method to diagnose fatal hyperthermia. METHODS: Rats were sacrificed by hyperthermia, brainstem injury, massive hemorrhage and asphyxiation and divided into groups. The renal samples were dissected immediately after death. The data of infrared spectroscopy in glomerulus were measured by FTIR-MSP. RESULTS: The absorbances of 3290, 3070, 2850, 1540 and 1396 cm(-1) significantly increased (P < 0.05), and the ratios of Al650/A3290 and A1650/A1540 significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in group of hyperthermia. CONCLUSION FTIR-MSP can analyze the changes of chemical groups of kidney as an auxiliary diagnosis for discriminating hyperthermia with other causes of death.

In this study, daphnetin and its major metabolites in the intestinal wall of rats were identified by liquid chromatography and quatrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry. Perfusion fluid of duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon were collected separately for 2 hours from the rat intestine following perfusion with daphnetin. The metabolites of daphnetin in the perfusion fluid of different intestine segments were analyzed by the liquid chromatography and quatrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry. It is shown that the parent drug daphnetin and four metabolites were found in the perfusion fluid of duodenum, jejunum and ileum. However, no metabolites were found in the colon. Among the four metabolites, two daphnetin sulfates (m/z 257) were first discovered as the phase II metabolites of daphnetin in rats, which revealed a new way of daphnetin metabolism in rats.

Objective To explore the clinicopathological features, diagnosis and therapy for pancreatic mutinous noncystic adenocareinoma(MNAC). Methods Eleven MNAC cases treated in our hospital were studied retrospectively. The clinical and pathologic data were reviewed. Results Of the 11 patients, 6 were male and 5 were female. The age ranged from 47 to 76 years with average of 60. 5 years.The main complains included upper abdominal discomfort in 8 cases, abdominal mass in 1 case and jaundice in 2 cases. CA199 serum test was positive in all patients and 5-fold high above normal value in 6 cases. The preoperative radiography of MNAC was usually not specific. Tumors located in the head in 5 cases and in the body and tail of the pancreas in 6 cases. The diameter of the tumor was 4 - 11 cm with average of 6. 5 cm.All cases underwent operation, with radical resection in 2 cases. Liver or abdominal metastasis was found in 5 cases. Postoperative immunohistochemistry showed that MUC-1 was negative in all patients. MUC-2,PCNA and Ki-67 were positive in all patients. All 9 cases that were followed-up died within 5 -22 months,with an average survival time of 10 months. Conclusions The diagnosis of MNAC depends on pathology. Its prognosis is poor.

Objective To evaluate the mechanical homogeneity pattern of isolated carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima on longitudinal axis view using ultrasonic velocity vector imaging.Methods Fourty six patients with 48 isolated plaques were undergone the high frequency ultrasound scanning,the real-time two-dimensional longitudinal-axis gray scale view at the maximal thickness of the plaque was obtained in three complete cardiac cycles.A dedicated velocity vector imaging(ⅤⅤⅠ)workstation was used for the off-line dynamic two-dimensional gray-scale image analysis and mechanics parameter(i.e.,the peak strain and the absolute difference of the peak strain)assessment at the sites of the upper,middle and down stream separately.The length and direction distribution of the velocity vectors at the carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima were observed.Wilcoxon test was utilized for the comparison of the peak strain and the absolute difference of the peak strain between two sites.Results The chaos phenomenon of velocity vector distribution at the sites of plaque intima occurred significantly differed from those uniform velocity vectors at the reference sites.According to the two groups of the higher strain value side and the lower strain value side on the upper stream and the down stream of the plaque intima,the peak strain at the higher strain value side was significantly higher than the lower strain value side(P=0.000).There was a significantly difference between the absolute difference of peak strain from the higher strain value side to the middle stream point of the plaque intima and the absolute difference of peak strain from the lower strain value side to the higher strain value side of the plaque intima(P＜0.017).Conclusions The length and direction distribution of velocity vectors of the isolated carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima on longitudinal axis view are uneven,the mechanical heterogeneity pattern exists at the plaque intima and could be visualized and quantitatively evaluated using ultrasonic velocity vector imaging.

Seven terpenoids and three sterols were isolated from the methanol extracts of the aerial parts of Ricinus communis by chromatography methods and their structures were identified by spectra analysis as ficusic acid( 1), phytol(2), callyspinol(3) , lupeol(4), 30-norlupan-3beta-ol-20-one(5) , lup-20(29)-en-3beta,15alpha-diol(6) , acetylaleuritolic acid( 7), stigmast4-en-3-one(8) , stig-mast-4-en-6beta-ol-3-one(9) , and stigmast4-en-3,6-dione(10). Compounds 1-3 and 5-10 were obtained from this species for the first time and 5 and 6 showed significant inhibitive activity and good selectivity against 11beta-HSD of mouse and human in vitro. Objective To compare the effect of kidney-tonifying blood-activating recipe (KBR) and Aescuven Forte Tablets ( AFT) in improving the sperm quality of varicocele-induced male sterility, thus to optimize the therapeutic therapy for varicocele-induced male sterility. Methods A total of 102 varicocele-induced male sterility with abnormal sperm parameters after conservative treatment were randomized into KBR group (N=53) and AFT group ( N=49) . KBR group was given KBR plus natural vitamin E and AFT group was given AFT plus natural vitamin E, and the treatment lasted for 8 continuous weeks. Before and after treatment, the quality of seminal fluid was analyzed, sperm quantization parameters such as total number of sperm (TNS) , total number of progressive motility sperm ( TNPS) , total number of normal form sperm ( TNNS) and total number of nor mal form and progressive motility sperm ( TNNPS) were observed, and the improvement rate of sperm quantization parameter was compared. Results (1) Before treatment, the differences of TNS, TNPS, TNNS and TNNPS were insignificant between the two groups ( P>0.05) . After treatment, TNNS was not improved in AFT group ( P>0.05) , but TNS, TNPS, TNNPS were much improved in both groups ( P<0.01 compared with those before treatment) . The improvement of KBR group was superior to that of AFT group ( P<0.05) . ( 2) The improvement rate for TNS, TNPS, TNNS, TNNPS was 90.57%, 79.25%, 67.92%, 77.36%in KBR group, and was 75.51%, 73.47%, 28.57%, 61.22% in AFT group respectively. The improvement rate for TNS and TNNS in KBR group was superior to that in AFT group ( P<0.05 or P<0.01) . Conclusion Varicocele-induced male sterility patients usually have the syndrome of kidney deficiency and blood stasis, so KBR, which has the function of tonifying kidney and activating blood, has synergistic action on the effect of AFT in improving sperm quality of varicocele-induced male sterility patients.
