AIM: This study was designed to investigate the inhibition of tanshinone ⅡA on C6 glioma cell line and its mechanism. METHODS: MTT was used to measure the levels of the proliferation of C6 cultured with tanshinone ⅡA at different concentrations. The effects of tanshinone ⅡA on cell cycle of C6 were observed by FCM. The change of DNA was observed by Sepharose electrophoresis. The expression of proto-oncogenes c-myc was measured by RT-PCR. RESULTS: The proliferation of C6 was obviously inhibited by tanshinone ⅡA in a dose-dependent manner. The outcome of FCM showed that the apoptotic cell rate was 7.7%, when cultured with tanshinone ⅡA at 1.0 mg/L for 3 days. The apoptotic cell rate was 21.6%, when cultured with tanshinone ⅡA at 2.0 mg/L in 3 days. CONCLUSION: Tanshinone ⅡA inhibits the proliferation of C6 cells, induces apoptosis and inhibits the expression of proto-oncogene c-myc.

Objective To observe and scale knee joint space of the patients who suffered adults' Kaschin-Beck disease (KBD) in Shangzhi City of Heilongjiang Province in order to acquire basic knowledge for upcoming intervention trial. Methods Clinical test was proceeded in adults aged above 40 in Guanghui Village of Shangzhi City in 2007. In typical patients, bilateral knee X-ray was taken and knee joint space was scaled. Three points were chosen on inner and outer epicondyle of each knee and results were recorded. Results There were 307 peoples over the age of 40 in the village. Two hundred eighty-two accepted clinical test, in a rate of 91.9%. Eighty out of 282 suffered KBD, accounting for 28.4%. When the patients' condition became more serious, measurements from flank, middle, inside points on outer epicondyle of joint space presented a narrowing trend [degree Ⅰ: (5.85±0.17), (4.84±0.17), (4.36±0.18)mm; degree Ⅱ: (5.11±0.43), (4.24±0.34), (3.48±0.28)nun; degree Ⅲ: (3.59± 0.78), (3.10±0.56), (2.14±0.62)mm; Fflank,middle,inside= 6.547,5.372,10.302, all P < 0.05], but those on inner epicondyle of joint space did not[degree Ⅰ:(3.66±0.17), (3.47±0.17), (3.73±0.18)mm; degree Ⅱ:(3.55± 0.34), (3.54±0.29), (4.35±0.35)mm; degree Ⅲ: (3.19±0.72), (3.92±0.66), (4.51±0.72)ram; Finside,middle,flank= 0.351,0.356,1.883, all P > 0.05]. Joint space < 5.00 mm were found in 618, among which 363 were measured on inner epieondyle, obviously greater than those measured on outer epicondyle of joint space(255), the difference being statistically signifieant(χ2=9.59, P<0.05). Conclusions Adult cases of KBD occur in Guanghui Village. Knee joint space of adult patients narrows obviously, the more serious, the narrower, especially occurring more obviously on outer epicondyle, but frequently on inner epicondyle.

Objective To investigate the com and pepper fluorine in Zhenxiong county of Yunnan province, as well as the change of com and pepper fluorine after baked by coal, clay-mixed with cual for a relatively long-term, in order to provide a scientific basis for reducing fluorine intake. Methods The endemic areas of Yile, Wufeng's Songlinwan, Tangfang and Wufeng's Wugu in Zhenxiong county, and a non-endemic area Xiaguan in Dali city were selected as study sites. Ten samples of fresh corn and pepper were collected in each region, and fluorine was determined using acid leaching/potentiometry freshly and after baking or drying for 10 days or 4 months, respectively. Results The fluorine content of local fresh corn in Xiaguan of Dali city and Yile,Wufeng's Songlinwan, Tangfang, Wufeng's Wugu in Zhenxiong county were (1.31 ± 0.13),(1.65 ± 0.64),(1.92 ±0.37), (2.32 ± 0.49), (1.98 ± 0.66)mg/kg, respectively, and there were statistically significant differences across the regions(H = 27.871, P ＜ 0.05). The fluorine content of corn samples after baking or drying for 4 months were ( 1.82 ± 0.17), (26.43 ± 12.03), (39.27 ± 8.09), ( 14.27 ± 4.37), ( 14.33 ± 1.73)mg/kg, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of the fresh com in the corresponding region(all P ＜ 0.05 ), and there were statistically significant differences across the regions(H = 42.512, P＜ 0.05). The fluorine content of the local fresh chili were (3.34 ± 1.08), (3.44 ± 0.55), (3.47 ± 0.74), (3.46 ± 0.93)mg/kg, respectively, in the 4 observed places in Xiaguan of Dali city and Yile, Wufeng's Songlinwan, Tangfang in Zhenxiong county, and there were no statistically significant differences across the regions (F = 0.052, P ＞ 0.05 ). The fluorine content of pepper samples after baking or drying for 4 months were (7.01 ± 1.64), (226.07 ± 83.69), (179.36 ± 148.37), (54.51 ± 34.67)mg/kg,respectively, which were significantly higher than that of the fresh pepper in the corresponding region(all P ＜ 0.05 ),and there were statistically significant differences across the regions(H = 28.822, P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion Corn and chili fluorine is significantly increased after baked with coal and clay-mixed with coal by farmers in Zhenxiong county, a coal- burning borne endemic fluorosis area of Yunnan province.

AIM: This study was designed to investigate the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on the amyloid ?-protein precursor (APP) and neprilysin (NEP)expression induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in C6 cell line in order to discover effectual Alzheimer's disease (AD)-treated drugs. METHODS: MTT colorimetric analysis was used to measure the survival rate of C6 cultured with ginsenoside Rg1 at different concentrations (2 5, 5, 10 and 20 ?mol?L -1) and LPS (100 mg?L -1). The expression of APP and NEP mRNA was measured by RT-PCR. RESULTS: LPS decreased the survival rate of C6, furthermore, the increase in APP expression and the decrease in NEP expression were observed. On the other hand, the above alteration induced by LPS was reversed by ginsenoside Rg1. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that LPS can cause cell damage, the increase in APP expression and the decrease in NEP expression. Ginsenoside Rg1 can exert a neuroprotective action, protect C6 cells against LPS-induced injury via inhibiting APP expression and increasing NEP expression.

AIM: To investigate the inhibitory effect of TanshinoneⅡA on U251 glioma cell line and its mechanism. METHODS: MTT was used to measure the levels of the proliferation in U251 cultured with TanshinoneⅡA at different concentrations. The effects of TanshinoneⅡA on cell cycle of U251 were observed by FCM. The expression of proto-oncogene c-myc was measured by RT-PCR. RESULTS: The proliferation of U251 was obviously inhibited by TanshinoneⅡA in a dose dependent manner. The inhibitory rate came to the peak at (54 2?0 9)%, when cultured with TanshinoneⅡA at 0 10 g/L. The outcome of FCM showed that the proportion of G 0/G 1 phase cells was increased and the proportion of S phase cells was reduced obviously, when cultured with TanshinoneⅡA at 0 10 g/L for 3 days. The RT-PCR experiment showed that the expression of proto-oncogene c-myc was notably decreased, when the dose of TanshinoneⅡA was increased. CONCLUSION: TanshinoneⅡA inhibited the proliferation of U251 and the expression of proto-oncogene c-myc.

Objective To investigate the pathogenesis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) nuclear factor kappa-?B(NF-?B) in children with primary nephritic syndrome(PNS) and the effect of astragalus on the activity of NF-?B.Methods Twenty-five children with PNS and 20 normal children were studied.Isolated PBMC were separated from 5 mL venous blood in asepsis condition.NF-?B stimulator,NF-?B inhabitor and astragalus were added into the different tubes of PBMC,respectively.The nuclear protein was extracted from the pellets and the optical density(A) values of nuclear protein was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results The activity of PBMC NF-?B in PNS group was higher than that in normal group(P0.05).Astragalus could decrease the activity of PBMC NF-?B which had been stimulated by interleukin-1?(IL-1?)(P

Objective:To prepare a novel dental lithium disilicate glass-ceramic,and to study its properties.Methods:A2 colored novel glass-ceramic was prepared by sintering technique.The flexural strength,density,elastic modulus,hardness,fracture toughness, translucency and microstructure of the novel glass-ceramic and IPS e.max Press (LT A2,MO1 and HO1 )ceramic ingots were studied. Results:The novel glass-ceramic demonstrated a lower flexural strength (31 5 MPa)than MO ceramic ingot(338 MPa)(P <0.05). The other mechanical properties of the novel glass-ceramic were similar to those of LT and MO ceramic ingots(P >0.05).The translu-cency parameter of the novel glass-ceramic(21 .2)was higher than that of HO(1 6.5)but lower than that of LT(27.8)and MO(27.5) ceramic ingots(P <0.05).SEMimages showed an interlocking microstructure of rod-shaped Li2 Si2 O5 crystals in all the glass-ceramics investigated.Conclusion:The mechanical properties,translucency and microstructure of the novel glass-ceramic are similar to those of IPS e.max Press ceramic ingots,which can meet the requirements of clinical application.

Objective To investigate the clinical value of automated breast volume scanner(ABVS) system in detection musculoskeletal system lesions.Methods Totally 49 patients were scanned by Acuson S2000 ABVS system after conventional ultrasound examination.The scanning data of ABVS were stored and automatically reconstructed to obtain coronal and sagittal images.Then the results were analyzed and the occurrence rates of circle sign of different lesions were compared.Results The images of 49 lesions were obtained with ABVS and conventional ultrasound successfully.Statistical difference of the occurrence rate of circle sign was found between benign and malignant lesions (x2 =5.559,P =0.021).However,there was no statistical difference between hemangioma and malignant lesions (x2 =2.098,P =0.156).Meanwhile,a missed lesion in conventional ultrasound examination was found in coronal view by ABVS.Conclusions ABVS system can obtain effective coronal images of musculoskeletal system lesions,which represents a progress.

Seventy-three patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into atheroselerosis(AS) group and non-AS group according to the intima-media thickness(IMT)of the carotid artery.The plasma visfatin level in AS group was higher than that in non-As group[(44.95±10.14 vs 34.52±9.08)μg/L,P<0.05],and both of them were higher than that of the control [(24.46±7.18)μg/L,both P<0.05 ].The visfatin level Was positively correlated with IMT,waist-to-hip ratio,visceral fat thickness,fasting insulin,and HOMA insulin resistance index.Age,duration of diabetes,HbA_(1C),and visfatin level were the major risk factors for IMT of the carotid artery.
