OBJECTIVETo uncover the transmission patterns of the HIV epidemic in Dehong prefecture.
METHODSThe reviewed case reports, data of sentinel surveillance, testing and special survey were analyzed by SAS 8.0 program. The transmission patterns were modeled by utilizing data including sizes of the whole population and the high risk groups, high risk behavior data from 1989 to 2007, and the population index such as sex ratio and fertility rate.
RESULTSIn 2005, case reports showed the proportion of people infected with HIV through sexual contact was 39.1%, and 46.9% in 2006. Among 1636 cases reported between January 1 to September 20, 2007, the proportion of people infected with HIV through sexual contact was 52%. From 1989 to 2007, the proportion of HIV infection among drug users was declining, while HIV infection through sexual contact was rising after standardizing the population tested/surveyed. The Asian Epidemic Model has shown that the proportions of incident HIV infections through sexual transmissions were 50.6%, 52.3% and 52.7% respectively from 2005 to 2007. Correspondingly, the proportions of incident cases by injecting drug user were 48.9%, 47.2% and 46.7% respectively during this period. Moreover, the Workbook method has shown that, among adults living with HIV in 2007, 50.3% were infected through injecting drugs and 48.4% through unsafe sexual activity.
CONCLUSIONThe rapid rise in HIV infections through injecting drug in Dehong prefecture has been initially curbed. HIV epidemic has already witnessed a change from predominantly through drug injecting-related activity to an almost equally fuelled epidemic by sexual and drug-related transmission.

OBJECTIVETo assess the effect of intermittent subcutaneous injections of signal-selective parathyroid hormone (PTH) peptide analog on fracture healing in orchiectomized mouse models.
METHODSThirty-six 7-week-old C57/BL male mice were orchiectomized and injected with hPTH(1-34), the signal-selective PTH peptide analog [Gly(1), Arg(19)]hPTH (1-34), or an identical volume of vehicle 1 week after induction of femoral fracture. At 14 and 28 days after the operation, the mice were sacrificed for measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) of the callus using by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. The bone healing was evaluated by radiography, biomechanical testing, micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) and histological examination.
RESULTSAt 14 days after the operation, BMD in PTH peptide analog group was significantly increased (P<0.05). The mouse models treated with the PTH peptide analog showed significantly lower ultimate bending force and bending rigidity than those with hPTH(1-34) treatment. X-ray and Micro-CT scanning showed that callus transformation and remodeling was better in PTH peptide analog group than in the vehicle control group but poorer than in hPTH(1-34) group.
CONCLUSIONThe signaling-selective PTH peptide analog G1, R19 (1-28) can accelerate fracture healing in orchiectomized mouse models, in which process cAMP/PKA pathway plays an important role.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2004;21(6):979-982
The main component of this pill is 2-Octadecanoic acid-4-Palmitic acid-2, 4-Pentanediyl ester separated from chloroform extract of neem oil. The microcapsules coated by the re-curdle method were fabricated with an average particle size of 100-180 microm. The morphological characteristics, incorporation efficiency, carrier reclamation efficiency of the microcapsule were investigated. Kunming mice were used in the experiment, and the anti-fertility effect of the microcapsule on the histology and apoptosis was studied by light and electron microscopy and the flow cytometry. The data obtained clearly indicated that the microcapsule could lead to the payload of medicine, the incorporation efficiency being 90%. After the microcapsules were given to the male mice orally, its anti-fertility effect came into being and could keep the mice in a state of reversible infertility for a long time. The results of histological study and flow cytometry indicate that the mechanism of its anti-fertility effect involves mainly the inhibition of sperm motility and the arrest of spermatogenic process.

National Journal of Andrology 2004;10(9):681-683
OBJECTIVETo explore the possible relationship between erectile dysfunction (ED) and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) in men, and to assess the positive effect of Sildenafil on the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) from BPH while treating ED.
METHODSThirty-two patients with ED and BPH were offered oral Sildenafil and reviewed before and six months after the administration of Sildenafil by the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaires. Scores were tested by chi-square.
RESULTSIIEF-5 scores were increased by 42.36% and IPSS scores declined by 20.14%, with statistical significance (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONTreatment of ED with Sildenafil appears to improve urinary symptom scores. A lower IPSS at baseline seems to predict a better response to Sildenafil therapy for ED.

Objective: To analyze the essential medicines supply of medical institutions at county-level in Shaanxi Province and to provide empirical evidences and suggestions to improve relevant policies. Methods:A strati-fied cluster random sampling method was used to choose the institution samples. A survey was conducted to study the supply of essential medicines in 2012. Indicators include the variety and amount of essential medicines procured, the medicine shortage condition, and the rate of winning the bid for essential medicine. Results:Essential medicines ac-counted for 69 . 1% of all medicines;and procurement of essential medicines accounted for 42 . 4% of all procurement spending on medicines. Of the top 25 chemical products of essential medicines, provincial supplementary medicines accounted for 33. 9%;and among the top 25 traditional Chinese medicines of essential medicines, the provincial sup-plementary medicines accounted for 51. 9%. All 27 medical institutions faced a shortage of medicines. There were 47 kinds of essential drugs in urgent need were out of bid. Conclusion:Essential medicine supply of medical institutions at county-level is in good condition;however, more attention needs to be paid to medicine shortage. We should take measurements to standardize the process of bidding for essential medicines and strengthen the management of medi-cine shortage in order to better meet patients’ needs.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between Watchman occluder and structure of mitral valve apparatus in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation after left atrial appendage closure(LAAC) by transesophageal echocardiography. Methods:From January 2018 to December 2020, 29 patients [20 male, 9 female, (69.55±10.06)years old] with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation underwent LAAC in Zhongshan Hospital (implanted Watchman occluder), and all patients underwent pre-operative and follow-up two and three dimensional transesophageal echocardiography(2DTEE, 3DTEE) at 60 days after the operation. The quantitative parameters of mitral valve apparatus were obtained by offline analysis using the MVA module in QLab 13.0 (Philips Healthcare, Andover, MA), the differences between pre-operation and post-operation were compared, and the relationship between occluder compression ratio and mitral valve parameters with significant changes after operation was analyzed.Results:①The values of AL-PM diameter(AL-PM), 3D annulus circumference(3DAC), 2D annulus area(2DAA), 3D annulus area(3DAA), tenting volume(TnV), tenting area(TnA) and commissural diameter(CD) decreased significantly compared with pre-operative values(all P<0.05), while the annulus sphericity index(SPI) increased significantly ( P<0.05). ②In the quantitative mitral value parameters with significant pre- and post-operation changes, TnV was correlated with the occluder compression ratio ( r=0.403, P=0.030), but AL-PM, SPI, 3DAC, 2DAA, 3DAA, TnA, CD were not correlated with it(all P>0.05). Conclusions:3DTEE can accurately evaluate the effect of Watchman occluder on the morphology of mitral valve device. Implanting Watchman occluder in left atrial appendage can make three-dimensional mitral valve apparatus flat and decrease annulus left-right diameter and annulus area; the pre-operative TnV, the more susceptible to the occluder implantation, and TnV is correlated with the compression ratio.
