Mycobacterium tuberculosis L-forms(MTB-L), which has a deficient cell wall, shows various forms, various colors by acid-fast stain, osmosis pressure sensitivity and can not grow in normal isotonic culture medium, for all of the characters, misdiagnosis, underdiagnosis, difficulties of cure and recurrence became the crucial problems in the prevention and control of pulmonary tuberculosis. The recent research works on structure, biology, clinic, epidemiology and determination of MTB-L were reviewed in the present paper.

A retrospective analysis was made of 56 children with a definite diagnosis of pulmonary edema,in whom x-ray films were taken before and after treatment.Four patients had been in Tibet for five months to 6 years. In 50 patients, pulmonary edema occurred 6~72 hours after they flied into Tibet. Two of them died during treatment because of delayed treatment and critical conditions. All 56 patients were of Han nationality, aged 5 months to 12 years.Childhood acute pulmonary edema accountes for 69% of all high altitude pulmonary edema cases.Childhood pulmonary edema had an acute onset, and it ran a fulminating course.chest films usually showed disseminating alveolar changes, and the diagnosis may be misleading.X-ray physicians should get familiar with the diagnosis to avoid a delayed diagnosis and treatment.

Objective To clone cDNA of trichosanthin (TCS) and purify TCS, and to study its influence on apoptosis and growth inhibition of colorectal carcinoma LoVo cells in vitro. Methods MTT assay was adopted to measure the growth inhibition ratio of LoVo cells treated with TCS, and apoptosis was assayed by agarose gel eletrophoresis. Results The results showed that the higher concentration of TCS and the longer testing time, the stronger growth inhibition of LoVo cells. DNA agarose gel eletrophoresis showed a gradient, which confirmed that TCS could induce the apoptosis of LoVo cells. Conclusions TCS can inhibit the growth of LoVo cells in vitro and induce its apoptosis. Our study provides evidence for the application of TCS in clinical treatment of human colorectal carcinoma.

As an important nucleus of basal ganglia, globus pallidus was concerned to involve in the neural mechanism of Parkins's disease (PD). Previous studies of PD patients and animal model indicate that neurotransmitters and receptors are changed in globus pallidus neurons, the balance between inhibition and excitation is broken in the output nuclei of basal ganglia, and globus pallidus neurons display bursting and oscillatory discharge, the synchronous tendency of neighboring neurons enhances. These neurophysiological changes are associated with PD symptoms, such as bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor, which reflects that globus pallidus plays an important role in the process of PD. In the present paper, the recent advances in pathophysiology in globus pallidus, its clinical application in treatment of Parkinson's disease, and the study direction in the future are reviewed.

BACKGROUND:Recent studies have demonstrated that surgical trauma leads to lipid peroxidation in erythrocytes. However, injured erythrocytes play an important role in thrombosis following replacement.OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the influence of artificial total knee replacement on the lipid peroxdation in erythrocytes, and the prophylactic treatment of vitamin E and fructose 1,6 diphosphate(FDP)on it.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:Contrast clinical study, which was carried out in the Department of Otthopaedics,Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University from January 2003 to June 2006.PARTICIPANTS:Sixty patients with knee osteoarthritis who underwent artificial total knee replacement by anesthesia of epidural block were divided into four groups, including control group, vitamin E group,FDP group and vitamin E+FDP group, with 15 cases in each group.METHODS:Vitamin E was orally taken in the vitamin E group three days before replacement, three times a day,100 mg for each. The administration was performed until the surgical morning.Thirty minutes after the operation,FDP(10 g)was intravenously dripped in the FDP group.Additionally.vitamin E was also orally taken in the vitamin E+FDP group three days before replacement, three times a day,100 mg for each;on the surgical morning,FDP(10 g)was intravenously dripped on the first 30minutes.Blood samples were taken for biochemical determination before and after the operation at 1,3,5,and 7 days.MAIN OUTCOME M[EASURES:Corltents of malonaldehyde(MDA)and cuprum/zincum/superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn-SOD)in the erythrocytes.RESULTS:MDA level in the vitamin E group and FDP group was significantly higher than that in the vitamin E+FDP group before and 5 and 7 days after replacement(P<0.05);while,Cu-Zn-SOD level was significantly lower(P<0.05).Otherwise,there were no significant differences in vitamin E+FDP group before and after replacement(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:The artificial total knee replacement can enhance lipid peroxidation and decrease antioxygen capability. However, the combination of vitamin E and FDP can prevent and relieve lipid peroxidation and antioxygen capability after replacement.

Background and purpose: Bladder cancer is the most common urological malignancy in our country which seriously threatens human health, and its incidence increased year by year. This study aimed to investigate the effects of hinokitiol on the proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy in human bladder cancer cell lines. Methods:CCK-8 assays were performed to analyze the effects of hinokitiol on the proliferation of J82 cells. Apoptosis rate was determined by lfow cytometry. Cleaved caspase 3, LC3 and P62 protein expression was determined using Western blot. EGFP-LC3 microscopy assay was performed to assess autophagy. Results: Hinokitiol significantly inhibited the proliferation of J82 cells and induced cell apoptosis via caspase pathway. The apoptosis effect of hinokitiol could be partially antagonized by Z-VAD-FMK. Hinokitiol induced autophagy of J82 cells, increased LC3 expression and down-regulated P62 expression. 3-MA is able to rescue Tet-induced cell death. Conclusion:Hinokitiol can inhibit the proliferation of J82 cells and induce cell apoptosis via autophagy activation.

The bacterium Streptomyces peucetius produces doxorubicin and daunorubicin, and the two widely used anticancer antibiotics. Two open reading frames, drrA and drrB,were proposed to encode for an ABC (ATP-binding cassette) type of permease that carries out export of the antibiotic ABC (ATP binding cassette)-type transporter for the exportation of these two antibiotics. In this paper, the structure, expression and interaction of DrrA and DrrB protein and the research progress of the assembly and multi drug efflux function of DrrAB are briefly reviewed.

AIM: To investigate the effect of ethanol and chemical carcinogen N,N'-dinitrosopiperazine(DNP) on the exogenous expression of CYP2E1.METHODS: Exogenous hCYP2E1 was introduced into NIH3T3 mediated by lipofectamine. Then the integration of exogenous gene was showed by Southemrn blot. After treated with different concentration of ethanol and DNP,RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to analyze the expression change of hCYP2E1 in NIH 3T3. RESULTS: Two cell clones with integration and stable expression of exogenous hCYP2E1 were obtained. The RT-PCR and Western blotting showed that human CYP2E1 mRNA and protein expression was enhanced with increase in ethanol and DNP concentration. CONCLUSION: Exogenous expression of hCYP2E1 was steadily induced by ethanol and DNP. The mechanism may be due to the activation of its transcription. The DNP carcinogenesis might be related to its in situ activation by CYP2E1.
