Objective To evaluate catheter-directed thrombolysis through popliteal vein for the treatment of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Method A total of 62 patients with single symptomatic lower limb DVT were analyzed. The popliteal vein of symptomatic limb was punctured, under Doppler guidance a 5-F sheath was advanced into the deep vein. A catheter was advanced beyond the thrombus. After a bolus of 200 000 IU urokinase, 100 000 IU/h urokinase was infused for up to three days, meanwhile 400 IU heparin was administered subcutaneously every 12h. Clinical efficacy grade was evaluated by measuring the perimeter of legs and lysis grade was calculated based on venographic results. Results In addition to total or partial removal of the thrombus collateral circulation increased, the limbs edema reduction rate was 78% and the thrombolysis rate was 67%. Thrombolysis rate in acute, and relapsing cases was significantly higher than in chronic group (75%,and 71% vs. 49%,P

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the biomechanical properties of tibial plateau depressed fracture fixed with a net-fixation of Kirschner wires.
METHODSTwenty homemade fracture models were fixed with eight 1.5 mm Kirschner wires in a net-fixation; 20 homemade fracture models were fixed with two 3.5 mm cortical screws. Plane-compressed and dot-compressed test were made on each 10 models of the two groups. The maximal force of anti-ompress and stiffness were measured and evaluated.
RESULTSIn plane-compressed test,mean maximal force of anti-compress and stiffness for screw fixation was (1,925.31 +/- 444.26) N and (2.28 +/- 0.53) N/mm2, respectively, for net-fixation was (1,609.62 +/- 277.72) N and (1.90 +/- 0.33) N/mm2, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the two fixation methods (P > 0.05). In dot-compressed test,mean maximal force of anti-compress and stiffness for screw fixation was (411.13 +/- 233.88) N and (2.66 +/- 1.52) N/mm2,respectively,for net-fixation was (1,105.58 +/- 290.66) N and (7.18 +/- 1.89) N/mm2,respectively,the net-fixation was better than that of the screw fixation (P< 0.01).
CONCLUSIONTreatment of tibial plateau depressed fracture with a net-fixation of Kirschner wires is a biological fixation and is a reliably method.

Chinese Journal of Surgery 2003;41(4):296-298
OBJECTIVETo summarize the clinical experience in diagnosis and treatment of knee disease by arthrowand technique under arthroscope.
METHODSeventy-two patients were divided randomly into control and test groups (each 36 patients). The patients suffered from meniscectomy, synovitis and arthritis. The control group confirmed and treated by knee arthroscope, was subjected to debridement, cleansing and hole drilling for reduction of pressure. The test group was treated by arthrowand under arthroscope. All patients received rehabilitation therapy.
RESULTSThe patients developed no infection or complication. Better therapeutic results were obtained after follow up of 6 to 24 months.
CONCLUSIONArthrowand technique under arthroscope for the diagnosis and treatment of knee diseases has the advantages of less injury, bleeding, and complication but quick recovery.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect and mechanism of prepared Radix Polygoni Multiflori (RPM) on the elevation of extracellular hydroxyl radical in striatum of rats induced by intracerebral perfusion of 6-hydroxy dopamine (6-OHDA).
METHODSCerebral microdialysis was used to establish the model. Hydroxyl radical was captured by salicylic acid, and 2,3-dihydroxy benzyl acid (2,3-DHBA) and 2,5-dihydroxy benzyl acid (2,5-DHBA) formed by hydroxyl radical in vital brain were measured by high performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical detector (HPLC-ED).
RESULTSAfter perfusion of 6-OHDA in brain of rats, the levels of 2,3-DHBA and 2,5-DHBA in the model group increased rapidly. The former was higher during the whole course of observation (P<0.01), while the latter was higher at most time points than that in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The level of 2,3-DHBA in the RPM group was lower than that in the model group at 5 time points (P < 0.05, P < 0. 01).
CONCLUSIONRPM could inhibit the elevating of extracellular hydroxyl radical in striatum of rats induced by intracerebral perfusion of 6-OHDA, indicating one of the brain protective mechanisms of RPM may be related to its anti-oxidation effect.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the core functional region of antimicrobial peptide LL-37, which inhibites RSV replication and could be developed for theraputic aplication.
METHODSA panel of 6 partial LL-37 peptides (referred to as P1 to P6) was synthesized according to LL-37 amino acide sequence. Hep-2 cells were infected with RSV, treated with LL-37 or partial peptides respectively. Cells were collected after 24 hours incubation at 37 degrees C, CO2 5%. Total RNA was obtained from the cells. Expression level of RSV N gene was quantified by real-time PCR. Meanwhile enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to quantify the chemokines RANTES, IL-8, MCP1 in the supernatants of Hep-2 cultures after 24 h incubation with or without LL-37 and partial peptide P6.
RESULTSN-terminal partial LL-37 peptide (corresponding to residues 1-12 of LL-37) had no significant effects on RSV replication (P > 0.05). In contrast, C-terminal (corresponding to residues 13-37) and a panel of 4 overlapping 22-mer partial peptides (from the peptide incorporating aa 13-34 through that spanning aa 16-37) showed significant inhibitory effect on RSV replication to some extent (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). LL-37 induced significant expression of chemokine RANTES, IL-8 and MCP-1 in Hep-2 cells. In contrast, partial peptide P6 had no significant effect on expression of the chemokines in Hep-2 cells.
CONCLUSIONThe LL-37 C-terminal 22-mer partial peptide P6 was putative core functional region for inhibition of RSV replication. The partial peptide didn't induce significant expression of chemokine RANTES, IL-8 and MCP-1.
