Objective To investigate the rule of the cerebral tissues aquaporin-4(AQP-4) expression in acute and chronic hepatic failure mice.To study the molecular biologic mechanism of the diffusion weighted imaging(DWI).Methods Sixty five male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups randomly, including acute(n=25),chronic hepatic failure(n=25)and control group(n=15). Thioacetamide(TAA)intraperitoneal injection produces the acute and chronic hepatic failure models. All rats in groups were examined with MR DWI.We Observed the distribution of abnormal signal on DWI.The DWI single values of top and lateral cortex of parietal lobe, peripheral region of lateral ventricle in the highest hyperintensity section of brain were measured.Blood ammonia values were examined. The pathologic and immuno-histochemistry and RT-PCR examination for brain specimen were performed. All date were analyzed with statistical methods. Results The mean values of blood ammonia were significantly different (P0.05).Conclusions Increase of the blood ammonia was the main cause for the brain energy metabolic abnormality and AQP-4 mRNA and protein expression. The hyperammonemia was the key factor in the occurrence and development of the hepatic brain edema. The abnormal findings in DWI signal could reflect the range and degree of the brain edema and AQP-4 protein expression.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of air pollution on stroke mortality in Tianjin, China, and to provide basis for stroke control and prevention.
METHODSTotal data of mortality surveillance were collected by Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Meteorological data and atmospheric pollution data were from Tianjin Meteorological Bureau and Tianjin Environmental Monitoring Center, respectively. Generalized additive Poisson regression model was used in time-series analysis on the relationship between air pollution and stroke mortality in Tianjin. Single-pollutant analysis and multi-pollutant analysis were performed after adjustment for confounding factors such as meteorological factors, long-term trend of death, "days of the week" effect and population.
RESULTSThe crude death rates of stroke in Tianjin were from 136.67 in 2001 to 160.01/100000 in 2009, with an escalating trend (P = 0.000), while the standardized mortality ratios of stroke in Tianjin were from 138.36 to 99.14/100000, with a declining trend (P = 0.000). An increase of 10 µg/m³ in daily average concentrations of atmospheric SO₂, NO₂ and PM₁₀ led to 1.0105 (95%CI: 1.0060 ∼ 1.0153), 1.0197 (95%CI: 1.0149 ∼ 1.0246) and 1.0064 (95%CI: 1.0052 ∼ 1.0077), respectively, in relative risks of stroke mortality. SO₂ effect peaked after 1-day exposure, while NO₂ and PM₁₀ effects did within 1 day.
CONCLUSIONAir pollution in Tianjin may increase the risk of stroke mortality in the population and induce acute onset of stroke. It is necessary to carry out air pollution control and allocate health resources rationally to reduce the hazard of stroke mortality.

There is controversy regarding the roles of Ureaplasma urealyticum (U. urealyticum) colonization in the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). This study explored the association between U. urealyticum and bronchopulmonary dysplasia at 36 weeks post-menstrual age (BPD36). Studies published before December 31, 2013 were searched from Medline, Embase, Ovid, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases, with the terms "Ureaplasma urealyticum", "chronic lung disease", or "BPD36" used, and English language as a limit. The association between U. urealyticum colonization and BPD36 was analyzed with RevMan 4.2.10 software, using the odds ratio (OR) and relative risk (RR) for dichotomous variables. Out of the enrolled 81 studies, 11 investigated the BPD36 in total 1193 infants. Pooled studies showed no association between U. urealyticum colonization and subsequent development of BPD36, with the OR and RR being 1.03 (95% CI=0.78-1.37; P=0.84) and 1.01 (95% CI= 0.88-1.16, P=0.84), respectively. These findings indicated no association between U. urealyticum colonization and the development of BPD36.

Objective To explore the effects of dichloromethane(DCM)exposure on serum biochemical indexes among furniture manufacturing workers. Methods A total of 65 workers who engaged in adhesive operations in furniture manufactory and 56 workers who would be recruited into another factory as new employees were investigated. Twenty two pairs of workers were selected as occupationally exposure group and control group, respectively. The concentration of DCM in workplace of adhesive operations in furniture manufactory was determined. Serum levels of TP,ALB,GloB,A/ G, ALT,AST,GGT,AFU,GPDA,ADA,ALP,CHE,CHOL,TG,TBA,TBIL,DBIL and IBIL were tested by automatic biochemical analyzer in all groups. Results The mean levels of serum TP,ALB,GloB in exposure group( the concentrations of DCM in workplace were 1 300 - 7 760 mg/ m3 )were 73. 7 ± 3. 6,47. 5 ± 2. 3 and 26. 2 ± 2. 8 g/ L,which were significantly lower than that of control group(P < 0. 05). Compared to the control group, the mean levels of CHE, ADA,AST and ALT activity in exposure group(7 477. 8 ± 1 240. 8,7. 3 ± 1. 7,21. 6 ± 5. 6 and 13. 0 ± 5. 6 U/ L)were significantly lower(P < 0. 05). The mean levels of TBIL,DBIL and IBIL were 13. 9 ± 7. 6,6. 4 ± 4. 3 and 7. 5 ± 3. 4μmol/ L,respectively, which were significantly higher than that of control group(P < 0. 05). No significant difference in the mean levels of the other biochemical indexes in serum was observed between exposure and control group. However,no correlation was found between the levels of ALB and TBIL,ALB and DBIL,or ALB and IBIL. Conclusion Occupational exposure to DCM is associated with the decrease of TP,ALB,GloB and CHE levels in serum. Meanwhile,DCM occupational exposure is correlated with the increase of TBIL,DBIL and IBIL levels in serum. Our data suggest that occupational exposure to DCM may be related to inhibition of synthetic function in live, damage of blood cells and declined metabolism of bilirubin.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2003;38(4):254-256
OBJECTIVETo study effects of the modified sandblasted surface of titanium implants, developed by authors, on the bone healing process.
METHODSOsteoblasts were derived from the 5th passage of human fetal osteoblasts after primary isolation. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities and protein contents of cellular layers, and osteocalcin contents in culturing medium were employed as criteria to evaluate osteogenic functions and differentiation of osteoblasts. The ALP activity was assayed utilizing the kinetic method, the protein content utilizing the Coomassie's method, and the osteocalcin content utilizing the radioimmune assay (RIA) method. Values of all criteria were divided by the corresponding cell numbers of different groups at a respective time point for the purpose of standardization. Samples were assigned to three groups-the modified sandblasted surface group, the smooth surface group and the blank control group, The culture was ended at, 4 days and 13 days.
RESULTSAt 4 days of culture, the modified sandblasted surface group showed a superiority to the smooth group with respects to the ALP activity [(17.390 +/- 1.595) nmol PNP x min(-1) x 10(-6) cells vs. (10.978 +/- 1.879) nmol PNP x min(-1) x 10(-6) cells] and protein content [(152.7 +/- 16.3) micro g/10(6) cells vs. (58.0 +/- 5.9) micro g/10(6) cells] of cellular layers and the osteocalcincontent [(43.0 +/- 6.1) ng/10(6) cells vs. (24.9 +/- 6.0) ng/10(6) cells] in culturing medium. Till the 13th day of culture, no differences were detected.
CONCLUSIONSIt is cytologically proved that the modified sandblasted surface can accelerate the bone healing process of implants though the improvement of osteoblastic functions and differentiation.
