Objective To evaluate the effect of health education in controlling the iodine deficiency diserders(IDD) in order to provide reference data for the further prevention and control. Methods Each village of 3 towns in Congjiang County was selected in 2007, where the health education lasting for 10 months had been implemented in the school students of 3-6 grade and the villagers. The school students of 3-6 grade and 30 housewives in the villagers were investigated for their IDD control knowledge, the salt consuming conditions as well as the sales of both rough and fine salt at a salt retail site in each village before and after the health education was implemented. Results The awareness rate of the knowledge of IDD control in the students and housewives was 91.4% (581/636) and 78.3% (282/360), respectively after intervention, which significantly increased (χ2= 532.044, 326.117, both P < 0.01) compared with the rate of 28.2% (184/652) and 11.4% (41/360) before intervention. The proportion of consuming fine salt was 91.8%(146/159) and 95.6%(86/90), significantly inereased(χ2= 236.623, 135.350, both P < 0.01) compared with 6.1%(10/163) and 7.8% (7/90) found before intervention. The selling proportion of fine salt at the salt retail site in the village was 60.0%(900/1500), significantly increased(χ2= 824.176, P < 0.01) compared with 10.0%(150/1500) before intervention. Conclusions Health education and promotion is solid foundation for effectively controlling IDD, through which the students and villagers are actively and voluntarily involved in the program and hence have formed good living and hygiene habits, thus expected effect has been obtained.
4.Clinical analysis of severe burn patients with sepsis during shock stage.
Chinese Journal of Burns 2004;20(3):155-157
OBJECTIVETo investigate the pathogenesis, management and prognosis of severe burn patients with sepsis during shock stage.
METHODSFourty-four patients inflicted with over 60% TBSA burn injury and admitted to our hospital within 48 hours after injury during the past 8 years were enrolled in the study. The application of antibiotics in this group of patients was analyzed. The incidence of burn sepsis during shock stage in this group was calculated according to the results of the bacterial culture of the blood samples and burn wound samples,as well as the diagnostic criteria of sepsis. The relationship between sepsis during shock stage and the possibility of enteral bacterial translocation was discussed. Other postburn complications in patients with burn sepsis during shock stage were also observed and their prognosis was explored.
RESULTSThis group of patients were all treated with 3rd and 4th generation of Cephalosporins and Imipenem/Cilastatin sodium after hospitalization. Burn sepsis during shock stage occurred in 4 cases (9.09%), in which one was caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other three possibly by Escherichia coli, Streptococcus faecalis and Bacillus gasoformans. Among the 4 cases, severe disorder in water and electrolytes happened in 1 case, stress ulcer in 2 and acute renal failure in 2. As a result, only one out of the 4 patients survived.
CONCLUSIONBacterial translocation was probable cause of sepsis during shock stage. Shock might predispose sepsis. Early postburn applications of antibiotics sensitive to enteric bacteria could be beneficial to the management of burn sepsis during shock stage.

This study aims to investigate whether the nucleoprotein (NP) of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) can impact the cellular immunity of host cells. Gene segments that encode the NP and non-structural protein (NSs) of SFTSV were inserted into eukaryotic expression vector VR1012. Host proteins that interact with NP and affect immunity were identified with co-immunoprecipitation (IP), SDS-PAGE, mass spectrometry (MS), and Western blot. Co-localization of NP and the identified host proteins was confirmed by confocal microscopy. A 60kD SSA/Ro, a protein related to immunity, interacted with NP, as found by IP and MS. Confocal microscopy showed that NP and SSA/Ro were co-localized in cytoplasm. These results indicated that SFTSV NP may specifically bind to 60kD SSA/Ro and cause a series of immune responses and clinical symptoms.

Chinese Medical Journal 2013;(7):1276-1280
Background The inferior turbinate (IT) and nasolacrimal duct (NLD) are often sacrificed while managing the diffuse lesion of maxillary sinus (MS).We report a new approach to MS without ablation of NLD and IT.Methods This retrospective study enrolled 19 hospitalized patients (aged from 42 to 68 years) who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery between 2003 and 2008.Twelve patients had inverted papilloma (IP),two had nasal polyps, two had Kubo's postoperative cyst of MS,one had recurrent bone cyst of maxilla, one had dentigerous cyst and one had bleeding of internal maxillary artery secondary to Caldwell-Luc operation respectively. Two IP patients were excluded from this group since the follow-up time was less than 12 months. The NLD was dissected after removing the anterior bony portion of nasal lateral wall. The prelacrimal recess approach (PLRA) to MS was established when IT-NLD flap was raised medially. The flap was repositioned when MS lesion was removed. Results All the 17 patients had unilateral lesions.Ten MS IP patients were at the T3 Krouse stage. The follow-up ranged from 7 to 60 months. No recurrence was seen in 16 patients.Only one IP patient had a local recurrence in MS.All of them had no any complications. Conclusion The diffuse or severe diseases of MS may be the potential indications for PLRA.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the influence of ethylbenzene on the levels of mandelic acid (MA) and phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA) in urine, the ultrastructure and the expressions of mitochondrial apoptotic-related genes in the rat nephridial tissues.
METHODSFour groups of 10 males of Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated randomly into four groups: control (C) group, low (L) group, moderate (M) group and high (H) group, and inhaled daily with different doses of ethylbenzene: 0, 433.5 mg/m(3), 4335 mg/m(3), and 6500 mg/m(3) 6 h per day, 5 days per week for 13 weeks. The mandelic acid and phenylglyoxylic acid in the urine was assayed by high performance liquid chromatography. The ultrastructure of nephridial tissue was observed via electron microscope. The protein expression levels of Bax, Bcl-2, cytochrome C, Caspase-9 and Caspase-3 in nephridial tissues were measured by Western blot, respectively.
RESULTSThe levels of MA [(0.303 +/- 0.148) mg/L, (0.404 +/- 0.154) mg/L] and PGA [(0.168 +/- 0.104) mg/L, (0.174 +/- 0.092) mg/L] in the urine of M and H groups were significantly higher than that in the control and L group [(0.084 +/- 0.070) mg/L, (0.041 +/- 0.029) mg/L] (P < 0.05, respectively). It has been shown a dose-effect relationship between the contents of MA, PGA and MA + PGA and inhaled ethylbenzene, respectively. The mitochondria of rat nephridial tissue of H group became a compact and vacuolar structure with disorder and loss of cristae. The expression levels of Bax in mitochondria of nephridial tissues of M and H groups were significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Caspase-3 expression level in H group was remarkably higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the expression levels of cytochrome C and Caspase-9 were enhanced, while the expression levels of Bcl-2 were restrained in all ethylbenzene-treated groups (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, respectively). The expression levels of Caspase-3 in M and H groups were significantly higher than that in the control group and L group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONEthylbenzene can induce apoptosis in the cells of nephridial tissues. The apoptotic mechanism might be involved with up-regulation of Bax, cytochrome C, Caspase-9 and Caspase-3, as well as restraint of Bcl-2. The level of MA and PGA in the rat urine could be a parameter of biological dose in vivo after ethylbenzene inhalation.
