Danshen is one of the traditional Chinese herbal medicines and nas a long history or being used clinically in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions such as coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. Tanshinone IIA is a derivative of phenanthrene-quinone isolated from Danshen. It has been reported to be the major bioactive compound of Danshen and has diverse biological effects. Recent studies demonstrated that tanshinone IIA had neuroprotective effects on experimental ischemic stroke through its antiinflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-apoptosis effects and its inhibitory effect on excitatory amino acid toxicity. In this review, we summarized all the recent progresses on the protective effect of tanshinone IIA on cerebral ischemic stroke. Hopefully, this article will throw some light on further study and application of tanshinone IIA.

Objective To explore the management of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of lower limbs in patients with severe craniocerebral injury. Methods The clinical data of 9 patients of severe craniocerebral injury with DVT were analyzed respectively. Results All 9 patients were given medicine therapy including thrombolytic, anti coagulating, anti platelet aggregation and antibiotics. 3 cases were cured, 1 case was improved, 4 cases died and 1 case discharged by himself. Conclusion There are risk factors for DVT in patients with severe craniocerebral injury. Early prophylaxis is important. Early diagnosis and treatment are benefited.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect and safety of plastering Chinese Compound Shenhuang Ointment (CSO) at Shenque (RN8) in promoting the rehabilitation of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients of qi stagnation blood stasis syndrome (QSBSS).
METHODSA prospective, multi-centered, randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial was conducted in 220 postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients of QSBSS. They were randomly assigned to two groups, the CSO group (110 cases) and the placebo group (110 cases). CSO was plastered at Shenque (RN8) for 5 days after operation. The time of exhaustion, defecation, the recovery of intestinal peristalsis, integrals of TCM syndrome, and serum levels of motilin (MOT)and somatostatin (SS) were observed.
RESULTSCompared with the placebo group, the condition of exhaustion and defecation, the recovery of intestinal peristalsis on the 3rd day after operation was all improved (P < 0.05). The integrals of TCM syndrome at day 2, 3, and 4 were more significantly lowered in the CSO group than in the placebo group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The total effective rate of TCM syndrome was 95.3% in the CSO group, better than that in the placebo group (91.8%, P < 0.05). Compared with the placebo group, the serum MOT level increased and the serum SS level decreased at day 5 after operation in the CSO group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe plastering of CSO at Shenque (RN8) could advance the time of exhaustion and defecation, and improve patients' clinical symptoms. And patients could tolerate well.

Objective:To study whether the orientation behavior of rats is affected by multi-sensory information. Methods: SD rats were randomly divided into 2 groups:the audio-visual integration group and pure audio group. The orientation behaviors of rats were observed after given single modal and multi-modal sensory cues with spatial disparities. Results:We found that when the temporal and spatial audio cues were coincident to a target visual cue,the rats had a markedly reduced reaction time and increased success rate in orientation behaviors;there was an obvious audio-visual integration effect. The integration effect was more obvious when the intensity of target visual cue was weak, with the enhancement efficiency being(87.3?8.5)%, significantly higher than that when the intensity of target visual cue was stronger(27.6%,P

AIM:To investigate the clinical effect of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs combined with laser photocoagulation for diabetic macular edema (DME).METHODS: Totally 94 patients (141 eyes) with DME from June to December 2015 in our hospital were selected and randomly divided into combined group of 47 cases (68 eyes, ranibizumab combined with laser therapy) and the control group of 47 cases (73 eyes, laser treatment). The levels of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), macular central retinal thickness (CRT), total macular volume (TMV) and macular edema level were compared between the two groups at different time after treatment.RESULTS: The mean values of BCVA in the combined group were higher than those in the control group at 2, 6 and 12wk, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).At 2, 6 and 12wk after treatment, the CRT and TMV values of the combined group were lower than those of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).After treated for 12wk, patients with macular edema of combined group was 80.9% in mild level, 17.7% in moderate level, 1.5% in severe level, those of the control group was 60.0%, 31.5%, 5.5%, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The effect of anti-VEGF drugs combined with laser therapy for DME patients is better than that of single laser therapy alone.

Quercetin and its glycosides are important flavonols in traditional herbal drugs and plant-derived food, and they have diverse hiological activities such as antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities. Numerous studies have demonstrated that quercetin and its glycosides were effective in the prevention and treatment of non-infectious chronic disease such as diabetes, obesity, and hyperlipidemia. They can regulate glucose and lipid metaholism through different mechanisms. They can decrease blood glucose via protecting pancreatic/p cells or/and improving insulin sensitivity. Also, they have lipid-lowering effects, which may be the result of regulation of lipid catabolism or/and anabolism. Their distributions, as well as the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects are reviewed in this paper. In addition, further bioactivities as well as their dose-activity relationship, structure-activity relationship, bioavailability, and future clinical application of quercetin and its glycosides are discussed and proposed.

Objective To investigate the operative methods and their efficacy of the modified decompressive craniectomy in combination with indirect revascularization for the treatment of massive cerebral infarction. Methods The clinical data of 15 patients with massive cerebral infarction who underwent modified decompressive craniectomy in combination with encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical efficacy was assessed according to the mortality, Barthel Index and modified Rankin scale. Results All the patients were followed up, and 12 patients survived 3 months after operation, of those, 4 had a good functional outcome; 11 patients survived 6 month after operation, of those, 7 had a good functional outcome. Conclusions The modified decompressive craniectomy in combination with indirect revascularization for the treatment of massive cerebral infarction could effectively treat massive cerebral infarction and increase the survival rate and life quality of patients, however, the surgical timing, surgical indications and surgical skills are needed to master accurately.
