Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2002;18(2):219-221
AIM: To study the protective effect of total salvianolic acid against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS: The cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model in mice was made by means of ligating bilateral common carotid arteries in mice. After reperfusion, latency, error number of step down test and the gasping time after cutting head in ischemia-reperfusion mice were recorded. Spectrophotometric assay were used to measure the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), the contents malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH) in brain of experimental mice brain homogenate. RESULTS: In step-down test, the ischemia-reperfusion impaired the function of learning and memory in mice. The total salvianolic acid markedly improved the function of learning and memory, reduced the error number and extended the latency in ischemia reperfusion mice. The total salvianolic acid also significantly inhibited the changes of SOD, MDA and GSH in the cerebrum induced by ischemia-reperfusion. CONCLUSION: The total salvianolic acid has protective effect against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via its antioxidant activity.

ObjectiveTo investigate the necessary of letting the intelligent knee joint be adaptive to the road terrain and the key technology of knee moment control method. MethodsBased on data from gait analysis and the dynamic model of lower limb, the knee moments while people walking on the path of different terrain were obtained. Terrain identification method was based on the features of electromyography(EMG) signals of the thigh, and the EMG of some muscles was detected. The methods were applied to an intelligent trans-femoral prosthesis developed for tests in the laboratory.ResultsConsiderable variation of the knee moments appeared when people walking on the path of different terrain,as well as that of the features of EMG of some muscles.ConclusionIt is necessary to make the intelligent knee joint be adaptive to the road terrain, and it is possible to be achieved with satisfied motion of the leg and the trajectory of ankle joint by the intelligent transfemoral prosthesis being studied which can identify the features of EMG signals.

Objective To evaluate the biomechanical effects of using a new injectable calcium phosphate cement to consolidate the fixation of osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture.Method Five matchod pairs of human cadaver femora were used to produce the model of intertrochanteric fracture. All fractures were fixed with dynamic hip screws(DHS),and divided into two groups. In the CPC consolidation group of each pair,CPC was used to grout the hip screw and to fill the posteromedial defect. All femora were subjected to biomechanical test. Results Under the loading of 500 N,in the CPC consolidation group, the mean axial stiffness is(691.93±18.90)N/mm and the horizontal shear stiffness is(5553.84±27.47)N/mm.The mean lateral and medial strength is(5.15±0.35)MPa and(4.13±0.24)MPa.The torsion stiffness was 0.41 and the ultimate loading is(3580±286)N.In the control group, the mean axiak stiffness is(453.45±19.75)N/mm,the horizontal shear stiffness is(3848.87±22.63)N/mm,the mean lateral and medial strength is(3.12±0.37)MPa and(1.80±0.21)MPa,and,the torsion stiffness is 0.35 and the ultimate loading is(2512±189)N.Consolidation fixation with CPC increased each of the biomechanical efficiency(P<0.05).Conclusions CPC consolidation of osteoprotic femoral head and the medial defect of intertrochanteric fracture can significantly improve the overall stability and decrease the rate of postoperative complication.

AIMTo develop a high throughput screening assay to identify inhibitors of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).
METHODSICAM-1 expression in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated endothelial cells was measured by ELISA. The cytotoxicity of the compounds was measured by MTT.
RESULTSLipopolysaccharide (LPS) increased ICAM-1 expression in HUVEC in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Two thousand compounds were screened and the hit rate was 1.5%. Among these 30 compounds, 24 were cytotoxic.
CONCLUSIONThe ELISA method was inexpensive, reproducible and suitable for high throughput primary cell assay. This assay was feasible to identify inhibitors of ICAM-1 and simultaneously discriminate the activity from the cytotoxic effects.

Chinese Journal of Hepatology 2012;20(8):589-592
To investigate the efficacy of interferon alpha 2 b plus ribavirin combination therapy in sixty-two patients with chronic hepatitis c (CHC) infection originating from a single blood donor. The 62 patients who developed CHC following blood transfusion from a known single infected donor were treated with interferon and ribavirin combination therapy for 48 weeks and followed-up for 96 weeks. The therapy regimen consisted of subcutaneous administration of 3-500 MIU interferon alpha 2 b every other day and daily oral administration of 0.6-1.0 g of ribavirin. Patients were monitored during treatment and in follow-up for sustained virological response (SVR), early virology response (EVR), treatment end virology response (ETVR), biochemical response of withdrawals, and side effects. The SVR rate was 83.9% (52/62). The EVR rate was 95.2% (59/62). The ETVR rate was 87.1% (54/62). The biochemical response rate after withdrawal of treatment was 100.0%. Eight patients developed mildly abnormal thyroid function as a result of the interferon therapy, but all were able to complete the antiviral treatment regimen under the care of endocrinologists. Younger age, relatively short course of disease, low viral load, and better compliance, but not sex, were correlated to curative effect of the combination therapy. Interferon alpha 2 b plus ribavirin combination therapy had a significant curative effect on a group of 62 CHC patients originating from a single case, with 52 of the patients showing SVR out to 96 weeks after therapy. Antiviral treatment is recommended for hepatitis C virus-positive patients to eradicate the virus and prevent disease progression.

Chinese Journal of Radiology 2001;0(08):-
Objective To evaluate the imaging methods, characteristics, diagnostic value of multi- slice CT urography(MSCTU)in congenital abnormities of urinary system. Methods To collect 33 urinary congenital abnormities cases in three years and to analyses these MSCTU images. All examinations were performed with a multi-slice spiral CT scanner. The patients were intravenously injected with 90 ml of Iohexol 300 with a power injector at the rate of 3 ml/s.Nephrographic-phase images were obtained at 75 s after initiation of the injection of contrast material, the appropriate delay time is according to Kidney's enhancement extent and nephrohydrosis degree.Excretory-phase images were obtained through the abdomen and pelvis from 10 min.to 23 h after initiation of the injection of contrast material without abdominal compression.Excretory-phase images were transferred to the workstation and performed maximun intensity projection(MIP),multiplanar reconstruction(MPR),volume rendering(VR),and virtual cystoscopy (VC).Results The urinary congenital abnormities diagnosed by MSCTU in 33 cases, including 1 ectopic kidney,1 horseshoe kidney,1 renal malrotaion,2 supernumerary kidneys,2 ureteral valves,2 retrocaval ureters,4 congenital megaureters,6 ureteropelvic junction stenosis,9 pelviureteric duplication malformations and 5 bladder diverticula. The displaying rate of ureter was 91%(61/66).The scanning time of excretory-phase was less than 20 seconds in All cases. The average CT value of contrast media in displayed ureter lumens was 520 HU.The postprocessing images had clear, dimensional feature and It was satisfy the diagnosis. Conclusion MSCTU has clear, dimensional feature and has strong ability of displaying total anatomy shape and tiny pathology change of congenital abnormities in the urinary system. It is a very useful method for detecting the congenital abnormities in the urinary system.
