Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 1986;0(02):-
Objective To evaluate the effect of medicial and surgical treatment for juvenile hyperthyroidism. Methods Ortapazole was administ rated separately in drug therapy group for 1.5-2 years.Bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy was done in surgical therapy group. Results In drug therapy group, effective rate was 60 percent in 6 months and 70 percent in one year.Recurrence rate was 40 percent after drug withdrawal in 2 years curative rate was 60 percent. In surgical therapy group, the average stay in hospital was 16 days. There was no nerve injury, parathyroidal hypofunction, thyroid crisis or hypothyroidism complications, with 100 percent curative rate after 2 years′ followup.Postoperative growth and development were normal. Conclusions Surgical treatment may be suitable for those who have no response to drug therapy, with recurrence after drug withdrawal, whose compression symptom was obvious, with moderate and severe hyperthyroidism or those who could not take medicine persistently.Bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy applied in juvenile hyperthyroidism could achieve quick and better recovery, and has no influence on the juvenile growth and development.

Objective To evaluate therapeutic effects and toxicity of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)treated by combining chemotherapy on ifosfamide(IFO)and vinorelbine(NVB).Methods 107 cases pa- tients with advanced NSCLC were enrolled.IFO was given in a dosage of 1.5g/m~2 on day 1 to 4.and NVB in a dosage of 25mg/m~2 on day 1 and 8.It was repeated every three or four weeks,up to two to four cycles. Results Two patients had complete response and 40 patients had partial response. The overall response rate was 47.7% ,the median survival time 10.3 months,1-year and 2-year survival rate was 42% and 12.3%,respectively.The main toxicity was bone marrow suppression. Conclusion The regimen is effective, sale and tolerable in advanced non- small cell lung cancer therapy.

Objective The levels of Thl cytokines(IL-10 and IL-13)and Th2 cytokines(INF-? and TNF-?)were determined in the sera of patients with Schistosomiasis japonica in order to find the relationship between cytokines and severe hepatic fibrosis(HF)in schistosomiasis. Methods A total of 358 patients with advanced Schistosomiasis japonica were examined by ultrasound.68 HBsAg negative patients were chosen randomly as experimental control.Among them,39 patients were found to have mild HF and 29 were severe HF.The sera levels of Thl and Th2 cytokines were determined with ELISA.Results Among these 358 patients,83(23.2%)were HBsAg positive.Neither earlier nor severer hepatic fibrosis was noted in the patients who had been simultaneously infected with HBV than those only infected with schistosomiasis. There was a significant difference between mild[ 1.60(1.30-12.14)ng/L]and severe[ 4.20(1.43- 52.07)ng/L]HF patients in the level of IL-10(Z=-3.907,P0.05)was found in level of IFN-?,between severe[3.12(1.38-66.14)ng/L]and mild[5.87(1.33-216.33)ng/ L]HF subjects. Our observation did not reveal any obvious difference of TNF-? between severe[ 2.48(0.79 -19.86)ng/L]and mild[ 2.28(0.67-15.72)ng/L]HF groups. Conclusions Patients infected with advanced shistosomiasis may become more susceptible to HBV.The results of the present investigation showed that a high level production of IL-13 was associated with severe HF.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect and mechanism of prepared Radix Polygoni Multiflori (RPM) on the elevation of extracellular hydroxyl radical in striatum of rats induced by intracerebral perfusion of 6-hydroxy dopamine (6-OHDA).
METHODSCerebral microdialysis was used to establish the model. Hydroxyl radical was captured by salicylic acid, and 2,3-dihydroxy benzyl acid (2,3-DHBA) and 2,5-dihydroxy benzyl acid (2,5-DHBA) formed by hydroxyl radical in vital brain were measured by high performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical detector (HPLC-ED).
RESULTSAfter perfusion of 6-OHDA in brain of rats, the levels of 2,3-DHBA and 2,5-DHBA in the model group increased rapidly. The former was higher during the whole course of observation (P<0.01), while the latter was higher at most time points than that in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The level of 2,3-DHBA in the RPM group was lower than that in the model group at 5 time points (P < 0.05, P < 0. 01).
CONCLUSIONRPM could inhibit the elevating of extracellular hydroxyl radical in striatum of rats induced by intracerebral perfusion of 6-OHDA, indicating one of the brain protective mechanisms of RPM may be related to its anti-oxidation effect.
