Objective To analyze the clinical effects of 131I-HAb18F(ab')2 radioimmunotherapy via hepatic artery on PLC with portal vein tumor emboli. Methods Under the condition of thyroid protection and negative dermal sensitivity test, 12 times of intraarterial injection with 131I labeled murine HCC monoclonal antibody fragment HAb18F(ab')2 were performed in 8 patients of PLC complicated with portal vein tumor emboli. A 0.75 mCi/kg dose of 131I was administrated individually into certain target vessel after hepatic artery angiography using Seldinger technique. Results 3 of 7 patients with symptoms of pains showed remission with simultaneous improvement and stabilization in Karnofsky score in 3 and 4 patients respectively. AFP levels decreased about 50%(3/6)in 3 cases among those 6 positives and the values of I.B. and ALT changed within a very narrow range to a certain extent after the treatment. The overall rate of CR + PR was 28.6% and similar better result was obtained in a non-symptomatic diffuse PLC patient.1 year survival rate was 12.5%. Conclusion 131I-HAb18F(ab')2 radioimmunotreating drug(0.75 mCi/kg)with hypotoxicity to liver-function can be used as an acceptable method for unresectable PLC with portal vein tumor emboli, especially for those without tumor emboli in the main trunk.

BACKGROUND: A mass of unknown remains are founded in sodium hyaluronate product when it was tested for quality control. OBJECTIVE: To qualify and quantify unknown residual solvents of sodium hyaluronate product and determine hazardsaccording to standard toxicological data. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A quality and quantity study with combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry was performed at National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products from May to June 2007.MATERIALS: Experimental samples were spot-checked, and purified water was also used.METHODS: The samples were qualified and quantified using combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Methanol, xylene and ethyl benzene were qualified and quantified.RESULTS: Combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry demonstrated that residual solvents in the sodium hyaluronateproducts were methanol, xylene, and ethyl benzene. The quantization of methanol was 414.365 μg/mL, the quantization of o-xylene was 0.19 μg/mL, and the quantization of ethyl benzene was 0.22 μg/mL. CONCLUSION: Methanol, xylene, and ethyl benzene were firstly identified as residual solvents in sodium hyaluronate products. Besides, we discussed methods of qualifying and quantifying these three residual solvents.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study was to observe the healing process of palate wound with denuded bone restored with transplanted buccal or palatal mucosa and to elucidate the mechanism of maxillary growth inhibition following palate repair.
METHODS32 Japan white rabbits, 5 weeks old, were selected as the subjects for this study. They were divided into 4 groups at random. The rabbits in group I was the control without receiving any treatment. The rabbits in group II, III, IV was surgically denuded the bone of palate, and afterwards, the rabbits in group II were not received further restoration, but rabbits in group III and IV were restored with transplanted buccal and palatal mucosa respectively. From 2 to 14 weeks after surgery, at regular intervals, palatal wounds were observed by using a light microscope. Histological changes were also compared among different groups.
RESULTSIt was found in group II that dense connective tissue was formed 2 weeks after the surgery, and Sharpey's fibers was formed between the scar and bone tissue 4 weeks after the surgery. However, no Sharpey's fiber was found in group III and group IV, and in the latter two groups, the histological character of tissue was similar to that of the control.
CONCLUSIONPrevention of the attachment of Sharpey's fibers to the palatal bone could be effectively accomplished by covering the denuded palatal bone with the transplanted buccal or palatal mucosa.

Sinisan is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating various diseases; however, the in vivo metabolic profile of its multiple components remains unknown. In this paper, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) was applied to identify the metabolites of Sinisan extract in rat plasma, urine, feces and bile after intragastric administration. Using MS(E) and mass defect filter techniques, 41 metabolites of 10 parent compounds (naringin, naringenin, hesperidin, neohesperidin, liquiritin, liquiritigenin, glycyrrhizic acid, glycyrrhetinic acid, saikosaponin a and saikosaponin d) were detected and tentatively identified. It was shown by our results that these compounds was metabolized to the forms of hydroxylation, glucuronidation, sulfation, glucuronidation with sulfation and glucuronidation with hydroxylation in vivo.

Objective To investigate CT findings of hepatic necrosis and regeneration after liver failure. Methods Five patients with liver failure underwent CT scan before orthotopic liver transplantation. These findings were retrospectively reviewed and correlated with gross specimen and pathologic findings obtained after transplantation. Results Among 5 cases, the CT appearances of liver failure can be divided into 3 types.(1)Massive confluent aggregate foci in 2 patients demonstrated low attenuation and high attenuation as geographical patlerns on CT scans before contrast enhancement.respectively.The histopathological liver changes showed massive necrosis and regencratinn. Regions of necrosis enhanced to attenuation greater than that of normal liver parenchyma in portal-venous phase, the regions of regeneration enhanced to attenuation greater than that of normal liver parenchyma in arterial phase on postcontrast CT images.(2)In 2 patients, diffuse nodules of liver demonstrated high attenuation on plain CT scans, which was nodular necrosis and nodular regeneration pathologically. All enhanced to attenuation greater than that of normal liver parenchyma in arterial phase. The former showed hypointensity in portal-venous phase and equilibrium phase. The latter enhanced to attenuation equal to that of normal liver parenchyma in portalvenous phase and equilibrium phase on postcontrast CT images.(3)Multiple small foci in 1 case demonstrated low attenuatiun on precontrast CT images and enhanced to hyperintensity in portal-venous phase and isointensity in arterial phase and equilibrium phase on postcontrast CT images. The histopathological liver changes showed multiple necrosis. Conclusion Liver failure may reveal characteristic imaging patterns at CT.
