Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2010;29(8):632-634
Objective To explore the risk factors of coronary artery plaque progression and the clinical indexes that could predict plaque progression. Methods The 142 patients had twice coronary artery angiographs were enrolled in this study. Quantitative coronary angiography (QCA)was performed to evaluate angiographs at baseline and follow-up. Results According to the changes of minimum lumen diameter (MLD) in twice angiographs being or not more than 0.4 mm, the patients were divided into plaque progression group (n=54) and non-plaque progression group (n=88). The incidences of myocardial infarction (MI) and diabetes were significantly higher in plaque progression group than in non-plaque progression group [27.8% vs. 5.7%, 63.0% vs. 36.4%], and the serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP, 14.5 mg/L vs. 6.3 mg/L) and neutrophil (6.6×109/L vs. 4.3×109/L) were also significantly higher. The incidence of coronary artery plaque progression in patients with high hs-CRP level was 2.52 times higher than in patients with low hs-CRP level, and the incidence in patients with myocardial infarction was 3.98 times as much as patients without MI. Conclusions The hs-CRP and myocardial infarction were the independent risk factors for coronary artery plaque progression.

Objective:To study the change rule of rats'pulse waves after kidney resection. Methods:To collect the pulse waves of femoral artery in each side of rats in Drugged state. Then do one-side kidney resection operation, after fully recover from it,collect the pulse waves again. To average the pulse waves in the same cycle length and then do the LSQ regression by 6 harmonics which are correspond with the cycle lengths, analyze the phase and the amplitude of vibration of fundamental wave and harmonics by statistical method. Results:The amplitude of vibration of the 3rd harmonics of pulse waves of femoral artery in the same side with operation and the amplitude of vibration of the 1st to 5th harmonics of pulse waves of femoral artery in the other side with operation has reinforced, the phase of the 1st and 2nd harmonics also have changed regularly. Conclusion:There're some regular changes in the pulse waves of rats after one-side kidney resection operation, which shows that the pulse waves of artery on the body surface can reflect the splanchnic changes. This research can offer some scientific foundation to the pulse-diagnosis in TCM.

OBJECTIVE: To confirm the efficacy and safety of latanoprost in treating glaucoma.METHODS: In a double blind, randomized control clinical trial, we compared the efficacy and adverse drug reactions of once daily topically applied 0.005% latanoprost with those of twice daily 0.5% timolol for 12 weeks in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.RESULTS: The study included 46 patients(22 pts.randomized to latanoprost treatment, 24 pts.to timolol) , 46 patients remained at the end of the study.Comparing with baseline diurnal intraocular pressure(IOP) , the IOP reduction(mean±standard deviation) achieved with latanoprost(7.86±2.39) mmHg, (31.1%, P<0.001),and timolol(6.24±2.58)mmHg (24.9%,P<0.001),the difference between the two groups(1.62mmHg) being significant(P<0.01). Two patients treated with latanoprost had foreign body sensation. No other ocular and systemic adverse reactions related to the two drugs were found. CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrated that 0.005% latanoprost applied once daily is well tolerated and more effective in reducing IOP than 0.5% timolol applied twice daily. Thus, latanoprost has the potential for becoming one of the ideal antiglaucoma drugs.

Objective To investigate the clinicopathogenical significance of phosphorylation type of c-jun N-terminal kinase(p-JNK)and muhidmg resistance protein P-glycopretein(P-gP),multidrug resistance proteinl(MRP1)and lung resistance protein(LRP)in gastric cancer. Methods The expression of p-JNK,P-gP,MRP1 and LRP was detected in a tissue microarray containing 168 spots of gastric cancer tissue and 27 spots of normal gastric tissue by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive expression rate of p-JNK,P-gp,MRP1 and LRP in gastric cancer wag 45.8%,51.8%,45.8%and 55.4%respectively,which Was significantly higher than that in normal gastric tissue(P<0.05).The p-JNK expression correlated with depth of invasion(P<0.01),histology grade(P<0.05),vessel invasion (P<0.01),lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis(P<0.01).The expression of p-JNK,P-gp and MRP1 in a positive relationship(P<0.05).Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a significant impact on survival by p-JNK,P-gp and MRPl(P<0.05). Conclusion The p-JNK expression in gastric cancer is correlated with malignant biological behavior and may be involved in the chemotherapeutic resistance by upregulating the expression of P-g[ and MRP1.

Objective To discuss the clinical value of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in the brain vascular malformations. Methods Imaging data of 34 patients with brain vascular malformations proved by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or pathology obtained on Siemens Sonata 1.5T MR system were studied prospectively, and compared with those of conventional MRI (cMRI) and SWI. Results All 41 lesions of 34 patients with brain vascular malformations showed clearly by SWI. These patients were diagnosed by surgical findings or DSA. These nidus comprised 19 cavernous angiomas, 9 arteriovenous malformations and 6 cerebral venous malformations. Conclusion SWI should be used for clinical diagnosis of brain vascular malformations, and providing more complete and detailed information combining with other sequence.

OBJECTIVE: To optimize the formula and preparation technology of gel-matrix sustained release tablet of nicotinic acid(GSTNA).METHODS: The formula of GSTNA was optimized by orthogonal experiment with the amount of hydrophilic gel-matrix material HPMC(K15M,E15-LV) and that of adjuvant calcium hydrogen phosphate(CHP) as factors and with the in vitro release rates as index.Meanwhile, the verification test on the intra-and inter-batch release rates of the samples was performed.RESULTS: The optimum formula could be seen as follows: the ratios of HPMC(K15M,E15-LV) and CHP were 4%,40% and 25% respectively. The GSTNA prepared in this formula achieved a sustained drug release of up to 12 h,and both the intra-batch homogenicity and the inter-batch reproducibility were satisfactory.CONCLUSION: The GSTNA is reasonable in formula and simple in preparation technology.

It is generally believed that liposomes modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) have no or lower immunogenicity. However, based on many recent literatures, when the PEGylated liposomes were repeatedly applied to the same animal, the immune responses occurred. The first injection of PEGylated liposomes resulted in a reduction in the circulation time and an increase in hepatic and splenic accumulation of the second dose of PEGylated liposomes in a time-interval, which was called "accelerated blood clearance (ABC)" phenomenon. Such immunogenicity of PEGylated liposomes presents a barrier in the research of liposomal formulations and their use in the clinics. This review focused on the definition, the method of verification, the development of the reason for ABC phenomenon, influencing factors of ABC phenomenon, and discussed if other PEGylated nanocarriers also induce ABC phenomenon.

Angiogenesis is an important pathophysiological process of body response after cerebral ischemia.Angiogenesis is activated in a few hours after cerebral ischemia. It can promote neuronal remodeling and neurological function recovery.Studies have shown that the microvessel density is positively correlated with the long-term survival rate in patients with stroke after cerebral ischemia. This article reviews the regulatory mechanisms and imaging evaluation of angiogenesis after cerebral ischemia.
