1.Anthropometric Measurements of Soft-Tissue Orbits in Korean Newborns.

PURPOSE: To establish a database of the anthropometric measurements of soft-tissue orbits in Korean newborns. METHODS: A total of 69 normal term newborns (39 males, 30 females) in the first 48 hours after delivery, were included in the present study. Anthropometric measurements of soft-tissue orbits were taken with vernier calipers by one of the authors. With eyes closed, horizontal eyelid fissure length (HFL), lower lid height (LLH), upper lid height (ULH), intercanthal distance (ICD), and inter-outercanthal distance (IOCD) were measured and with eyes opened with a speculum, the interpupillary distance (IPD) was measured. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between either sex or between the right and left eyes. HFL was 20.8 +/- 1.2 mm, LLH and ULH were 11.1 +/- 2.3 and 16.5 +/- 2.5 mm, respectively; ICD, IPD, and IOCD were 22.9 +/- 2.1 mm, 39.8 +/- 3.0 mm, and 65.3 +/- 5.8 mm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Anthropometric measurements of normal Korean newborns' soft-tissue orbits in the present study can be used as basic data for the proper evaluation and growth of soft-tissue orbits.

2.Four Cases of 0.625% Povidone-Iodine Intravitreal Injection Followed by Vitrectomy for Acute Endophthalmitis after Cataract Surgery: Case Report

Purpose:
We sought to report the results of 0.625%/0.1 mL of povidone–iodine (PI) intravitreal injection (0.013% PI vitreous concentration) for treating acute endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.Case summary: Case 1 developed acute endophthalmitis one day after cataract surgery. Prompt intervention with PI injection and vitrectomy led to full resolution of inflammation and a visual acuity of 0.8, and the patient remained stable at 10 months. Case 2, a patient with persistent post-cataract inflammation, was treated with PI injection and vitrectomy, resulting in complete resolution of inflammation and improvement of visual acuity to 0.6 by eight months. Case 3 was a diabetic patient who experienced severe acute endophthalmitis.The patient was treated with the above intervention, resulting in full resolution of endophthalmitis; however, he eventually lost vision due to neovascular glaucoma. Case 4 developed recurrent endophthalmitis caused by Achromobacter xylosoxidans after cataract surgery. This patient required multiple vitrectomies, PI injections, and intraocular lens removal, which led to a resolution of inflammation and restoration of visual acuity to 1.0 after 14 months.
Conclusions
0.625%/0.1-mL IPI injection followed by vitrectomy was performed in four acute endophthalmitis patients after cataract surgery and were successfully treated.
3.A Case of Ocular Toxocariasis Successfully Treated with Albendazole and Triamcinolon.

We present a case of ocular toxocariasis treated successfully with oral albendazole in combination with steroids. A 26-year-old male visited the authors' clinic with the chief complaint of flying flies in his right eye. The fundus photograph showed a whitish epiretinal scar, and the fluorescein angiography revealed a hypofluorescein lesion of the scar and late leakage at the margin. An elevated retinal surface and posterior acoustic shadowing of the scar were observed in the optical coherence tomography, and Toxocara IgG was positive. The patient was diagnosed with toxocariasis, and the condition was treated with albendazole (400 mg twice a day) for a month and oral triamcinolone (16 mg for 2 weeks, once a day, and then 8 mg for 1 week, once a day) from day 13 of the albendazole treatment. The lesions decreased after the treatment. Based on this study, oral albendazole combined with steroids can be a simple and effective regimen for treating ocular toxocariasis.
