1.A propos 3 cases of duodenopancreatectomy
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2003;0(6):35-37
To cut duodenopancreatectomy currently is not a technical issue but must be administrate in each special operation case. To prepare good conditions for the patient as well as surgeon and anesthetizer team will bring the success for the operation. The operation has solved the targets such as: no pain, good appetite, and normal constipation, weight gaining, good body recover to bring the patient a normal life and improve their life’s quality

2.Evaluate the results of Frey’s operation in treating chronic pancreatitis lithiasis
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2004;0(1):30-33
Background: Chronic pancreatitis lithiasis is a common disease. The diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis is based on medical history, clinical examination and paraclinical methods such as blood biochemical test, CT scan, ultrasound, etc… Objective: The aim of this multicenter study was to report the short term results of the Frey procedure in treatment of chronic pancreatitis. Subject and Method: During the timescale between January 2002 to September 2007, Frey procedures were performed on chronic pancreatitis in 7 hospitals. This study included 41 men (93.2%) and 3 women (6.8%) with the mean age of 43.10 +/- 11.24. Surgery was indicated for abdominal pain in all patients requiring opiates, with a weight loss of 100% (44 patients). Results: There was no mortality. Postoperative surgical complications occurred in 5 patients. 4 patients had bleeding requiring operation, 3 patients had surgical infections without requiring intervention, no complication of pancreas fistula and CP. 40 patients had complete pain relief. Conclusion: Frey’s operation is a safe procedure with low mortality and complication.

3.Dnodeno pancreas tectomy surgery: A propose of pancrea head cancer case
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2003;2():37-39
Dnodeno pancreas tectomy (Whipple surgery) is a rare surgery, in dicated mainly in pancrea head cancer (15-20%) in Europe and America. The head of pancrea, the duodenim, distant part of stomach and a past of jejunum were removed, digestive tract was recoustructed according child improvingly. A male patient of 45 year old age undergone the surgery in St. Paul Hospital. Post-operation: no pain, normal diet, normal urine. Discharged after 11 days, it is a complicated surgery with great risks, therefore it is necessary to prepare well pre-ocupationally. Advance anesthesia and resussitation, the technical improvements had contributed more in the success with a mortality of < 3%

4.Hemorrhoidectomy with CO2 laser
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2003;0(3):37-38
31 hemorrhoids patients (6 females, 25 males, aged 22-80) was undergone hemorrhoidectomy with CO2 laser by the method of Milligan-Morgan. From Sep 2000 to May 2001, there were 4 patients at III hemorrhoids, 13 patients at IV hemorrhoids, 7 rounded hemorrhoids, and 7 patients with other anal-rectal diseases such as polyp, anal fistula, and anal fissure. Using CO2 laser helps shortening the duration of treatment, patients had a quicker recovery and earlier returned to normal life

5.The treatment of biliary calculus in the elderly
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2004;0(7):36-39
Authors studied the roles and outcomes of treatments for 98 elder patients with biliary calculus at St Paul Hospital. 16 patients were undergone emergency operation, and 43 patients were undergone elective operation, among them 9 patients received emergency treatments because of complications of biliary calculus. Conclusions: common treatment biliary calculus in the elderly was operation; however, the indication was given early and appropriately in case of patient was very old or too weak. In addition, evaluating patient’s situation before surgery by ASA’s method was very effective to choose correct treatment

6.About 12 duodenal lesions at Saint-Paul Hospital from 1993 to 1997
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2004;0(8):27-29
This retrospective study was carried out on 12 duodenal traumas operated at the Department of Surgery, Saint Paul Hospital, Hanoi between 1993 and 1997, including 3 cases of simple duodenal lesions and 9 cases duodenal lesions with pancreatic lesions and other organs. Diagnoses were based on clinical symptoms, exploring methods and treatment of American abdominal trauma surgery and Moore. All cases operated duodenal trauma of I-IV degree were abdominal drainaged

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To compare the performance of a modified Glasgow Blatchford score (mGBS) to the Glasgow Blatchford score (GBS) and the pre-endoscopic Rockall score (RS) in predicting clinical interventions in Vietnamese patients with acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AN-VUGIB). METHODS: A prospective multicenter cohort study was conducted in five tertiary hospitals from May 2013 to February 2014. The mGBS, GBS, and pre-endoscopic RS scores were prospectively calculated for all patients. The accuracy of mGBS was compared with that of GBS and pre-endoscopic RS using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Clinical interventions were defined as blood transfusions, endoscopic or radiological intervention, or surgery. RESULTS: There were 395 patients including 128 (32.4%) needing endoscopic treatment, 117 (29.6%) requiring blood transfusion and two (0.5%) needing surgery. In predicting the need for clinical intervention, the mGBS (AUC, 0.707) performed as well as the GBS (AUC, 0.708; p=0.87) and outperformed the pre-endoscopic RS (AUC, 0.594; p<0.001). However, none of these scores effectively excluded the need for endoscopic intervention at a threshold of 0. CONCLUSIONS: mGBS performed as well as GBS and better than pre-endoscopic RS for predicting clinical interventions in Vietnamese patients with ANVUGIB.

Sphaeranthus africanus is commonly used as a traditional remedy for sore throats and pain treatment in Vietnam. The aerial parts have been studied for its anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties. However, the antioxidant and antidiabetic potential of the plant has not been explored. In this work, hydrophilic extracts of the plant's aerial parts were prepared in order to investigate its antioxidant and anti-diabetic properties. Also, the cytotoxicity of the root was evaluated and compared to that of the aerial parts. All of the extracts inhibited lipid peroxidation with IC 50 values ranging from 2.05 to 3.56 µg/mL, indicating substantial antioxidant activity. At an IC 50 value of 4.80 μg/mL, the 50% ethanol extract exhibited the most potent inhibition of α-glucosidase. The cytotoxic activity of root extracts is 2 to 5-fold less than that of the aerial parts. Nevertheless, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts of the root demonstrated a selective effect on leukemia cells, with no harm towards the normal HEK-293 cell line. This work provides a scientific support for the antioxidant and antidiabetic activity of the plant. Hence, it may find a promising material for the development of novel antioxidant and antidiabetic agents. More research can be conducted on the phytochemistry and anticancer activities of the plant’s root.
