Objective To monitor the epidemic status of human soil-borne nematodiasis in Danyang City, so as to provide scientific evidence for formulating control measures. Methods The soil-borne nematode infections were tested using a modified Kato-Katz technique among residents aged more than 3 years living in Danyang City from 2012 to 2018, and the Enterobius vermicularis eggs were detected using the transparent adhesive tape anal swab method among children at ages of 3 to 12 years. Results A total of 13 540 residents were monitored for soil-borne nematode infections from 2012 to 2018, and the prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections was 0.45%. The prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichura and Enterobius vermicularis infections was 0.32%, 0.12% and 0.01%, respectively, and a single parasite infection was predominant. There were significant differences in the prevalence of soil-borne nematode (χ2 = 42.610, P < 0.05), A. lumbricoides (χ2 = 26.276, P < 0.05) and T. trichura (χ2 = 20.692, P < 0.05). The prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections was 0.45% in males and 0.47% in females, and lower prevalence was found in local residents than in floating population (0.28% vs. 0.66%; χ2 = 10.561, P < 0.05). The highest infection was found in subjects at ages of 31 to 40 years (0.59%), followed by in subjects at ages of 41 to 50 years (0.56%), and the lowest infection was seen in children at ages of 3 to 5 years (0.27%). In addition, the prevalence of human soilborne nematode infections varied significantly in occupation (χ2 = 75.692, P < 0.05), with the highest infection seen in boatmen. Among the 5 078 children monitored, the prevalence of E. vermicularis infection was 0.37%, and the prevalence of E. vermicularis infection varied significantly in year (χ2= 15.466, P < 0.05). Conclusion The human soil-borne nematode infection is at a low level in Danyang City; however, the surveillance of soil-borne nematodiasis remains to be intensified in children living in rural areas and immigrant populations.

Objective To investigate the changes of protein and energy intakes and the z-score of weight for age in appropriate for gestational age (AGA) and small for gestational age (SGA) preterm infants with gestational age less than 34 weeks. Methods The data from 314 hospitalized premature infants ( 268 cases of AGA and 46 cases of SGA) during January 2012 to December 2014 were retrospectively collected. The intakes of protein and energy and the changes of weight within 2 weeks after birth were compared. Results Compared with AGA group, the hospital stays, durations of parenteral and enteral nutrition and total enteral nutrition, and time to achieve full dose feeding were signiifcantly longer in SGA group (P?0 . 05 ). The energy intakes on day 4 , 8 , and 12 after birth in SGA group was obviously lower than in AGA group;the protein intakes on day 6 and 8 in SGA group was also obviously lower than in AGA group (P?0 . 05 ). The daily average weight gain was signiifcantly higher in SGA group than that in AGA group (P?0 . 05 ). The z-score of weight for age was gradually away from the median level in both AGA group and SGA group within 2 weeks after birth. Moreover, the z-score of weight for age at 2 weeks was lower in SGA group than that in AGA group (P?0 . 05 ). Conclusions The growth velocity in SGA premature infants was faster than that in AGA premature infants with gestation age lower than 34 weeks after recovery of birth weight. There was catch-up growth to some extent. However, the growth of SGA and AGA premature infants need to be improved.

To explore the effect of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) on the micro-structure of bone in older men. A retrospective study was conducted on data of patients over the age of 60 who were admitted to the Geriatric Department of Jiangsu People′s Hospital from June 2018 to January 2019. Patients were divided into control group (taking PPI for less than 1 week, 50 cases) and PPI treatment group (taking PPI for more than 3 months, 30 cases). Biochemical indexes, bone mineral density (BMD)and trabecular bone score (TBS) were analyzed. Compared with control group, the weight and albumin level in the PPI treatment group were lower, and the thyrotropin level was higher ( P<0.05). There was no statistical difference in the BMD of femur or lumbar vertebrae between the two groups ( P>0.05), but the TBS of lumbar vertebrae in the PPI treatment group was significantly decreased ( P<0.05). Correlation analysis found that TBS was positively correlated with alkaline phosphatase (ALP) ( r=0.45, P=0.002) and body mass index ( r=0.164, P=0.045), and negatively correlated with age ( r=-0.291, P=0.025). Multiple linear regression model analysis showed that there was still a positive correlation between TBS and ALP ( β=0.437, P=0.023). In the elderly men, the use of PPI for more than 3 months can significantly affect the bone micro-structure, and the bone micro-structure can better reflect the adverse effect of PPI on bone than BMD.

Chinese Journal of Perinatal Medicine 2018;21(6):401-407
Objective:
To explore the mechanisms of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) expression regulated by recombinant human erythropoietin (rh-EPO) in a premature rat model of periventricular white matter damage.
Methods:
Sprague-Dawley rats aged three days were randomly divided into five groups: sham group without hypoxia-ischemia (HI), HI group (HI with saline administration), HI+erythropoietin (EPO) group, HI+erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) antagonist group and HI+EPO+EPOR antagonist group. Rat pups were either subjected to permanent ligation of the right common carotid artery and 6% O2+94% N2 for two hours (HI) or sham operated and exposed to normal air (sham). After the operation, rats in the HI+EPOR antagonist and HI+EPO+EPOR antagonist groups received a single intraventricular injection of EPOR antagonist (5 μl). Four hours after the operation, rats in the HI+EPO and HI+EPO+EPOR antagonist groups received a single intraperitoneal injection of rh-EPO (5 U/g). Western-blot was performed to detect EPOR, phosphorylated EPOR (p-EPOR), extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK) and phosphorylated ERK (p-ERK) at 60 and 90 minutes after the models were established successfully, and also used to analyze the expression of VECFR2 on day 2 and 4. Analysis of variance and SNK test were used as statistical methods.
Results:
At 60 and 90 minutes after model establishment, the expression of EPOR protein in rat brain tissues was increased in HI (1.717±0.206 and 1.416±0.242), HI+EPO (2.557±0.222 and 2.111±0.159) and HI+EPO+EPOR antagonist (1.547±0.170 and 1.452±0.250) groups as compared with that in sham group (1.095±0.182 and 0.751±0.136), that in HI+EPO group was higher than that in HI and HI+EPO+EPOR antagonist groups, and that in HI+EPOR antagonist group (1.088±0.160 and 1.020±0.174) was lower than that in HI group. All differences were statistically significant (

Objective To evaluate the effect of sevoflurane preconditioning on the expression of metabotropic glutamate receptor type Ⅱ( mGluRⅡ) during focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion ( I∕R) in rats. Methods Forty-eight clean-grade healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups (n=16 each) using a random number table method: sham operation group ( group S), cerebral I∕R group (group I∕R) and sevoflurane preconditioning group (group Sev). Rats were anesthetized with 10% chloral hydrate 3 ml∕kg. Focal cerebral I∕R was produced by occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery for 2 h fol-lowed by 24 h reperfusion. In group Sev, 2. 7% sevoflurane was inhaled for 1 h and 24 h later focal cerebral I∕R was produced. At 24 h after reperfusion, neurological deficit was scored, the cerebral infarct size was determined by TTC staining, the cell apoptosis in ischemic penumbra was observed by TUNEL, IκB-α ex-pression was detected by Western blot, and mGluRⅡexpression was determined by immunofluorescent stai-ning. The apoptosis rate was calculated. Results Compared with group S, the neurological deficit score, cerebral infarct size and apoptosis rate were significantly increased, the expression of mGluRⅡwas up-regu-lated, and the expression of IκB-α was down-regulated in I∕R and Sev groups ( P<0. 05). Compared with group I∕R, the neurological deficit score, cerebral infarct size and apoptosis rate were significantly de-creased, the expression of mGluRⅡwas down-regulated, and the expression of IκB-α was up-regulated in group Sev (P<0. 05). Conclusion Sevoflurane preconditioning reduces focal cerebral I∕R injury through inhibiting the expression of mGluRⅡ in rats.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and prognostic factors of palliative radiotherapy for advanced gastric cancer. Methods:From January 2013 to December 2018, the clinical data of 390 patients with advanced gastric cancer in the Cancer Center of Wuhan Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology were collected. Patients were divided into two groups—combined chemoradiotherapy group ( n=95) and chemotherapy alone group ( n=295) according to the treatment method. Patients were followed up by outpatient reviews, phone calls or text messages at regular intervals. The clinical efficacy and prognostic factors of palliative radiotherapy in patients with advanced gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed. Results:The median survival time and the 6-month, 1-year, 2-year survival rates of combined chemoradiotherapy group and chemotherapy alone group were respectively 28.07 months versus 11.27 months, 89.0% versus 69.0%, 68.0% versus 40.0%, 51.0% versus 15.0%. The survival rate of the combined chemoradiotherapy group was significantly higher than that of the chemotherapy alone group ( χ2=27.400, P<0.001). The median survival time of the combined chemoradiotherapy group was significantly longer than that of chemotherapy alone group in both 289 first-time diagnosed patients ( χ2=23.681, P<0.001) and 101 recurrent gastric cancer patients ( χ2=5.164, P=0.023), with median survival time being 28.07 months versus 11.47 months and 16.37 months versus 10.53 months respectively. Chemotherapy regimen before radiotherapy ( χ2=7.019, P=0.030), disease control before radiotherapy ( χ2=4.689, P=0.030), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score before radiotherapy ( χ2=8.529, P=0.014) and radiotherapy area ( χ2=4.763, P=0.029) were factors influencing the prognosis of patients with advanced gastric cancer undergoing palliative radiotherapy. Multivariate analysis showed that ECOG score ( HR=2.252, 95% CI: 1.288-3.935, P=0.004) and disease control before radiotherapy ( HR=2.604, 95% CI: 1.183-5.730, P=0.017) were independent prognostic factors. Conclusion:The efficacy of combined chemoradio-therapy is significantly better than chemotherapy alone in both first-time diagnosed and recurrent advanced gastric cancer. Chemotherapy regimen before radiotherapy, disease control before radiotherapy, ECOG score before radiotherapy and radiotherapy area are factors influencing the prognosis of patients with advanced gastric cancer undergoing palliative radiotherapy. ECOG score and disease control before radiotherapy are independent prognostic factors.
