OBJECTIVETo analyze the curative effects and feasibility of the self regulating simple localizer through anterior approach for the treatment of odontoid fracture in adults.
METHODSFrom June 2010 and December 2012, 6 patients with odontoid fracture underwent an anterior operation using a single hollow screw located by the self regulating simple localizer. There were 4 males and 2 females, aged from 28 to 55 years old with an average of 39.1 years. The injuries were caused by traffic accidents in 4 cases and falling injury from high in 2 cases. According to the classification of Anderson, 4 cases were type II and 2 cases were simple type III. All the patients underwent operations in 5 to7 days after injury with the mean of 5.9 days. None of the patients had a spinal cord injury. The safety and feasibility of the self made localizer were observed in follow up for fracture healing and clinical effects.
RESULTSAll the operations were successful with an average time of 50 min (ranged from 45 to 55 min) and the mean bleeding volume was 25 ml(ranged from 20 to 30 ml). No injuries of esophagus, trachea or nerve were found. All the patients were followed up from 8 to 16 months and all fractures were obtained bone healing. The flexion extension radiograph showed a well stability of atlantoaxial joint in last followed up.
CONCLUSIONSThe self regulating simple localizer is a minimally invasive, short time and safe method in treating odontoid fractures through anterior operation with hollow screw. It may be a reliable choice while without a professional localizer.

OBJECTIVETo design a new type two-head automatic pressure external fixator and explore its clinical effects in treating intertrochanteric fracture of the femur.
METHODSBase on unilateral angulated external fixator and Ilizarov techiques, a new type two-head automatic pressure external fixator were designed and made. From October 2006 to December 2010, 120 patients with intertrochanteric fracture of the femur were treated with the new type two-head automatic pressure external fixator. There were 67 males and 53 females with an average age of 76.7 years (ranged, 60 to 93 years). According to Evans classification, type I was in 65 cases, type II in 41, type III a in 10, type III b in 2 and type IV in 2. Operative time was from 0 to 11 days after injury with an average 5 days. Postoperative functional recovery was evaluated according to criteria of Sanders.
RESULTSAmong 120 patients, 116 cases were followed up with an average of 12 months (ranged, 2 to 24 months). All fractures obtained healing with average healing time of 12 weeks (ranged, 10 to 13 weeks). Five cases occurred with superficial infection of pin site and no deep infection,non-union, coxa adducta were found. Joint function of hip recovered well. According to Sanders scoring, pain, walking, function, muscle strength, daily activities and X-ray estimate were respectively (9.07 +/- 0.41), (9.23 +/- 1.00), (9.42 +/- 1.10), (9.31 +/- 1.06), (9.22 +/- 1.03), (10.00 +/- 0.00) with total amount of (56.27 +/- 4.16). A hundred and six cases got an excellent results, 6 good, 4 poor.
CONCLUSIONThe new type two-head automatic pressure external fixator is easy and convenient to apply in operation. It has duplicate functions of load and minimal invasive. It is an ideal method for treatment of the intertrochanteric fracture of the femur in high-risk and senile patients.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the mechanical characteristics of new type two-head automatic pressure external fixator in the view of biomechanics.
METHODSFifteen fresh and humid specimens were selected and divided into experimental group (5 cases) and control group (10 cases). The control group were respectively applied with DHS (5 cases) and traditional external fixator (5 cases). In order to compare the different apparatus, the strength, stiffness and twist mechanical function of femoral intertrochanteric fracture with different device were measured respectively when the specimens were under the pressure of 0-1800 N and loading speed 1.4 mn/min.
RESULTSThe strength, stiffness, twist mechanical function and maximum endurance of femora in the experimental group were obviously superior than that of DHS and traditional external fixator (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONTwo head automatic new type pressure external fixator can embed more tightly without sliding, also can prevent the occurrence of coxa vara effectively.

OBJECTIVETo preliminary assess the efficacy of's extraordinary acupoints for the ovarian function of polycystic ovary syndrome.
METHODSFifty-six patients were randomized into an acupuncture group and a western medication group. In the acupuncture group, the acupoints were Fuke, Huanchao, Tianhuang (Yinlingquan, SP 9), Renhuang (Sanyinjiao, SP 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zigong (EX-CA 1). The treatment was used twice a week for continuous 12 weeks. In the western medication group, patients were given diane-35 for 3 menstrual cycles, once a day for 21 days with 7 days between the two sessions. The ratio of luteinizing hormone/flitropin (LH/FSH) was taken as the primary index, while the secondary indices were serum testosterone (T), FSH, LH, body mass index (BMI), the condition of ovary and menstruation.
RESULTS①After treatment, the ratio of LH/FSH declined in both the two groups (<0.05,<0.01). The decreasing values of the two groups were not significantly different (>0.05). ②T, LH and BMI dropped in the two groups (<0.05,<0.01). The decreasing values of the three indices between the two groups were not significantly different (all>0.05). ③The size of ovary did not change significantly after treatment in the two groups (both>0.05), but the reduction degree of ovary size of the acupuncture group was larger than that of the western medication group (<0.05). The ovary number of more than 10 foliiculi in single ovary in the acupuncture group reduced compared with that before treatment (<0.05). The reduction degree of ovary number with the above feature was not significantly different between the two groups (>0.05). ④The times and days of menstruation within 3 months increased significantly in the two groups (all<0.01), without significance of different valves between the two groups (both>0.05).
CONCLUSIONS 's extraordinary acupoints could improve the ovarian function of polycystic ovary syndrome, whose effect is similar as diane-35.
