BACKGROUND:There are numerous studies about mechanical changes of recast cobalt-chromium ceramic al oys. However, little is reported on the mechanical properties of cobalt-chromium ceramic al oys containing once-used al oys after recasts.
OBJECTIVE:To study the effects of different proportion of once-used al oys to recasting cobalt-chromium al oys on their mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and hardness.
METHODS:Cobalt-chromium al oys cast samples were prepared and recast for three times (40%once-used al oys were added per time). The tensile strength, 0.2%yield strength, percentage of elongation, flexural strength and Vickers hardness of each specimen were measured. In addition, microscopic metal ographic observation was done.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Being recast for three times, cobalt-chromiun al oys showed no significant differences on their tensile strength, 0.2%yield strength, percentage of elongation, flexural strength and Vickers hardness. GenerationⅠal oy samples had uniform size, smal diameter and smal carbide size distributing along the grain boundary, mainly exhibiting spherical and irregular wormlike forms. Generations Ⅱ and Ⅲ samples were uniform in shape, but crystal grains were coarsened a little. Carbide from Generation IV samples began to be coarsened, irregular wormlike carbides were increased in amount, and a few of non-metal ic inclusions could be found in grains. Cobalt-chromium al oys can be recast after addition of 40%once-used al oys for three times at least in air environment, without decrease of the mechanical properties.

The safflower floret is a traditional Chinese medicine used to promote blood circulation and remove obstruction in the channels. The spines on its bracts are considered a handicap when manual harvest is involved. In this study, cDNA-SRAP was used to systematically investigate which genes are associated with the spines. Sixty pairs of possible primer combinations were used on two cDNA pools representing spininess and spinelessness. Six transcript-derived fragments were identified, of which two with low recombination were sequenced successfully and named as GPY-1 and GPY-2. By using the RACE method, the full-length cDNA of GPY-2 is cloned and named as CTL-spn. The full-length cDNA of CTL-spn was 1 679 bp long with a 1 524 bp ORF encoding a 508 aminoacid protein. The deduced amino acid sequence of the CTL-spn gene shared a high homology (97%) with other known ATP synthase CF1 alpha subunits. Semiquantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed that the mRNA of GPY-1 and GPY-2 accumulated in only spiny lines. Considering the important role of ATP synthase CF1 alpha subunit in plants, it may directly take part in the formation process of spininess and enhancing resistance reaction of spiny safflower. Also, our results provide the important insights for breeding spineless cultivars of safflower.

Molecular engineering of cellulases can improve enzymatic activity and efficiency. Recently, the Carbohydrate-Active enZYmes Database (CAZy), including glycoside hydrolase (GH) families, has been established with the development of Omics and structural measurement technologies. Molecular engineering based on GH families can obviously decrease the probing space of target sequences and structures, and increase the odds of experimental success. Besides, the study of cellulase active-site architecture paves the way toward the explanation of catalytic mechanism. This review focuses on the main GH families and the latest progresses in molecular engineering of catalytic domain. Based on the combination of analysis of a large amount of data in the same GH family and their conservative active-site architecture information, rational design will be an important direction for molecular engineering and promote the rapid development of the conversion of biomass.

Objective To investigate the protective effects and mechanism of LY2109761 in radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis (RIPF), and to provide a clue for the clinical treatment of RIPF. Methods A total of 40 healthy female C57BL/6 mice were enrolled and were divided into 4 groups with 10 mice in each group randomly, including blank control group, single irradiation group, irradiation +LY50 group and irradiation + LY100 group which were given 50 and 100 mg/kg of LY2109761 respectively, twice per day. The whole lungs were irradiated by 6 MV X-rays of 12 Gy. At 2 weeks post-irradiation, pathological analyses were performed for each group to evaluate the histological changes in the irradiated lungs, including hematoxylin and eosin staining ( HE ) to observe morphologic changes, the Masson staining to estimate the degree of fibrosis and a combination of immunohistochemistry to analyze the expression levels of TGF-β1 and Smad2. Results Compared with control group, the degree of fibrosis of the lung including alveolar structure changes, fibroblast proliferation and alveolar spacing was significantly enhanced at 14 d post-irradiation. Compared with irradiation group, the fibrosis degree in irradiation +LY100 group was significantly reduced(t=4. 668,P<0. 05). The degree of inflammation and fibrosis of the lung in irradiation+LY50 didn′t obviously reduce compared with irradiation group ( P>0. 05 ) . The result of immunohistochemical assay showed that, the level of protein expressions of TGF-β1 and Smad2 was increased significantly after irradiation(t =13. 545, 6. 418, P <0. 05), and obviously decreased in irradiation+LY100 group (t=15. 263, 6. 855, P<0. 05), but just slightly reduced in irradiation+LY50 group (P>0. 05). Conclusions LY2109761 has protective effect in radiation pulmonary fibrosis possibly by down regulating the expressions of TGF-β1/Smad2.
