AIM: To understand the epidemiology and related factors of strabismic amblyopia of students of primary school, and to provide guidances for the prevention and control strategy.
METHODS: A total of 600 cases of primary school students of Leshan City, Jiajiang County were given vision, oblique incidence and ocular and other screening. The prevalence rate of poor eyesight of strabismus, amblyopia prevalence rate of different sexes, ages were compared, and the degree of amblyopia and strabismus of children with different types of amblyopia and whether or not had stereoscopic vision were counted.
RESULTS: The prevalence rate of amblyopia and strabismus prevalence rate were respectively 4. 0% and 2.5%;With the growth of all age, low vision of students was significantly decreased, the difference of comparison of low vision rate of each age had statistical significance (P<0. 05), but different ages, strabismus prevalence of different sexes, amblyopia prevalence were compared, the difference had no significant differences ( P>0. 05 );Ametropic amblyopia was the main type, accounting for 55. 6%, and the degree of amblyopia mainly was light, moderate; ametropic amblyopia, most of ametropic amblyopia and strabismus had stereo vision, but there were no stereopsis of most of the strabismic amblyopia and all esotropia.
CONCLUSION:Ametropic is mainly type of amblyopia, the prevalence of relationship between the incidence of strabismic amblyopia of primary school students and sexes is not obvious, but the oblique amblyopia treatment effect, such as the establishment of stereoscopic vision and the age, eye position has a close relationship, should be early discovered, early treatment.

Objective To determine the correlation between high serum levels of homocysteine (Hcy), low folate and
vitamin B12 levels and the clinical index of neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), providing the reference for the diagnosis and treatment of neonatal patients with HIE. Methods Totally 94 cases of neonatal patients with HIE (32 mild, 40 moderate, and 22 severe) treated by Tianjin children’s hospital from April 2010 to April 2011 were enrolled. The control group was 20 cases of neonatal patients with neonatal swallowing syndrome at the same period. The serum levels of Hcy, folate and vitamin B12 were compared between four groups. Results There were significant differences in serum levels of Hcy, folate and vitamin B12 between four groups (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, there was higher level of Hcy and lower levels of folate and vitamin B12 in HIE groups. The Hcy levels increased with the deterioration of HIE in three HIE groups. The serum level of vitamin B12 was significantly lower in severe group than that in moderate group (P<0.05). Conclusion The serum Hcy level has certain reference value in tassessment of the severity of HIE. The supplementation of folate and vitamin B12 may play an active role in the process of the treatment in neonatal patients with HIE.

The study is aimed to investigate the effect of lamivudine on growth and metabolism of three intestinal characteristic bacteria (namely, Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae). The growth condition of the three bacteria was quantitatively evaluated by microcalorimetry with four characteristic parameters of the thermal power-time curves, including the growth rate constant (k), thermal power (p), time to peak (t) and calorific value (Q). The results showed that the IC50 value of lamivudine on B. adolescentis was 200 microg x mL(-1), and the IC50 values of lamivudine on S. dysenteriae and E. coli were higher than 3 000 microg x mL(-1) and 6 000 microg x mL(1), respectively. Therefore, lamivudine made different inhibitory effects on the three bacteria, in which the B. adolescentis was most susceptible to lamivudine. This work showed that taking lamivudine chronically is likely to affect the balance of good flora in the intestinal tract, and might increase endotoxin release, leading to inflammation and disease progression in hepatopathy.

Objective: To explore the correlation of plasma level N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with non-diabetic acute myocardial infarction (AMI) combining stress hyperglycemia.
Methods: A total of 327 non-diabetic AMI patients treated in our hospital from 2012-02 to 2014-05 were studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to fasting blood glucose level:Stress group, the patients with blood glucose≥7.0 mmol/L, n=182 and Non-stress group, the patients with blood glucose<7.0 mmol/L, n=145. The basic clinical condition, laboratory tests within 24 hours of onsets, echocardiography and 24 h dynamic electrocardiogram were examined;the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) including arrhythmia, heart failure, cardiac shock and sudden cardiac death in 2 weeks of onsets were analyzed and compared between 2 groups.
Results: The patients’ age, gender, history of hypertension, smoking, drinking, and blood levels of TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C were similar between 2 groups, P>0.05. Plasma levels of NT-proBNP, CK-MB, MYO, ultra-TnI, ALT, AST and blood glucose level were signiifcantly different between 2 groups P<0.01. NT-proBNP level was positively related to
ultra-TnI (r2=0.811, r=0.901, P<0.01). Stress group presented obviously higher incidence of MACE (P<0.05), lower LVEF (P<0.01), and signiifcantly increased left ventricular end diastolic diameter, left ventricular end systolic diameter (P<0.01) than those in Non-stress group.
Conclusion: Plasma levels of NT-proBNP may judge the severity and evaluate recent prognosis in patients with non-diabetic AMI combining stress hyperglycemia, it could be used as a risk indicator for relevant patients in clinical practice.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2006;4(4):413-7
Objective: To observe the effects of glycyrrhizin on laminin (LN) expression in kidney tissue and excretory quantity of urine protein of rats with adriamycin nephropathy, and to explore the protective effects of glycyrrhizin on glomerulosclerosis. METHODS: Eighteen SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal control group (n=6), untreated group (n=6) and glycyrrhizin-treated group (n=6). Adriamycin nephropathy was induced in rats in the last two groups by intravenous injection of adriamycin. The rats in the glycyrrhizin-treated group were fed glycyrrhizin for eight weeks, whereas the rats in the normal control group and untreated group were fed normal saline solution for eight weeks too. The levels of 24 h urine protein (Upr), serum creatinine (sCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum cholesterol (Ch) of rats in each group were examined before treatment and after the treatment for four and eight weeks. The renal morphological changes were observed under a microscope. The expression level of LN in renal tissue was detected by streptavidin-biotin peroxidase complex (SABC) method. RESULTS: The levels of 24 h Upr after the treatment for four and eight weeks in the glycyrrhizin-treated group were both significantly decreased as compared with those in the untreated group. The pathological morphological changes of renal tissue in the glycyrrhizin-treated group were remarkably alleviated, and the expression level of LN in renal tissue was also decreased in the glycyrrhizin-treated group as compared with those in the untreated group. CONCLUSION: The glycyrrhizin exerts certain protective effects on adriamycin nephropathy in rats by reducing excretory quantity of urine protein, decreasing expression level of LN in renal tissue, improving renal function and lessening the severity degree of glomerulosclerosis so as to retard the development of glomerulosclerosis.
