Objective:To correlate N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and heart type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) levels with the prognosis of patients with heart failure.Methods:Forty-nine patients with severe heart failure who received treatment in Tongde Hospital from December 2017 to June 2019 were included in the observation group. Forty-nine healthy subjects who concurrently received health examination were included in the control group. The heart function of the 49 patients was graded by the New York Heat Association (NYHA) classification. The levels of NT-proBNP and H-FABP were measured in different NYHA grades of patients and the healthy controls. The value of NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels in the diagnosis of heart failure was investigated and NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels were correlated with prognosis of heart failure. Results:In the observation group, NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels were (341.52 ± 12.74) pg/mL and (69.01 ± 11.45) ng/mL, respectively, which were significantly higher than (189.60 ± 12.73) pg/mL and (37.25 ± 11.44) ng/mL, respectively, in the control group ( t = 59.047 and 13.735, both P < 0.001). In patients with NYHA III grade severe heart failure, NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels were (295.62 ± 42.38) pg/mL and (75.09 ± 19.15) ng/mL, respectively, which were significantly higher than (120.43 ± 21.69) pg/mL and (21.76 ± 5.22) ng/mL, respectively in patients with NYHA I grade severe heart failure, (203.51 ± 42.77) pg/mL and (44.92 ± 10.85) ng/mL in patients with NYHA Ⅱ grade severe heart failure ( F = 55.100, 46.040, both P < 0.001). NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels in patients with NYHA I grade severe heart failure were significantly lower than those in patients with NYHA Ⅱ grade severe heart failure ( t = 7.231, 8.130, both P < 0.001). The sensitivity and accuracy of detecting NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels alone in the diagnosis of heart failure (76.92%, 78.85%, 84.69%, 86.73%) were significantly lower than those of detecting NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels in combination (98.08%, 97.96%, χ2 = 75.760, 10.913, both P < 0.001). NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels were positively correlated with the prognosis of heart failure ( r = 0.362, 0.611, both P < 0.05). Conclusion:NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels are positively correlated with the prognosis of severe heart failure in older adult patients. Detecting NT-proBNP and H-FABP levels in combination can increase the sensitivity and accuracy in the diagnosis of severe heart failure.

Objective To study the property of the K+ channels in mouse bone marrow stromal cells. Method Single-channel recording of the K+ channel currents in primary cultured mouse bone marrow stromal cell (BMSC) was performed using patch-clamp technique. Result A K+ channel with conductance of 16.7±1.4 pS was identified and characterized. The channel currents showed no inactivation in 75 s. Within a certain voltage range, the open time constant (to2) and open probability increased with depolarization, while the closed time constant (tc2) decreased. Conclusion The voltage-dependent K+ channel resembling the delayed rectifier K+ channel in excitable cells may play a role in the signal transduction of BMSC.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the risk factors and preventative measures for neonatal pneumothorax.
METHODSRetrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 2286 neonates who were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit between October 2010 and November 2011, and a case-control study was conducted to analyze the risk factors and preventative measures for neonatal pneumothorax.
RESULTSThe incidence of pneumothorax among the neonates was 1.57% (36/2286), and it was significantly higher in full-term infants than in preterm infants (23/1033 vs 13/1253, P=0.023). Logistic regression analysis indicated that cesarean section, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS), wet lung, pneumonia and mechanical ventilation were the independent risk factors for neonatal pneumothorax (odds ratios=7.951, 6.090, 7.898, 6.272 and 4.389; P<0.05 for all). The higher the peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) during mechanical ventilation, the higher the incidence of neonatal pneumothorax (P<0.001). Pulmonary surfactant reduced the incidence of pneumothorax among neonates with NRDS (2.9% vs 10.1%; P=0.006).
CONCLUSIONSNeonatal pneumothorax occurs mostly in full-term infants. Cesarean section, NRDS, wet lung, pneumonia and mechanical ventilation are closely associated with neonatal pneumothorax. Strict management of indications for cesarean section, keeping PIP at a low level during mechanical ventilation, and use of pulmonary surfactant are helpful in preventing neonatal pneumothorax.

Structural modifications were performed with natural product of oleanolic acid to search for novel anticancer drugs. Ten oleanolic acid derivatives were designed and obtained by the reaction of oxidation, acylation or hydrolyzation, etc. The cytotoxic activity of derivatives was evaluated against HeLa, HepG2 and BGC-823 cells in vitro by MTT assay, gefitinib and etoposide used as a positive control. The results showed that compound 5a was particularly active to inhibit HepG2 cells growth, and anti-tumor activity of compound 7 on HeLa cells was significantly stronger than oleanolic acid. They are worthy to be studied further.

AIM: To investigate the biocolonization of poly 2-hydroxyethy methacrylate (PHEMA) sponge with cornea tissue and evaluate the therapeutic effects of modified porous poly 2-hydroxyethy methacrylate-Polymethyl met-hacrylate (PHEMA-PMMA) Keratoprostheses (KPro) on rabbit and monkey corneas. METHODS:The KPro were made using two-stage polymerization combined with mechanical cutting. The experiment was divided into two groups. In the control group, ten normal rabbit eyes received lamellar implanta-tion of PHEMA sponges. The sponges were obtained 2 weeks, 1,2,3 and 4 months after operation. The cell proliferation and neovascularization inside the sponges were observed using light and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and immunohistochemistry. In the experimental group, the porous PHEMA-PMMA KPros were inserted into the lamellar pockets of eight rabbit corneas and two monkey corneas (stage I operation). The healing process was investigated by slit-lamp microscopy. The anterior lamellar cornea tissues were removed 3 months after surgery, exposing the under-neath transparent core (stage II operation). The operated eyes were then followed up for 3-6 months.light microscope, fibroblasts started to grow into the cornea 2 weeks after operation; lots of cells, accompanied with new blood vessels, invaded into the cornea 2-3 months after surgery. Invading cells of sponge, as well as keratocytes, were positive for vimentin. Under the electron microscope, the invading cells looked healthy and were surrounded by extracellular matrix and collagen. In 8 rabbit eyes which received KPro implantation, anterior lamellar cornea melting happened in two eyes after the stage II operation. The remaining 6 corneas retained their central cores during observation after the stage II operation. Two monkey operated eyes were found no complication thoughout the whole follow-up.cornea. The modified PHEMA-PMMA KPros have obtained a relatively stable results after implantation into animal corneas.
