Objective: To explore the correlation of plasma level N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with non-diabetic acute myocardial infarction (AMI) combining stress hyperglycemia.
Methods: A total of 327 non-diabetic AMI patients treated in our hospital from 2012-02 to 2014-05 were studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to fasting blood glucose level:Stress group, the patients with blood glucose≥7.0 mmol/L, n=182 and Non-stress group, the patients with blood glucose<7.0 mmol/L, n=145. The basic clinical condition, laboratory tests within 24 hours of onsets, echocardiography and 24 h dynamic electrocardiogram were examined;the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) including arrhythmia, heart failure, cardiac shock and sudden cardiac death in 2 weeks of onsets were analyzed and compared between 2 groups.
Results: The patients’ age, gender, history of hypertension, smoking, drinking, and blood levels of TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C were similar between 2 groups, P>0.05. Plasma levels of NT-proBNP, CK-MB, MYO, ultra-TnI, ALT, AST and blood glucose level were signiifcantly different between 2 groups P<0.01. NT-proBNP level was positively related to
ultra-TnI (r2=0.811, r=0.901, P<0.01). Stress group presented obviously higher incidence of MACE (P<0.05), lower LVEF (P<0.01), and signiifcantly increased left ventricular end diastolic diameter, left ventricular end systolic diameter (P<0.01) than those in Non-stress group.
Conclusion: Plasma levels of NT-proBNP may judge the severity and evaluate recent prognosis in patients with non-diabetic AMI combining stress hyperglycemia, it could be used as a risk indicator for relevant patients in clinical practice.

OBJECTIVESTo evaluate the diagnostic value of arterial spin labeling (ASL) technology in newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).
METHODSeven full-term newborn infants without any history of asphyxia and other nervous system diseases were selected as the control and 33 full-term newborn infants were assigned into HIE group. The patients in HIE group were further divided into three subgroups (19 cases of mild, 6 cases of moderate and 8 cases of severe HIE) based on their clinical diagnosis. The control group and HIE group were examined with GE Signa EXCITE HD 3.0T superconducting MRI scanner with a head phase array coil. Both groups were scanned with conventional axial MRI (T1FLAIR, T2WI and T2FLAIR), 1HMRS (PRESS sequence) and ASL (FAIR). Original images of 1HMRS and ASL were processed by Functool software of ADW 4.3 workstation. ASL perfusion images were observed and the signal intensity values of the region of interest (bilateral gray, white matter and basal ganglia) of the two groups were quantitatively measured, and mean value were calculated and compared between groups. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 13.0 software, and statistically significant difference was set at P < 0.05.
RESULTThe perfusion images of two groups were obtained perfectly. The signal intensity values of bilateral gray, white matter and basal ganglia of control group were 125.34 ± 11.76, 73.42 ± 11.67 and 173.65 ± 15.49, respectively and there was a statistically significant difference between the different areas. The signal intensity values of bilateral gray, white matter and basal ganglia of HIE group were 153.47 ± 11.72, 71.35 ± 10.37 and 217.13 ± 12.51, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05) in the average signal intensity value of gray matter and basal ganglia, but there were no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05) in white matter between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONASL Perfusion technique can assess HIE comprehensively and accurately. Furthermore, it can evaluate the brain damage of hypoxic ischemia. The results provide a strong basis for clinical treatment.

BACKGROUND: Stem cells are the potentially immortal cells capable of self-renewal, which are essential to the mystery of human development and aging, and are also the core of research for regenerative medicine. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the biological characteristics of embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells, to review the clinical and commercial applications in stem cell therapy and drug screening, and to analyze the problems and prospects in stem cell industry. METHODS: We searched relevant articles about stem cell models in PubMed and CNKI databases during 1995 to 2017 on internet, and took"stem cells, embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, stem cell therapy, drug screening" as the keywords in English and Chinese, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: According to the origin, stem cell models are divided into three types: embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Different types of stem cells have their unique biological advantages. Embryonic stem cells can generate all somatic cell types, but the application is limited by ethical disputes. As for adult stem cells, there are the most extensive and in-depth, studies as the well as the most prevalent and mature applications. Induced pluripotent stem cells have similar characteristics as embryonic stem cells, and furthermore their use avoids source restriction, moral and ethical controversies, bringing new opportunities for stem cell application. Stem cell-based cell therapy has shown successful achievement. There have been a few commercial products about adult stem cells-based cell therapy; in the meanwhile both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells are making their way into clinical trials. In addition, pluripotent stem cells hold great promise for the specific drug screening because they enable scientists to establish a variety of cell and disease models in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the stimulating effect of sera from severe multiple trauma patients within 24 h post trauma on nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) activity in macrophage and their relationship with patients prognosis.
METHODSPeripheral blood of 47 patients with multiple traumas with injury severity score (ISS) > or = 16 and 24 healthy volunteers were obtained, and sera samples were isolated. And 24 h after transfection of the recombinant NF-kappaB plasmid containing luciferase reporter gene into the mouse macrophage line (RAW 264.7), the cells were stimulated by sera from different patients for 6 h, then stimulating effect of sera on NF-kappaB was assessed by luciferase activity. The concentrations of interleukin-1 beta, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-10, interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor I were detected with ELISA kits.
RESULTSThe stimulating activity of sera from trauma patients on NF-kappaB was increased significantly, and it was higher in MODS group, non-survivor group than that in non-MODS, survivor group respectively. The level of activity was correlated positively with APACHE II score, while it did not have relationship to the cytokine or endogenous antagonist levels. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) of NF-kappaB activity for predicting MODS and mortality was significantly higher than that of APACHE II score.
CONCLUSIONEarly measurement of NF-kappaB stimulating activity of sera from severe multiple trauma patients may have the value to predict occurrence of MODS and mortality.
