Objective To investigate the patterns of frequency domain indexes of surface electronic signals of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients' paraspinal muscles by using surface electromyographic (sEMG) techniques .Methods 25 AIS patients enrolled, 7 males, 18 females, ages range from 11 to 21 years old. All of the enrolled patients undertook the Biering Sorensen test(BST) and the object-lifting test, a Finland made type ME3000P sEMG instrument was applied to record the electronic activities of paraspinal muscles(convex /concave) of all subjects, and the frequency domain indexes: median frequency(MF),mean power frequency(MPF), zero crossing rate(ZCR)were analyzed. Results The wave amplitudes and scales of paraspinal muscles electronic frequency domain indexes(MF, MPF, ZCR) were lower than the other tested positions when recorded at the zone of apex vertebrae, and MFslope, MPFslope and ZCRslope all showed a linear degressive tendency as the exercise time was extended. Conclusion Paraspinal muscles at the zone of apex vertebrae have low fatigue durabilities and more likely to be exhausted. sEMG ought to be one of the objective examinations used to evaluate the differences of electronic activities of paraspinal muscles(convex /concave) of AIS patients, and may have a promising value in clinical practice.

This article was aimed to study effect of D-ribose on the high-energy phosphate metabolism of skeletal muscle tissues of tired mice. The model was made by burden swimming. And then, the mice were divided into four groups, which were the model group, D-ribose group, caffeine group, and D-ribose with caffeine group). Intragastric administrations of drugs were given to all mice in four groups, three times per day. And all mice continued to swim for three days. The time of swimming was recorded. Gastrocnemius of mice were removed after swimming or 3 days later to measure the concentration of ATP, ADP, AMP and IMP with the HPLC. The results showed that compared with the control group, the time of burden s wimming was significantly prolonged for mice in the D-ribose group and the D-ribose with caffeine group. After three-day recovery, the concentration of ATP, AMP and IMP of gastrocnemius in the D-ribose group and the D-ribose with caffeine group mice was significantly increased. There was no significant difference in the caffeine group mice. It was concluded that D-ribose is involved in the high-energy phosphate metabolism of skeletal muscle tissues of tired mice . D-ribose promotes the recovery of ATP concentration in the gastrocnemius of tired mice, and prolongs the time of burden swimming. Therefore, it has a certain anti-fatigue effect .

Objective To determine the relationship between polymorphism of apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) and electroencephlogram in patients with mild/moderate traumatic brain injury. Methods (1) Venous blood for 2 ml was collected from 81 patients with mild/moderate traumatic brain injury on admission. APOE genotype was identified by PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism ( PCRRFLP). (2) All the patients were monitored by electroencephalogram for 2-3 times within a week after injury. X2 test and logistic regression analysis via SAS version 8.2 were performed to analyze the results of genotype and electroencephalogram and clinical data. Results The distributions of genetypes and alleles among 81 patients matched with Haldy-Weinberg Law. The findings of electroencephalogram were significantly different between patients with and without APOEε4 (P<0.05). Ten (63%) out of 16 patients with APOEε4 showed an aggravated electroencephalogram, while only 16 (25%) out of 65 patients without APOEε4 showed the same results of electroencephalogram. Logistic regression analyses showed that APOEε4 was a risk factor for electroencephalogram aggravation after traumatic brain injury. Conclusion APOEε4 is a risk factor for electroencephalogram aggravation during acute stage after mild/moderate traumatic brain injury.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the semen quality and its influencing factors in preconception males in Nanjing area so as to provide some evidence for working out effective intervention measures.
METHODSTotally 687 men receiving preconceptional physical examination were enrolled in this study. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the subjects along with an analysis of their semen quality.
RESULTSThe median of sperm concentration was 63.3 x 10(6)/ml (95% CI [19.88-119] x 10(6)/ml). The median of grade a sperm was 33.03% (95% CI [19.38-55.05]%), that of grade a + b sperm was 52.08% (95% CI [39.53-69.37]%), and that of teratosperm was 91.75% (95% CI [69-100]%). The median concentration of seminal plasma PMN-elastase was 195.55 ng/ml (95% CI [76.16-3330.38] ng/ml) and that of seminal plasma zinc was 7.62 μmol/L (95% CI [1.5-23, 45] μmol/L). The positive rates of Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), and Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) were 42.4%, 0.3%, and 2.4%, respectively. The median of sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) of those whose wives had a history of adverse pregnancy was 20.25% (95% CI [2.15-68.25]%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that mental stress (OR 1.567, 95% CI [1.081-2.27]) and sedentariness (OR 1.772, 95% CI [1.211-2.592]) were independent risk factors for asthenospermia.
CONCLUSIONThe sperm quality of preconception males in Nanjing area is not encouraging, and it can be improved by changing undesirable lifestyle and reducing mental stress.
