1.Effects of Niaodukang on Lipid Metabolism in the Rat Modelwith Chronic Renal Failure
Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 1999;0(02):-
Niaodukang is an effective formula used in the second affiliated hospithal of Guangzhou Universityof TCM for chronic renal failure, which is composed of Rhizoma Rhei,Radix Polygoni Multiflori,Radix Astragali seu Hedysari and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi with the actions of supplementing qi, warmingYang, strengthening spleen, tonifying kidney, promoting blood circulation and removing turbid pathogenicfactor. To explore the effect of Niaodukang on the lipid metabolism of chronic renal faiure, rat model wasset up with improved technique of 5/6 kidney mass removal. After the accomplishment of the rat model for2 weeks, the models matched with the geneal conditions and 24 hours' proteinuria were randomly allocated to five groups: the model group, two Niaodukang groups with high and low dosages respectively, CoatedAldehyde Oxystarch group and the nounal control group. Serum contents of triglyceride, cholesterol andapoprotein were tested. The results showed that the blood lipid level in the model group was higher than thenormal group, and decreased markedly after the treatment of Niaodukang. It is indicated that Niaodukang exerts a good effect on the blood-lipid metabolism in rat model with chronic renal failure.

Objective To study the relationship between the diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) and the cerebrovascular disease. Methods The heart rate variability (HRV) was measured in 77cases of type 2 diabetes 〔49 men, 28 women, age (63.1?11.4)years〕. Forty-one cases suffered from DAN (group A), 36 cases without DAN (group B) according to the results of HRV. All the cases received the examination with transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD). Results Compared with group B, the abnormality detected with TCD was higher in group A, cerebrovascular compliance was commonly decreased and cerebrovascular stenosis was also extensively observed. Conclusion DAN seems to be one of the risk fcators in inducing cerebrovascular disease.

Objective: To observe the protective effects of Yougui drink(右归饮) on chronic renal failure rats with insufficiency of kidney-Yang(肾阳虚) and investigate its mechanisms. Methods: Chronic(renal) failure model with insufficiency of kidney-Yang was replicated by nephrectomy(5/6 renal cortex) and(propylthiouracil)(PTU) infused into the stomach. The model rats were randomly divided into three(groups:)(model) group,Yougui drink group and sham-operated group.Yougui drink group was given Yougui drink(infused) into stomach daily, while the other two groups were given equivalent water daily for 28 days. The(pathological) study of the kidney tissue was performed and the serum blood urea nitrogen(BUN),creatinine(Cr) and lipid levels were determined after the experiment. Results: Yougui drink significantly decreased serum BUN and Cr levels and increased the reduced triglycerides(TG) in the rats compared to model group(BUN:(13.65?1.37)mmol/L vs.(15.88?1.16) mmol/L,P

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of the T2WI gray scale ratio for Hashimoto's thyroiditis(HT).Methods The T2WI-iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least square estimation(IDEAL)quantitation sequence water images of 22 HT cases were analyzed retrospectively. The gray scale ratio of the thyroid, sternocleidomastoid muscle, trachea cavity, and subcutaneous fat at the same layer were measured on the picture archiving and communication systems(PACS).The gray scale ratios of thyroid/sternocleidomastoid muscle(T/M),thyroid/trachea cavity(T/Tr),and thyroid/lipid(T/L)were calculated. The intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC)was used to evaluate the consistency among the measurements, and the optimal threshold for distinguishing HT from non-HT was determined via the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve. The Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between T/M,T/Tr,T/L ratios, and titers of thyroid peroxidase antibody(TPO-Ab)and thyroglobulin antibody(Tg-Ab),respectively.Results On the T2WI-IDEAL quantitation sequence water images, the(x)±s of T/M,T/Tr,T/L ratios for HT and non-HT were 2.17±0.47 and 1.62±0.21(t=14.90,P<0.001),9.40±3.24 and 4.87±2.93(t=11.42,P<0.001),1.66±0.32 and 1.21±0.31(t=7.51,P<0.001),respectively.The area under the curve(AUC)of T/M,T/Tr,and T/L ratios for diagnosing HT were 0.89,0.86,and 0.85,respectively;the optimal thresholds were 1.90,3.50,and 1.36,and the sensitivity and specificity were 72.7%and 100%,100%and 40.5%,95.5%and 29.7%,respectively.The T/M ratio had a moderate correlation with TPO-Ab(r=0.513,P<0.05),and T/Tr,T/L ratios had a mild correlation with TPO-Ab,respectively.Conclusion The T/M ratio in the T2WI gray scale ratio can quantitatively and objectively distinguish HT from non-HT to some extent and is correlated with TPO-Ab.It has extremely high specificity and holds promise as a non-invasive imaging method for the diagnosis of incidental HT.
