1.Sonographic features of carotid body tumor
Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(01):-
OBJECTIVE To describe the sonographic features of carotid body tumor(CBT), and determine the utility of ultrasonography as a diagnostic study in the preoperative patients. METHODS Sonograms of 60 patients with 65 CBT were reviewed with gray scale and duplex Doppler sonography. The evaluated features included the location, size, margins, shape, internal echogenicity, the relationship between the tumor and the carotid artery, and blood flow velocity. RESULTS All carotid body tumors were located at the carotid artery bifurcation. Well-defined, solid, weakly hypoechoic masses were noted on gray scale sonography in the carotid bifurcation. Color Doppler sonography showed hypervascularity in 61 masses. Pulsed Doppler analysis of blood flow within the tumor mass was possible in 61 CBT, and low-resistance waveforms were obtained from multiple sites within the mass in all cases. CONCLUSION The ultrasound characteristics of the CBT possess specificity to some extent. Duplex Doppler ultrasound can provide the relationship between the tumor and the carotid artery, and provide important information of intratumor blood flow, which has important value in the diagnosis of CBT.

Chinese Journal of Medical Ultrasound (Electronic Edition) 2013;(8):656-661
Objective To observe the ultrasonographic features of local chest wall tumor recurrence after mastectomy for breast cancer and its clinical and histopathological characteristics. Methods The ultrasonographic features, clinical and histopathological characteristics of 27 patients with local chest wall tumor recurrence after mastectomy confirmed histopathologically were retrospectively reviewed. Results The disease-free intervals of twenty-seven patients ranged from 3 to 129 months [mean (31.9±31.4) months]. Most of the recurrence(18/27, 66.7%) occurred within 3 years after mastectomy. The clinical manifestations were:7 cases (7/27, 25.9%) with regional skin redness and swelling, red rash or ulceration on chest wall associated with or without palpable mass, 20 cases(20/27, 74.1%) with chest wall palpable masses without obvious skin change. On ultrasonography, 2 cases showed diffuse inifltrative type with ill-deifned inhomogeneous hypoechoic lesion and skin thickening. And twenty-ifve cases(43 lesions) showed mass type with a lesion size range of 5.4-114.7 mm [mean (24.4±21.6) mm]. Among them, 32 lesions were located near to the operation incision scar, 36 involved muscle layer, 38 were hypoechoic, 31 had irregular shape, 24 had indistinct margin, and 31 had blood lfow signal. In addition, calciifcation, halo, and taller-than-wide shape were absent in all 43 lesions. Conclusions The tumor recurrence often occurred within 3 years after mastectomy in high-risk patients. Ultrasonographic feature of chest wall recurrent lesion is of great value in the diagnosis.

Objective To analyze the clinical features, therapy and outcome of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) combined with lupus myelopathy (LM).Methods Ten SLE patients combined with LM treated in Department of Rheumatology and Immunology,People' s Hospital from 1990 to 2011 were retrospectively analyzed and 43 cases of SLE combined with LM reported home and abroad were reviewed. Results All the ten patients were women with age of 23-53 (36.9 ± 3.4) years old and duration of 1-18 years.MRI of spinal cord revealed long T2 signal in one case, and normal in two cases.Seven patients received methylprednisolone pulse plus cyclophosphamide (CTX),two were given glucocorticoid pulse only, and one was given moderate dosage of glucocorticoid,CTX and plasma exchange (PE).The results revealed that four patients received complete recovery, four received partial recovery, and two received no improvement. Conclusions LM is a rare but severe complication of SLE with poor prognosis, which usually occurs in early phase of young SLE patients.Pulse methylprednisolone and CTX may be effective.Early and active treatment may improve the outcome.

AIM:To investigate the role of danshensu on Smad signal transduction in rat hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)stimulated with transforming growth factor(TGF-?1).METHODS:The rat HSCs was isolated with collagenase by in situ-liver recirculation perfusion and cultured in vitro.MTT colorimetric assay was used to detect proliferation of HSCs treated with different concentration of danshensu. The expressions of ?-SMA and T?R I and II were observed by immunocytochemitry, indirect immunofluorescent staining and Western blotting when HSCs stimulated with TGF-?1 and with different concentrations of danshensu for 24 h.RESULTS:(1)Danshensu at the concentration from 0.0625 mmol/L to 1 mmol/L prevented the proliferation of HSCs in a dose-dependent manner(P

Objective To investigate the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) inhibition on the down-regulation of adiponectin (ADPN) in mouse 3T3-L1 adipocytes by advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).Methods AGEs were prepared for incubating with cell.3T3-L1 preadipocytes were cultured in vitro and differentiated into mature adipocytes.Cell differentiation and lipid accumulation were determined by oil red O staining. After being intervened with AGEs,2',7'-dichlorofluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) was used as a reactive oxygen species (ROS) capture agent and the fluorescent intensity of 2',7 '-dichlorofluorescein (DCF) was detected by flow cytometry.Adiponectin expression under AGEs in 3T3-L1 adipocytes pretreated with N-acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC) or not was detected by real-time fluorescent PCR and ELISA.Results The level of ROS in 3T3-L1 adipocytes treated with AGEs was increased.mRNA and protein of ADPN were down-regulated.After inhibition with ROS,mRNA and protein expressions of ADPN injured by AGEs were ameliorated. Conclusion Exposure of 3T3-L1 adipocytes to AGEs induces oxidative stress in vitro, which decreases the expression of ADPN,and causes functional impairment of adipose cells and insulin resistance.

Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2009;25(12):2261-2263
Objective To observe the ultrasonographic features of intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL). Methods Ultrasonographic features, pathological results and the clinical manifestations of 7 patients with IVLs were analyzed retrospectively, and the causes of misdiagnosis were discussed as well. Results The median age of 7 IVL patients was 40 years old. Five patients underwent previously hysterectomy due to probable diagnosis of leiomyoma with the mean recurrent time of 13.8 months. Three lesions extended into the right atrium, 3 involved the inferior venous cava and 1 was confined in the pelvis venous. Ultrasonographic findings of IVL included uterine solid lesions with intravascular disease, solid occupied lesions in the pelvis with intravascular disease after hysterectomy, solid occupied lesions in the pelvis, large abdominal vessels and cardiac chambes with intravascular disease after hysterectomy. The main misdiagnosis cause was that IVL had similar ultrasonographic features with hysteromyoma, and intravascular lesions of IVL was hard to detect in the early stage. Conclusion Color Doppler ultrasonography is a valuable imaging mortality for detection and follow-up of IVL.
