OBJECTIVETo analyze the clinical characteristics of elderly patients with spinal tuberculosis and explore its clinical effects with anti-TB drugs alone.
METHODSFrom January 2008 to July 2010, the data of 36 patients with spinal tuberculosis underwent conservative treatment of anti-TB drugs alone were analyzed. There were 19 males and 17 females with an average age of 73.5 years (ranged, 60 to 85). All patients were in the active phase with high ESR and CRP levels and were treated with 3HRZE/6-9HRE (course from 9 to 12 months). According to clinical symptoms, chemical examination, radiological image to adjust drug and depending on VAS score to evaluate pain.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up from 8 to 24 months with an average of 15 months. Tuberculose of 31 patients healed after chemotherapy from 9 to 12 months and ESR and CRP recovered normally. Levofloxacin and para-amino salicylic acid were used in 4 cases because of 4 cases occurred drug fast for RFP or INH, after 15 months, their obtained healing. Symptom of 1 case got worse during chemotherapy, and surgical treatment were performed, after 3 months, ESR and CRP recovered normally, X-ray and CT showed spinal osteosclerosis and fusion without significant kyphosis and internal fixation loosening. Cobb angle was respectively(17.6+/-2.3) degrees, (18.1+/-2.7) degrees before treatment and last follow-up (P>0.05). MRI showed abscess was absorbed and spinal inflammation subsidised. VAS score was respectively 6.5+/-1.7, 1.4+/-0.5 before treatment and last follow-up (P<0.05). Seven patients had complications relating with drug adverse reaction, after discontinuation and treated with clinical symptom, the patients recovered normally.
CONCLUSIONAnti-TB drugs alone can obtain satisfactory effects in treating early senile spinal tuberculosis, but strict supervision and individual administration should not be disregardful.

From January 2005 to January 2008, 23 cases of fractures and dislocations of cervical spine treated with anterior decompression, reconstruction of bone graft with titanium mesh, and titanium locking plates fixation in Department of Orthopaedics, the 309 Hospital of Chinese PLA were retrospectively analyzed, including 16 males and 7 females, aged 41.9 years (ranging 25 ?65 years). The clinical effect and application value of this treatment was evaluated; the conditions at preoperative, immediate postoperative and follow-up were evaluated by JOA grade, and these radiographs were taken. Lordosis (kyphosis) of the fusion segment with Cobb's angle, and lordosis (kyphosis) of cervical spine with D value were measured to evaluate effect of reconstruction and cervical spine physiological curve. All cases were followed-up for 20.5 months (ranging 1-3 years). Clinical stability was reached in all cases during the follow-up. There were significant differences between preoperative and immediate postoperative, between preoperative and follow-up groups in terms of JOA grade, Cobb's angle and D value (P < 0.05). The JOA grade of immediate postoperative was improved compared with that during follow-up (P < 0.05). The mean improvement rate was 63% at 1 year of follow up. A good curative effect was obtained by using anterior locking plate with titanium mesh systems in treatment of cervical fractures and dislocations and a good effect of restoring and maintaining the lordosis of cervical spine can be also obtained.

Objective To assess the effect of radioiodine-131 (131Ⅰ) on treatment of pulmonary metastases from differentiated thyroid carcinoma and the main prognostic factors. Methods Five databases were retrieved and all published studies which analyzed the effect of 131Ⅰ on pulmonary metastases from differentiated thyroid carcinoma and the main prognostic factors were systematically reviewed. The data about the impact of 131Ⅰ treatment and the main prognostic factors on the 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of the patients were abstracted. RevMan 4.2 software was used to statistically analyze. Results Eleven retrospective cohort studies were included. The pooled results suggested that the 5-yr survival rates of the patients who received 131Ⅰ therapy and who did not received 131Ⅰl therapy were 74.9% and 27.1% , respectively ;The lO-yr survival rates(P<0.01)of the two groups were 60.8% % 12.2% , respectively; The difference between them had statistical significance (P<0.01). The 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of the patients only with pulmonary metastases were higher than those of the patients with multiple metastases (P<0.01). The 5-yr (P = 0.01) and 10-yr (P = 0. 002)surviv10al rates of the patients only with papillary thyroid carcinoma were higher than those of the patients with follicular thyroid carcinoma. The 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of male and female patients were similar(P>0.05). Conclusions 131Ⅰ treatment increases the 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of patients with pulmonary metastases from differentiated thyroid carcinoma. The extent of metastases and the histologie type of differentiated thyroid carcinoma are two main predicting factors of prognosis. The 5-yr and 10-yr survival rates of patients are not influenced by gender.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2005;30(6):414-418
Perimenopause syndrome, referred also to climacteric syndrome, results from the changing of relationship among hypothalamus, pituitary and ovary during women's aging process. Those changes take place first in overy, then in hypothalmus and pituitary, which are reflected as the functional changes in endocrinological and central nervous system, accompanied with a series of psychological symptoms. 90% of women with perimenopause syndrome show clinical symptoms. The clinical prevention and treatment of female climacteric syndrome by traditional Chinese medicine: traditional Chinese medicine attributes the various symptoms of female climacteric syndrome to a variety of syndromes of Chinese medicine, e. g. gradual consumption of kidney-Qi, emptiness of the Ren and Chong channels, gradual exhaustion of Tienqui, breakdown of Yin-Yang equilibrium in the body, disorders of Zang-Fu, Qi and blood. The treatment based on syndrome differentiation, modification of prescription according to the symptoms, special prescription and simple recipe and acupuncture were employed in treating Yin-deficiency of the kidney, Yang-deficiency of the kidney, Yin and Yang-deficiency of the kidney, breakdown of the normal physiological coordination between the heart and the kidney, deficiency of liver-Yin and kidney-Yin, insufficiency of both the spleen and the kidney, deficiency of Qi and blood in the heart and spleen, stagnation of the liver-Qi and deficiency of the spleen, stagnation of the liver-Qi, phlegm stagnancy and the upward invasion of heat-phlegm. The traditional Chinese medicinal had a satisfactory global regulating effect on the nervous system and immune- regulating network with multifunction and unique advantage, e.g. its regulating effect on FSH, LH, E2, 5-HT, 5-HIAA, free radical and adtonomic nervous system. Experimental studies have also been conducted, e. g. There were also systematic studies of the simple Chinese drugs' pharmacodynamics and drugs forms of prepared drugs. In the health care of female climacteric syndrome the traditional Chinese medicine has also its own features and advantages.

10.Experimental studies on menopausal syndrome treated by traditional Chinese medicine.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2005;25(6):570-573
In this paper, literature about experimental researches on female climacteric syndrome (FCS) treated by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) published in recent years were reviewed. This paper reviewed not only experimental researches about the effects of nervous system-endocrine and immune regulating net work, the vegetative nervous function and free radical treated by TCM; but also concerned the experimental approaches of animal selected, model established; and objective indexes of FCS. Taking advantages of FCS by integrative medicine is available for enhancing the clinical efficacy.
