BACKGROUND: More recently, repair of skull defect with computer-designed prosthesis contributes to the revolutionary development of skull reconstruction technique. OBJECTIVE: To individually molded titanium mesh by computer-aided design (CAD) technique, and to observe the clinical application value of the titanium mesh in the repair of large-area skull defects in the fronto- temporo-parietal lobes. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: A retrospective case analysis was performed at the Department of Neurosurgery,Liuzhou People's Hospital between January 2006 and August 2007.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 16 patients comprising 12 males and 4 females, aged 16-52 years, suffered from skull defects in the fronto-temporo-parietai lobes following standard large trauma craniotomy and were recruited into this stud Two of these patients were complicated by hydrocephalus and received ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Skull defect area ranged between 9. 2 cm ×11.2 cm and 12.2 cm×14.6 cm. Skull defect neoplasty was performed in all patients 3-8months following standard large trauma craniotomy. METHODS: Titanium mesh patches were individually modeled by CAD,computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and rapid shaping techniques and implanted into skull defect region. In addition, defect edge was fastened with titanium nails. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Moulding effects and complications following skull defect neoplasty. RESULTS: A small amount of subcutaneous effusion was found in one patient and disappeared after liquid extraction and pressure dressing. Titanium mesh was firmly fixed with no loosening. Patients exhibited left-right symmetry, appropriate lateral curvature,no irregular umbilication or chewing dysfunction. All patients were followed for 3-18 months postoperatively and were satisfied with good resuRs,Le.,no complications, infection, material exposure, loosening,or collapse. CONCLUSION: CAD technique used for repair of skull defects is convenient, effective, and safe. This method can. reduce postoperative complications and improve repair effects.

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical experience of esophageal replacement with colon (ERC). Methods: Among 51 patients, 6 with benign stricture and 45 with esophageal carcinoma, all of them were performed cervical esophagocologastrostomy. Among 51 patients, 48 patients received ERC by the transverse colon, including isoperistaltic anastomosis (27/48) and antiperistaltic anastomosis (21/48); three patients received ERC along the peristaltic direction by the right-side colon. In these patients, 24 cases were supplied blood by the arteria colica media and 27 cases by the arteria colica sinistra. Results: There was no operative death in the whole group. The postoperative complications consisted of leakage of cervical anastomosis(2 cases), cervical wound inflammation(3 cases), laryngeal recurrent nerve injury (1 cases), lung inflammation (3 cases). Conclusion: The authors conclude that colon was rich in blood and enough in length so that it can be grafted into neck and anastomosed with the esophagus and the result is satisfactory. Improved surgical technique can reduce the incidence of complications of ERC.

OBJECTIVETo study the necessity, feasibility, security of carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) for symptomatic carotid stenosis combined with kinking.
METHODSTwelve patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis and kinking demonstrated by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) received CAS from December 2003 to December 2009. There were 9 male and 3 female patients, age ranged from 59 to 77 years (mean 69.3 years). All the patients' clinical, imaging, intervention and follow up data were collected and analyzed.
RESULTSAll CAS procedures were successfully performed with 14 self-expandable stents placed. The mean degree of stenosis was reduced from 85.6% before stenting to 11.2% after stenting, the angle of kinking, according to Metz' category, were improved from less than 90° to more than 120° in each case. No perioperative procedure related stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurred. The clinical symptoms and signs of cerebral ischemia were improved or disappeared for all patients. During follow-up of these 12 patients for 6 to 72 months, one patient experienced ipsilateral carotid territory TIA and another patient experienced contralateral carotid territory TIA. DSA follow up of 5 patients demonstrated 1 case with in-stent restenosis and arterial kinking remote to the stent of internal carotid artery. CAS were performed again and CT angiography follow up demonstrated no kinking and restenosis 2 years after the intervention. Duplex scan of the other 7 patients demonstrated neither kinking nor restenosis.
CONCLUSIONSCAS seems to be feasible and safe for the patients with symptomatic kinking and stenosis, and maybe helpful to lower the risk of cerebral ischemia, but further study is needed.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2005;21(2):133-136
AIMTo explore the effect of platelet-activating factor on long-term potentiation in the CA1 region of rat hippocampal slices.
METHODSWe recorded the excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) and investigated effect of long-term potentiation by PAF in rat hippocampus in vitro.
RESULTSLow doses (1 micromol/L ) of PAF could induce LTP, while higher doses (10-50 micromol/L) of PAF could inhibit induction of LTP. But it couldn't inhibit the LTP induced by subsequent high frequency stimulation and the EPSP of basal. GB of PAF receptor antagonists could prevent the LTP induced by low doses of PAF, and could't inhibit the LTP induced by HFS.
CONCLUSIONHigher doses of PAF is an HIV-1-induced neurotoxin, it may contribute to the HAD pathogenesis by inhibition of LTP.

Modern drying technology was used to explore suitable drying process to provide scientific basis for improving drying processing methods of Scrophulariae Radix. Controlled temperature and humidity drying, vacuum drying apparatus, microwave vacuum drying apparatus, short infrared drying device were used to gain samples for analyzing. The character appearance, concentration of main components and power consumption indicators were chosen for preliminary judging. Six major components, including iridoids and phenylpropanoids were analyzed by UPLC-MS/MS method. The contents of polysaccharides were determined by UV-visible spectrophotometry. The character appearance with controlled temperature and humidity drying and short infrared drying meet the pharmacopoeia standard (Ch. p, edition 2015), while samples with vacuum and microwave vacuum drying apparatus didn't. Compared to fresh sample, concentrations of harpagide, harpagoside, aucubin and catalpol were lower in the dried samples. Angoroside-C showed no significant change before and after drying. Concentration of acteoside increased after drying. Samples with controlled temperature (70 degrees C) and humidity (15% - 10%) drying had high content and short drying time. The better drying process of Scrophulariae Radix was controlled temperature and humidity drying. The method will provide the reference for the drying technology standard of roots medicine.

Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2005;21(1):167-170
Selective markers used in yeast vector for gene manipulation were usually drug resistance or autotrophy. Unfortunately, drug resistance selective marker requires drug sensitive host and most industrial strains were not autotrophy. In this paper, flocculation gene (FLO1) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae ABXL-1D was amplified by PCR, sequenced and cloned to construct an expression vector. The new vector was easy to manipulate and suitable for broad host of yeasts without either autotrophy or drugs. beta-glucosidase gene from Bacillus polymyxa was cloned with the vector and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The specific activity of beta-glucosidase of the recombinant yeast cell-free extract was 3.91 u/mg protein. The residue glucose of the recombinant yeast was considerably reduced in mixed fermentation of glucose and cellobiose. It should be favorable for ethanol fermentation when utilize lignocellulosic biomass as raw material.

Objective To study the the causes, management and preventive measures for complications of holmium laser ureterolithotripsy. Methods Three hundred and seven cases of uteteral calculi from Jan. 2006 to Jan. 2010 were reported (203 men and 104 women, age ranged from 18-83 years, mean age 51.6 years). One hundred thirty-three patients had calculi in the lower ureter,94 in the middle part and 80in the upper ureter. Results The overall comminution rate was 89.9% (276/307 cases). sixteen cases (5.2%) were followed by ESWL due to the shift of the stones to the renal pelvis. The operation failed in 9 cases(2.9%), 3 cases(1%) had perforation, and recoveried after open operation. Deep infection was found in 3(1%)cases,which recoveried after anti-infective therapy. Conclusions Holmium laser ureterolithotripsy is an effective method for treating ureteral calculi, with advantage of high efficiacy, safety and minimal invasion. To master the operating induction, to raise operating technique and to take correct measure could reduce complications effectually.
