CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) have potent immunostimulatory effects and can enhance the anti-cancer activity of cancer treatments. CpG ODN directly induced the activation and maturation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells, stimulated the secretion of Th1-type cytokines, and enhanced the differentiation of B cells into antibody-secreting plasma cells. CpG oligodeoxynucleotides as vaccine adjuvants can enhance both the humoral and cellular responses to antigens in some clinical trails. CpG ODN was applied in several clinical trials as an adjuvant of tumor vaccine. CpG ODN alone had anti-tumor activity and had synergistic effects with other anti-tumor therapies including monoclonal antibodies, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, cytokines, etc. Compared with standard regimen, in the phase Ⅲ clinical trial CpG ODN did not prolong the median survival time and induced severe adverse reaction in the treatment of ⅢB-Ⅳ stage non-small cell lung cancer. But CpG ODN had definite anti-cancer activity in other clinical trials. The safety and efficacy of CpG ODN in anti-tumor therapy needs to be further verified in clinic.

Objective To investigate the correlation of pathology to immunology in animals with tuberculosis by molecular pathology. Methods BALB/c mice were randomly divided into two groups: tuberculosis model (A) and control mice (N). Immunohistochemistry technology was used to investigate the correlation between the expression of IFN-γ, IL-4 and iNOS and the type as well as magnitude of tissue injury. Results Two phases were observed during the 2nd week characterized by inflammatory infiltration in the alveolar-capillary interstitium and the tissues surrounding blood vessels. A predominance of TH1 cells was shown by a higher percentage of IFN-γ positive cells and a lower percentage of IL-4 positive cells in the inflammatory infiltrate identified by immunohistology. From the 4th week after infection to the end of experiment, we observed a chronic advanced phase characterized by pneumonia and local necrosis with a TH0 balance due to an equivalent proportion of IFN-γ and IL-4 positive cells in the lung lesions. The iNOS expression was increased in acute phase and decreased in chronic phase. Conclusion There is a closely correlation on the kinetics of TH1/TH2 cells and iNOS expression with the type and magnitude of tissue injury during the infection of tuberculosis.
8.The therapeutic effects of depressive neurosis by using combination of TCM with western medicine
Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2008;15(11):1819-1820
Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of combination of TCM with western medicine for depressive neurosis. Methods The therapeutic group included 30 cases, patients were treated by combination of TCM with western medicine. The control group included 30 eases, patients were treated only with western medicine.Four weeks was a course of treatment. Results The efficacy of the therapeutic group was 96.7% ,the efficacy of the control group was 66.7% ,there is a significant difference between the two groups(P <0.01).Conclusion The combination of TCM with western medicine for depressive neurosis is effective with short course of treatment.
