1.Anatomical variations of the stylopharyngeus and superior constrictors in relation to their function

The aims of this study were to clarify the topography and variations stylopharyngeus (STP) and superior constrictor (SC) muscles, and to examine what role they play in the pharyngeal movement. Forty-four specimens (22 right and 22 left sides) from embalmed Korean adult cadavers (13 males, 9 females; age range, 46–89 years; mean age, 69.2 years) were used in this study. The accessory bundle of STP and petropharyngeus was found in 18.2% (8/44) and 25.0% (11/44) of cases, respectively. A variation of the STP, in which it ran transversely and merged with the SC muscle, was found in 2.3% (1/44) of cases while a variation of the SC muscle, in which it ran longitudinally and merged with the contralateral constrictors, was found in 11.4% (5/44). The variant muscle bundles play their own role in pharyngeal movement according to their morphology. These results provide information that will help a comprehensive understanding of the effects of pharyngeal muscles on movement.
2.Polyphenols in peanut shells and their antioxidant activity: optimal extraction conditions and the evaluation of antiobesity effects

Purpose:
The extraction conditions for bioactive components from peanut shells, which is a byproduct of peanut processing, were optimized to enhance the total phenolic content (TPC, Y1 ), total flavonoid content (TFC, Y2 ), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity (RSA, Y3). In addition, this study evaluated the anti-obesity effect of peanut shell extract.
Methods:
Optimization of ultrasonic‐assisted extraction (UAE) was performed using a response surface methodology. The independent variables applied for extraction were time (X1 : 5.0–55.0), temperature (X2 : 26.0–94.0), and ethanol concentration (X3 : 0.0%–99.5%). Quadratic regression models were derived based on the results of 17 experimental sets, and an analysis of the variance was performed to verify its accuracy and precision of the regression equations.
Results:
When evaluating the effects of independent variables on responses using statistically-based optimization, the independent variable with the most significant effect on the TPC, TFC, and RSA was the ethanol concentration (p = 0.0008). The optimal extraction conditions to satisfy all three responses were 35.8 minutes, 82.7°C, and 96.0% ethanol. Under these conditions, the inhibitory activities of α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase by the extract were 86.4% and 78.5%, respectively.
Conclusion
In this study, UAE showed superior extraction efficiency compared to conventional hot-water extraction in the extraction of polyphenols and bioactive materials. In addition, α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase inhibitory effects were identified, suggesting that peanut shells can be used as effective antioxidants and anti-obesity agents in functional foods and medicines.
3.Development of Caring as a Human Science: 50 Years of History of the Korean Society of Nursing Science

Purpose:
This year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS). This study wasaimed to explore development of caring and describe the 50 years of history of KSNS within the sociocultural context of Korea regardingacademic footsteps, meanings, and implications for the future.
Methods:
This study used a historical research methodology using a literaturereview and bibliometric analysis. Relevant literature was reviewed and the published abstracts in the Journal of Korean Academy ofNursing (JKAN) were analyzed using VOSviewer.
Results:
Birth control and family planning in the 1970s was the main research topic. In the1980s, the development of nursing concepts, theories, and philosophies was the mission of KSNS to extend the disciplinary boundary. In the1990s, the progress of KSNS to become one of the woman-dominant healthcare professionals was the mission in the given period. Expandingthe frontiers of KSNS to the extent of global standards was the undertaking of the nursing scholars in the 2000s. Lastly, in the 2010s,the quality and quantity improvement of KSNS and JKAN is expected to make our future even prosperous. The map visualization of the 50years of research accumulation showed the comparable opposition of quantitative vs. qualitative research methodologies, equation modeling,and instrument development.
Conclusion
These clusters of research demonstrates the efforts to make nursing evidence by Koreannursing scholars for the last five decades. The growth in the slope of KSNS and outcomes of JKAN are to carry on to an unimaginable extentin the future.
4.Corchorus olitorius Ethanolic Extract has Anti-inflammatory and Wound Healing Effects in vitro

This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and wound healing effects of Corchorus olitorius cultivated in smart farms. In current study, component analysis, cell viability, anti-inflammatory activity and wound healing assay were conducted with 70% ethanol extracts of C. olitorius (ECS) grown in smart farms.Chlorogenic acid that is an indicator for C. olitorius was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and, as a result, ECS had 23.52 mg/g of chlorogenic acid. The expression of inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide (NO) and pro-inflammatory cytokines was measured using griess reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The results showed that NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 production levels were inhibited by ECS at a dose dependent manner in LPSstimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Additionally, the expression of mRNA was also suppressed by ECS at a dose dependent manner in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. To confirm the effect of wound healing of ECS, cell proliferation and migration were examined in fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Consequently, it was confirmed that ECS showed the wound healing effect by promoting cell migration in fibroblasts and keratinocytes. These results suggested that ECS can prevent chronic wound by regulating chronic inflammation with anti-inflammatory activities and can be a new candidate material for treatment of skin wound.
5.Anatomic Variation of the Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle and Positional Relationship between the Posterior Belly of Digastric and Stylohyoid Muscle.

The digastric muscle is located in the suprahyoid region which consists of anterior belly, intermediate tendon and posterior belly. This muscle is an important landmark when performing an operation of submental and upper neck region. Previous researches have reported about variations of the anterior and posterior belly of digastric muscle. However, there are few studies about the general morphology of the digastric muscle and the relationship with surrounding muscles. The purpose of this study was to analyze the morphology of the anterior belly of digastric muscle and confirm the topographic relationship between the digastric muscle and the stylohyoid muscle of Korean. Thirty-four cadavers (21 males, 13 females; mean age 65 years; range 24~89 years) were used in this study. The skin, subcutaneous tissues, superficial fascia and platysma were removed and a detailed dissection was performed, with extreme care being taken not to damage underlying the muscles of submental and upper neck region. After the dissections, all specimens were sketched and photographed. In 8 specimens, we observed the accessory bellies of the anterior belly of digastric muscle. We classified the accessory bellies into the crossover type (five specimens, 14.7%) that cross the mandibular raphe and unilateral type (three specimens, 8.82%). The findings resulting from observation of the anatomical relationship between the posterior belly of digastric and stylohyoid muscles, the posterior belly of digastric muscle perforated the stylohyoid muscle in 32 cases (65%) out of 49 sides. This case was subdivided into the belly of the stylohyoid muscle lean to the lateral (twenty-one specimens, 42.9%) or medial side (eleven specimens, 22.4%) of the posterior belly of digastric muscle. In 17 specimens (35%), the stylohyoid muscle existed on the medial side of the posterior belly of digastric muscle.

6.Urinary Albumin Excretion Reflects Cardiovascular Risk in Postmenopausal Women without Diabetes: The 2011 to 2013 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the current study was to determine whether there was an association between urinary albumin excretion and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk by estimating the Framingham Risk Score (FRS) in postmenopausal women without diabetes. METHODS: This study was based on data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which was conducted by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2011 to 2013. Data on 2,316 postmenopausal women from a total of 24,594 participants was included in the analysis. RESULTS: The mean FRS was significantly different in each of the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) subgroups, and it increased with UACR. The FRS was 12.69±0.12 in the optimal group, 14.30±0.19 in the intermediate normal group, 14.62±0.26 in the high normal group, and 15.86±0.36 in the microalbuminuria group. After fully adjusting for potential confounding factors, high normal levels and microalbuminuria were significantly associated with the highest tertile of FRS ([odds ratio (OR), 1.642; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.124 to 2.400] and [OR, 3.385; 95% CI, 2.088 to 5.488], respectively) compared with the optimal subgroup. High normal levels and microalbuminuria were also significantly associated with a ≥10% 10-year risk of CVD ([OR, 1.853; 95% CI, 1.122 to 3.060] and [OR, 2.831; 95% CI, 1.327 to 6.037], respectively) after adjusting for potential confounding covariates. CONCLUSION: Urinary albumin excretion reflects CVD risk in postmenopausal women without diabetes, and high normal levels and microalbuminuria were independently associated with a higher risk of CVD.

7.Multiple Ruptured Cerebral Aneurysms as a Presenting Feature of Pheochromocytoma in a Patient with Neurofibromatosis 1.

Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF-1) shows an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance with complete penetrance and variable expression. Vascular abnormalities are frequently associated with NF-1. Pheochromocytoma occurs in 0.1-5.7% of patients with NF-1. Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage in patients with NF-1-related pheochromocytoma is very rare. Herein, we report a case of subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by multiple ruptured cerebral aneurysms in a patient with concurrent NF-1 and pheochromocytoma. Coil embolization of the aneurysms and subsequent adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma were successfully performed, and the patient remained normotensive thereafter. This case demonstrates the importance of a careful search for a remediable cause of episodic hypertension in patients with NF-1, who are predisposed to cerebral hemorrhage from fluctuating blood pressure.

8.Relations of Whole Grain Consumption with Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling Factors among Korean Adults.

This study compared levels of whole grain consumption-related predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors according to socio-demographic variables, and examined how these factors are associated with whole grain consumption frequency among Korean adults. A survey questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of adult males and females aged 20~59 years (n=300). The questionnaire included questions on predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors in relation to whole grain consumption as well as a brief whole grain food frequency questionnaire. Female subjects showed a significantly higher level of negative beliefs on health.nutrition.taste.texture while showing a significantly lower level of social support compared to that of males. The age group of 40~59 years showed a significantly higher social support level than the age group of 20~39 years. Results from multivariate regression analyses showed that different combinations of predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling variables were significant in predicting whole grain consumption frequency according to sex and age. The study findings can be used for developing specific target-oriented nutrition intervention programs for promotion of whole grain intake among Korean adults.

9.MicroRNA-103a-3p controls proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human adipose tissue-derived stromal cells.

The elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the differentiation and proliferation of human adipose tissue-derived stromal cells (hADSCs) represents a critical step in the development of hADSCs-based cellular therapies. To examine the role of the microRNA-103a-3p (miR-103a-3p) in hADSCs functions, miR-103a-3p mimics were transfected into hADSCs in order to overexpress miR-103a-3p. Osteogenic differentiation was induced for 14 days in an osetogenic differentiation medium and assessed by using an Alizarin Red S stain. The regulation of the expression of CDK6 (cyclin-dependent kinase 6), a predicted target of miR-103a-3p, was determined by western blot, real-time PCR and luciferase reporter assays. Overexpression of miR-103a-3p inhibited the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of hADSCs. In addition, it downregulated protein and mRNA levels of predicted target of miR-103a-3p (CDK6 and DICER1). In contrast, inhibition of miR-103a-3p with 2'O methyl antisense RNA increased the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of hADSCs. The luciferase reporter activity of the construct containing the miR-103a-3p target site within the CDK6 and DICER1 3'-untranslated regions was lower in miR-103a-3p-transfected hADSCs than in control miRNA-transfected hADSCs. RNA interference-mediated downregulation of CDK6 and DICER1 in hADSCs inhibited their proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. The results of the current study indicate that miR-103a-3p regulates the osteogenic differentiation of hADSCs and proliferation of hADSCs by direct targeting of CDK6 and DICER1 partly. These findings further elucidate the molecular mechanisms governing the differentiation and proliferation of hADSCs.

10.A Suggestion to Develop a Nutrition Policy on Food and Nutrition Labeling and Education Systems for Fast Food and Carbonated Soft Drinks in Korea.

The objective of this study is to develop a nutrition policy on food and nutrition labeling and education systems for fast food and carbonated soft drinks in Korea by identifying the fast food and soft drink use and by examining nutrition policies and labeling in Korea and other countries. Fast food is defined as food dispensed quickly at a restaurant generally offering a limited menu of inexpensive items, which may be mostly not nutritious. It is a growing component of the Korean diet, especially on children and adolescent population. Low nutrient dense beverages such as carbonated drinks are also increasing in the children and adolescent's diet in Korea and concern has been raised that these beverages may replace more nutritious beverage and provide empty calories. According to 2001 Korean national health and nutrition survey, fast food and carbonated soft drinks were most popular among 13 - 19 years old adolescents. Thirty six and 72 percent of adolescents consumed hamburger and carbonated beverage equal to or more than once a week, respectively. In United States, all processed food including soft drinks should disclose full nutrition information by nutrition labeling requirement. Restaurant foods are not required to provide nutrition information currently, but legislation on mandatory nutrition labeling of fast foods with other restaurant foods has been proposed currently in US. The sales of foods of minimal nutritional value, such as soft drinks, in the nation's schools is regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture. Nutrition information about fast food in US has been provided by fast food companies, non-profit organizations, hospitals and government through internet, booklet and brochure, etc, but the information is available from only a few resources in Korea. This study suggests a nutrition policy on fast food and soft drink use which includes establishing mandatory nutrition labeling and developing nutrition education materials and programs by web-site, booklet and government and school programs in Korea.
