Objective To analyze the characteristics and significance of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) expression in the pathophysiological processes of tuberculous meningitis in mice. Methods Sixteen mice were intracerebroventricularly injected with H37RV suspension as the model group.Meanwhile, the other 16 mice were injected with 0.9% sodium chloride solution as the control group.Thirty days later, all mice were decapitated and the brain tissue were respectively used to for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tuberculosis) incubation, pathological changes observation,MMP-9 activity detection by zymography,blood-brain-barrier permeability and moisture content detection, and immunofluorescence stain of MMP-9,glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and integrin αM (OX-42).The t test was used to compare the differences between the two groups. Results Every experimental mouse was injected with (1.271±0.111) × 106 colony-forming units (cfu) M.tuberculosis.Thirty days later, the amount of M.tuberculosis in brain tissue homogenates was (4.900± 1.407) × 104 cfu/mL,and the hematoxylin and eosin staining showed dilatation of subarachnoid and ventricular and infiltration of a large number of inflammatory cells. The cumulative absorbance (A) of MMP-9 bands of brain tissue was 47 821 ± 19 932 in the model group and 10 082 ± 3 544 in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (t =3.728,P=0.010).The evans blue (EB) content of brain tissue was (11.8 ± 3.6) μg/g in model group and (4.7 ±3.4) μg/g in control group. The difference was statistically significant (t=2.887,P=0.028).The moisture of brain tissue was 0.849±0.035 in model group and 0.775±0.037 in control group. The difference was statistically significant (t=2.925,P=0.026).The immunofluorescence staining showed that the infected brain tissue expressed high degrees of MMP-9,GFAP and OX-42.And MMP-9 was overlapped with both GFAP and OX-42 obviously. Conclusions The activity of MMP-9 is significantly enhanced in brain tissue of mice suffering from tuberculous meningitis and participates in blood-brain barrier damage, tissue edema and inflammatory cells exudation.Microglia cells-astrocytes network is involved in the secretion of MMP-9.

Objective:
To investigate the prevalence of diabetes among individuals at high risk of diabetes in Baoshan District, Shanghai Municipality, so as to provide insights into community-based diabetes management.
Methods:
Permanent residents at ages of 35 years and older were sampled from Baoshan District using a multistage stratified cluster sampling method, and residents at a high risk of diabetes were screened using the Form for Risk Assessment of Diabetes among Community Residents in Shanghai Municipality. Participants' demographics, disease history and history of medication were collected using questionnaire surveys, and height, body weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, and blood pressure were measured. Diabetes was screened using fasting blood glucose and glucose tolerance test. The factors affecting the development of diabetes were identified among high-risk residents for diabetes using a multivariable logistic regression model.
Results:
A total of 3 107 residents at a high risk for diabetes were enrolled, including 1 165 men (37.50%) and 1 942 women (62.50%) with a mean age of (63.58±9.77) years. The prevalence of diabetes was 21.69% among the study subjects, and multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that men (OR=1.689, 95%CI: 1.357-2.104), age (40 years-, OR=4.833, 95%CI: 1.036-22.553; 50 years-, OR=2.627, 95%CI: 1.432-4.819; 60 years-, OR=1.551, 95%CI: 1.119-2.150; 70 years and older, OR=1.579, 95%CI: 1.232-2.025); high school/technical secondary school (OR=2.677, 95%CI: 1.636-4.380), overweight/obesity (OR=1.891, 95%CI: 1.447-2.472), hypertension (OR=1.306, 95%CI: 1.049-1.626), dyslipidemia (OR=1.428, 95%CI: 1.114-1.831), history of impaired glucose regulation (OR=15.161, 95%CI: 11.827-19.434) and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (OR=2.092, 95%CI: 1.619-2.704) caused an increased risk of diabetes among residents at a high risk diabetes.
Conclusions
The prevalence of diabetes was 21.69% among high-risk populations of diabetes in Baoshan District. Gender, age, educational level, overweight/obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, history of impaired glucose regulation and family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus are factors affecting the development of diabetes among high-risk populations.

Objective:To study the life characteristics and related risk factors of patients with depression in Shandong Province. Methods:Based on the 2015 mental epidemiological survey database in Shandong Province,a total of 832 patients with depression,807 high-risk individuals with depression, and 819 low-risk individuals were diagnosed according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,Fourth Edition(DSM-Ⅳ)and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-Ⅳ-TR Axis I Disorders,Research Version(SCID-I/P).In 2020,SCID-I/P was used for re diagnosis, and the General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12),Simple Quality of Life question-naire,Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),Global Pain Scale(GPS),Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA),Simplified Coping Style Question-naire(SCSQ)were used for evaluation.Compare changes in the quality of life of depression patients and construct a risk factor model. Results:Patients with depression had lower scores on the simple quality of life questionnaire at baseline and at retest after 5 years than those in the high-and low-risk groups, those in remission of depression had higher scores on the simple quality of life questionnaire at baseline and at retest after 5 years than those in non-re-mission,and those with new-onset disorder in the high-and low-risk groups had lower scores on the simple quality of life questionnaire at baseline and at retest after 5 years than those with no-onset disorder(Ps<0.001).Depres-sion diagnosis and PSQI scale scores at baseline negatively predicted at retest after 5 years(β=-0.06,-0.15),while coping style tendencies at baseline positively predicted(β=0.06).The simple quality of life questionnaire at baseline negatively predicted depression diagnosis at retest after 5 years,GHQ-12 scores at retest after 5 years, and PSQI scale scores at retest after 5 years(β=-0.11,-0.17,-0.09),while the simple quality of life question-naire at baseline positively predicted coping style tendencies at retest after 5 years(β=0.13).Depression diagnosis at retest after 5 years,GHQ-12 scores at retest after 5 years,PSQI scale scores at retest after 5 years, coping style tendencies at retest after 5 years,SSRS scale scores,CTQ scale scores,GPS scale scores, and the simple quality of life questionnaire at baseline all influenced the simple quality of life questionnaire at retest after 5 years through ei-ther direct or indirect pathways. Conclusion:It suggest that the quality of life is lower in patients with depression than in the general population.Depression diagnosis, sleep, mental health, pain, social support, childhood trauma and coping are direct and indirect risk factors affecting life.
