1.Ultrasonographic findings of ovarian cystadenoma

The ultrasonographic findings of 49 ovarian cystadenomas were analized. The results were as follows: 1. Themost common age group was 3rd decade and most patients(83%) belong to active reproductive period. 2. In 80% ofserous cystadenoma the size of the tumor was ranged in 6–10cm in diameter. The large tumors of 16–20 cm indiameter were mostly mucinous cystadenomas. 3. Purely cystic appearance was the most common finding(40%) of serouscystadenoma and thick linear septation with and without solid component was the most common finding (38%) ofmucious cystadenoma. 4. Thick linear septation with solid component was not found inserous cystadenoma. 5. Welldefined nodular projection was found in 3 cases of serous cystadenoma but not identified in mucinous cystadenoma.

We present a case of a primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma, which is a relatively rare tumor found exclusively in women. This tumor is difficult to correctly diagnose preoperatively. Although there is little published information regarding the CEA levels in the cystic fluid of cystic tumors arising in the retroperitoneum, a high CEA level in the cystic fluid is a useful diagnostic marker for a primary retroperitoneal mucinous tumor. The appropriate management of retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenomas is the total removal of the cyst. The retroperitoneal approach for retroperitoneal cystic tumors is useful, has a lower risk of traumatizing the bowel than the intra-abdominal approach, and does not require compression of the other organs. We report the successful resection of a retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma through the retroperitoneal approach.

Ovarian mucinous cystadenoma of borderline malignancy was consisted of intestinal mucinous cystadenomas of borderline malignancy and Mullerian mucinous papillary borderline tumors. Mullerian mucinous papillary tumors was lined by mucinous epithelium of endocervical type and characterized by papillae architecturally similar to those of serous borderline tumors. These tumors have clinical and pathologic differences from those of intestinal mucinous cystadenomas of borderline malignancy.We report a case of ovarian Mullerian mucinous papillary cystadenomas of borderline malignancy with review of literature.

6.Can EUS Help to Differentiate Macrocystic Serous Cystadenoma from Mucinous Cystadenoma of the Pancreas by Its Morphologic Characteristics?.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: A macrocystic variant of a serous cystadenoma (M-SCA) is usually indistinguishable from a mucinous cystadenoma (MCA) as a result of their morphologic similarity on conventional imaging studies. However, a MCA requires a resection due to its malignant potential. The aim of this study was to determine the EUS morphological characteristics of a M-SCA to determine if they could be used to help differentiate it from MCA. METHODS: The clinical and EUS morphologic characteristics were examined in 31 consecutive patients with M-SCA and MCA who underwent surgery. RESULTS: Resected specimens were available from 11 M-SCAs and 20 MCAs. Significant differences were observed with regard to the age and location within the pancreas. On EUS, most of the M-SCA contained microcysts (82%) compared with only 15% of MCA cases, and a lobulated configuration of the cyst was observed more frequently in the M-SCA cases than in the MCA (91% vs. 25%). The combination of microcysts and the lobulated configuration of the cysts had a 100% specificity and positive predictive value for differentiating M-SCA from MCA. CONCLUSIONS: M-SCA tends to occur at a relatively younger age than MCA, and is located mainly in the head of the pancreas. Although there is considerable morphological similarity between M-SCA and MCA on the conventional imaging modalities, the morphological characteristics obtained from EUS including microcysts with a lobulated configuration may help to make a distinction between M-SCA and MCA.

The borderline tumor is not benign but has low malignant potential, which accounts for 10-15% of all ovarian tumors. The mucinous borderline tumors make up approximately 40% of all borderline tumors. About 5% of mature cystic teratomas of ovary include some with mucinous cystadenoma. The malignant transformation is occurred in about 1-3% of patients who have a mature cystic teratoma. There has been reported frequently about the malignant transformation of a mature cystic teratoma. After the first description of a patient with mucinous borderline tumor associated with a mature cystic teratoma in 1988, the borderline tumorous change of a mature cystic teratoma has been reported rarely. This report presents a patient with atypical proliferating mucinous tumor arising in a mature cystic teratoma.

8.Mucinous Cystadenoma of Renal Collecting Duct Origin: A Case Report.

We report a case of mucinous epithelial tumor (mucinous cystadenoma) in the renal pelvis. This type of tumor shows a non-specific cystic mass, and sometimes has wall calcification, it very rarely originates in multi-potential renal pelvic epithelium. We report the imaging findings of the tumor and review the previous literature.
