1.Preliminary results of study on hypocholesteremiant effects of 2 curcuma species discovered in North-Vietnam

Experiment is carried out on 4 groups of white mouse, in which each group including 5 lives. The results of experiment show the Curcuma harmandii Gagnep. and Curcuma trichosantha Gapnep, each daily dose equals to 20g/kg of mouse drinking continuously in a duration of 30 days inhibited considerably the raising of cholesterol in the blood of mouse by feeding them with high daily dose of cholesterol (20g/kg). The inhibition with Curcuma harmandii and Curcuma trichosantha is 42% and 74%, respectively. The intensive of this inhibition has a statistical meaning.

2.Contribution to the study on cholagogue effect of curcuma, zingiberaceae in North-Vietnam

The test are on three groups of rat, each group of six lives. The results showed out both curcuma harmandii and curcuma trichosantha, in dose of 10g/kg of rat, continuously use for three days, increase the bile excretion of 114 percent and 112 percent compare with non drug groups of 100 percent. Drug's effect starts 2-3 hours after using and reaches the maximum after 4 hours. The effect lasts 3-4 hours for curcuma trichosantha, even longer for curcuma harmandii. These effects have no influence to total Bilrubin and bile density.

3.A randomized, double-blind clinical trial on the efficacy and safety of turmeric 1% cream in the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis in adults

Background:
Turmeric demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in laboratory and clinical studies that suggest its
usefulness in psoriasis. This is the first randomized controlled trial comparing the efficacy and safety of turmeric 1% cream
to clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream in the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis.
Objectives:
To determine the efficacy and safety of turmeric 1% cream versus that of clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream
in the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis.
Methods:
This was a randomized, double-blind clinical trial to determine the proportion of patients with clinical remission.
Secondary outcomes namely mean PASI and pruritus scores per visit, time to remission and incidence of adverse effects
were also determined.
Results:
Fifty-nine patients were randomized into two groups: a turmeric (n=30) and a clobetasol (n=29) group. After four
weeks of treatment, there was no significant difference (p=0.36) in the proportions of patients with clinical remission in
the turmeric group (5/20, 25%) and the clobetasol group (8/23, 35%) (RR 1.15, 95% CI 0.78-1.70). The average time to
achieve clinical remission was 4 weeks in the turmeric group and 3.38 ± 1.06 weeks in the clobetasol group (p=0.07).
There was no significant difference in post-treatment mean PASI scores in turmeric (8.77 ± 5.71) and clobetasol (7.26 ±
6.04) groups (p=0.40). Post-treatment mean pruritus scores in turmeric (6.9 ± 2.83) and clobetasol (5.83 ± 3.87) groups
(p=0.30) were also statistically comparable. Two patients in the clobetasol group developed folliculitis.
Conclusion
Turmeric 1% cream demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety with clobetasol 0.05% cream in the
treatment of mild to moderate plaque-type psoriasis.

4.Efficacy and safety of turmeric 1% emollient cream in the control of chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus in Hemodialysis patients: A randomized double-blind clinical trial

Introduction:
Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) remains a frequent and distressing symptom in hemodialysis patients, fur-
ther compromising their quality of life. Turmeric, or Curcuma longa, is a naturally-occurring, widely available product that inhibits major inflamma-
tory mechanisms associated with CKD-aP.
Objectives:
This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of turmeric 1% emollient cream versus a bland emollient in the reduction of
chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus in hemodialysis patients.
Methods:
This study was a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial of the effect of turmeric 1% cream in the reduction of chronic kidney disease
associated pruritus in hemodialysis patients compared to a bland emollient. The main outcome measure was the proportion of subjects who
demonstrated response to treatment, as well as the incidence of adverse effects.
Results:
Intention to treat analysis on 106 patients, 53 assigned to turmeric 1% cream and 53 to bland emollient cream, was done. There was a sig-
nificant difference (P=0.03) in the proportion of patients who achieved treatment success between the turmeric group (66%) and bland emollient
group (45%). The mean decrease in pruritus score (VAS) of the group treated with turmeric was significantly greater than that of the bland emol-
lient group (P=0.018). No adverse effects were noted in both groups.
Conclusion
Among hemodialysis patients diagnosed with CKD-aP, topical application of turmeric 1% cream twice daily for four weeks was supe-
rior to that of bland emollient cream based on efficacy and safety outcome measures.

5.Preliminary phytochemical analysis, antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities of Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe extracts

Aims:
Plant extracts are a rich source of natural compounds that have some degree of antimicrobial efficacy and have less side effects compared to antibiotics. The aim of this research was to screen the phytochemical compounds and investigate the potency of Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe rhizome (CZR) extracts to inhibit the growth and biofilm formation of some pathogenic bacteria.
Methodology and results:
Antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects of CZR extracts in different solvents were examined by agar well diffusion and the broth microdilution method after phytochemical screening. The 95% ethanolic extract of CZR exhibited broad-spectrum antibacterial properties against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria with inhibition zones of 7.25 ± 0.58-12.00 ± 0.26 mm and MIC values ranging from 50-200 mg/mL. The extract also showed rapid bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities towards Enterococcus faecalis DMST 4736 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 by time-kill assays. Moreover, the 95% ethanolic extracts of CZR also acted as a potent anti-biofilm agent against E. faecalis DMST 4736, S. aureus ATCC 25923, S. epidermidis, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Proteus mirabilis DMST 8212 (54.62 ± 0.30-71.25 ± 0.20% inhibition of biofilm formation). The bioactive potency of compounds of the crude 95% ethanolic extract (tannins, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, terpenoids and alkaloids) play important roles in the observed antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities.
Conclusion, significance and impact of study
Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe extract had broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. The ethanolic CZR extract revealed bacteriostatic and bactericidal capacities, depending on time of exposure and concentration of the extracts. Thus, the present results indicate that C. zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe rhizomes are a potential natural alternative antibacterial agent for preventing bacterial diseases.

6.The easily volatile components from zhizome of Curcuma zedoria Rosc. cultivated in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces

The study on chemical components of volatile oil of Nga Truat root collected in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces found that in the mobile fluid of yellowish volatile oil of Nga Truat with special are matic of curcuma an essential productivity of 0,22% of fresh root was identified. In volatile oil samples, rich content of epicurzerenon, germacrone was determined. The other components of lower contents are betapinen 1,8- cineole, caphor, isoborneol, beta- elemene, zingiberen, benzofuran -6- ethyxyl 4,5,6,7- tetrahydro-3,6- dimethyl -5-isopropyl, T- muurolol. Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is a yellow pigment present in the spice turmeric (Curcuma longa) that has been associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, and antibacterial activities as indicated by over 6,000 citations. In addition, over one hundred clinical studies have been carried out with curcumin. One of the major problems with curcumin is perceived to be the bioavailability. How curcumin should be delivered in vivo, how bioavailable is it, how well curcumin is absorbed and how it is metabolized, is the focus of this review. Various formulations of curcumin that are currently available are also discussed.

To study the name of Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum and Film Turmeric by literature research methods provide the basis for correct application of Cuba in modern clinical application. Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum and Film Turmeric often called each other mutual generation and used as the same kind of medicine in the ancient prescriptions books. They were often recorded and stated as the same species of Curcumae Longae Rhizoma. Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum and Curcumae Longae Rhizoma also often called each other mutual generation in the ancient prescriptions books and used as the same kind of medicine. Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum was often recorded and stated under the Curcumae Longae Rhizoma articles in the ancient materia medica literatures. Ancient literatures on Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum records were almost the same, the modern literatures on the records of the sources of Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum were inconsistency. Inconsistency of Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum source records in modern literatures was related to the changes of the modern records on source records about Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, Root-tuber of Aromatic Curcumae Longae Rhizoma and Zedoray. The author thinks that Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum is the ancient Film Turmeric which referes to the same medicine as Curcumae Longae Rhizoma. The source of it just as the Curcumae Longae Rhizoma is not only one kind. Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum and Curcumae Longae Rhizoma have been recorded as two medicines at the present, and the source of them simply referes to the original plant Curcuma wenyujin. When using ancient prescriptions, we need to understand the changes that Curcumae Longae Rhizoma and Wenyujin Rhizoma Concisum are the same in ancient but different today in order to choose medicine correctly in the clinical.

9.Breeding of a new cultivar "Chuanjianghuang 1" of Sichuan Dao-di herbs Curcumae Longae Rhizoma and Curcumae Radix.

The systematic breeding method was adopted to breed a new good cultivar of Curcuma longa, named "Chuanjianghuang 1". From 2014 to 2015, two consecutive years of multi-point test were carried out in Shuangliu, Chongzhou and Wenjiang. The biological characters, phenology, agronomic characters, yield and quality indexes of "Chuanjianghuang 1" were comprehensively evaluated. The results showed that compared with local traditional species, the rhizome yield of the new cultivar "Chuanjianghuang 1" increased by 20.61%.The average content of volatile oil was higher than 24.17% and the average content of curcumin in root tuber was higher than 26.62%. The yield of root tuber increased by 54.59%.The average content of volatile oil is higher than 36.28% and the average content of curcuminoids is higher than 25.31%. Compared with "Huangsi Yujin 1", "Chuanjianghuang 1" increased the average yield of rhizome by 123.68%,the volatile oil increased by an average of 7.69%and the curcumin content increased by an average of 58.23%. The average content of volatile oil is higher than 52.82% and the average content of curcuminoids in root tuber was higher than 38.34%. The new variety "Chuanjianghuang 1" has better yield than the local traditional species, and the internal quality of rhizome and root tuber is better. Compared with "Huangsi Yujin 1", the yield of rhizome is significantly increased, and the internal quality of rhizome and root tuber is better, especially the content of curcumin in rhizome and curcuminoids in root tuber is significantly higher than that of "Huangsi Yujin 1". "Chuanjianghuang 1" is high yield, good quality, good stability and strong adaptability, which is suitable for cultivation and promotion in Chengdu Jinma River Basin, such as Shuangliu, Chongzhou, Wenjiang.

Curcuma wenyujin, as one of the eight Daodi-herbs in Zhejiang province, is widely used. It has the effects of eliminating stasis and dissipating mass, moving Qi and activating blood, and clearing heart and relieving depression. Modern studies have shown that it has anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, anti-thrombus and liver-protecting effects and mainly contains sesquiterpenoids, monoterpenoids, diterpenoids, and curcumins. This paper reviews the research progress in the chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of C. wenyujin in the last decade, discusses the modern clinical applications combined with the traditional efficacy, and predicts its quality markers(Q-markers) from plant consanguinity, medicinal properties, efficacy, processing and measurability of chemical components based on the theory of Q-markers, so as to provide a reference for the establishment of a scientific quality evaluation system and the research and application of this herb in the future.
